I grew up on the border of Quebec in a small town called Alfred. I spent most of my time in Ottawa (worked and school there) Some time in Montreal. Some time in Toronto. Since moving closer to TO, I spend the majority of my city time there, and the people are waayyyyy nicer in Toronto than they ever were in Ottawa and the same as in Quebec/Montreal. I always found Montreal the dirtiest of the 3 cities, too. That being said I definitely spent the least time there out of the three. So maybe I was just in the gross part of it.

Interesting. Didn't know some of you had such 'strong' feelings about French Canadians.

The stuff I hear about Toronto is just the usual crap like how the people are mean and the city sucks and blahblah. Honestly I think its mostly from biased people and I hear the same about every places. Until I go and see for myself, I will assume its bullchit. Seem like a cool city to me and I definitely will go one day.

About Montreal being dirty, its kind of true. Its an old city and the buildings are very old as opposed to say, Vancouver who arbor more newer infrastructures. Not sure if those claiming they wish they could vote to separate are serious but its only a minority of the province that are separatists. Their antics do give us a bad name but lets be honest, we hear some pretty retarded low iq type of chit coming from some low class in the rest of the country too…

The way we speak here also often come off as rude and pissed off to immigrants and travelers. Its really how we speak. Its hard to explain but if you listen to the news channel or some random interview featuring Quebecers it often how we sound. Actually here if someone speak too much with a France accent we like to poke fun at them because of how different they sound from us. The France accent is seen as feminine and '****gy' while the Quebec one is a bit more rough and 'lumberjack like'. Think of it as a British accent vs American accent.

Sad but true. On the bright side, the crime rate is really low and you would have to really provoke chit to get in troubles. City is quite safe.

Oh ya, its more large scale international crime. Not small time street bangers as much.

I find they are just stuck in their little 9-5, work for 35 years and retire routine. srs not a lot of people doing their own thing in this city. Everyone goes shopping at large chains. By laws throws noise tickets at anyone who farts. Etc.

Toronto has a big organized crime problem too but its seems more low key and not as well known as montreal. for some reason they dont cover orgainized crime in toronto as much as they do in montreal. For the most part i toronto is quiet or seems more low key because groups from around the world launder their money here.

Ottawa is a nice city but so true with it just being governemnt and the kinda boring atmosphere compared to more diverse places. when you go to ottawa they seem to be all the same, they dress the same, think the same and act the same. you can see it in the way people dress up and act.

Renting a condo in downtown TO starting in August. Anybody got any tips on searching and finding a good unit at a reasonable price. I am looking to stay around 10 min walking distance to the workplace, willing to pay ~1500.

The person that owns the factory there speaks pretty good english, so she was our translator the whole time. Without her, it would have been way different. Nobody over there speaks english.
