So yeah, umm, my friend Jessica, whose little kid I've posted pictures in here of, I guess her aunt was pregnant but the baby died literally the day before it was supposed to be born. Something about the umbilical cord choking it or something? And so the aunt asked Jessica to take pictures of said dead baby. I had given her my old D7100 and she bought a new 35mm 1.8g, so I figured she could go ahead and knock that out. But now she's asking if I could do it for her. If I could take the pictures of the dead baby. I still have my 105mm macro, and I'm pretty sure I could do a decent enough job, and no. There's no way I'm doing that. I don't think I would even do that for someone in my family, let alone perfect strangers. And what, I'd have to come home and do post processing on those *shudders*. I'm seriously not trying to make light of this, and it's unfortunate and sad that this happened, but damn, that's a bit ass favor to ask of someone. Would any of you guys do it? Am I a piece of sh*t for refusing? Because I've told her f*ck no, it ain't happening.

I wouldn't do it either, and truth be told I find it weird that they'd even ask you.

My 4 year old cousin died when I was a kid and the image of a child that small lying dead still stays with me. That was only 10 seconds of seeing her. I cant image having to shoot it and spend hours processing it.

From what she explained to me today, she said she mostly was just trying to capture the feeling of the room and not necessarily pictures of the corpse. Which had she explained it to me that way, I might've actually thought about doing it more. I guess that was the viewing part or something? The actual burial part is today, and she wanted me to do that as well, but I just don't think I'd feel comfortable shooting a funeral. Awful. Just awful.

yes it is
difficult proposition all around

how would one go about "capturing the feeling"?
it is a tragic event for the family no doubt, but it seems you are not really close to them
or maybe that is the reason they asked you?

She asked because she's immediate family and she didn't think she could handle it. She sent me a photo from the back of the camera, and yeah, it's exactly what you think it would be: a baby in a coffin and people cry and sh*t. I guess me being all alpha (j/k) she figured I could handle it. Maybe I could better than her, but I too am a wuss, and seeing people cry makes me cry. No way, man. The poor girl only had a 35mm. So she had to get CLOSE. Yikes. It's over now, so I'm hoping she's doing okay.

i did a bunch of research and went with the Nikon 7200 with Nikkor 35mm to start with. Im a hobbyist, and trying to relearn everything as its been a very long time.

I am actually deployed aboard a Navy vessel. So Im going to get the opportunity to take pics all over the world. I have a very large interest in night photography. There are some absolutely stunning opportunities out here in the middle of the ocean, where there is basically NO light pollution whatsoever.

Once I get everything in the mail Ill post some shots for C/C.

BTW this thread is full of some really talented people Great job guys, keep it coming!

Monoverse Dead center.

6400 ISO on the 610. The grain isn't terrible at all and adds a feels to it!

More 6400 ISO. Pushing this 610 to the max! Hells yeah.

Can't wait for my 610 to be back in my hands.

Is this awkward at all man? I mean I understand being professional and all that, but I think it would be strange to do boudoir photograph sessions, hell I would be uncomfortable just doing normal photos with people in them I guess. Im not an anti-social neck beard, but seems like it would be uncomfortable. Models I guess are used to it but are they ever clearly uncomfortable? Anyone ever give you a hard time for being young? I don't know what kind of person I would expect to take naked photos of me, but a young guy doesn't seem to fit the profile. There alot of women photographers in the boudoir field? There is a giant bear-man in this thread that does similar photos.

Not sure how well star photography would work on the water, to much movement? Maybe if you shore up somewhere, I suppose a large enough ship during dead water may be still enough, but I would be surprised if it would work well.

Nice Aurora light shots, I gotta make it North one of these days for some of that.

Pieceofdebris, that is a bizzare request, I think an old dead man would be do-able, a baby is a bit much. What if you just tell yourself it's sleeping? When I was a kid I knew the animals on the road were dead, but we just said they were napping.

Not at all really. Professional models do this as their full-time job so they're totally comfortable walking around naked, changing in front of you, taking directions, etc. I've never worked with non-professionals for boudoir shots so I'm not sure how it's like that. And myself I'm so focused on making sure my lighting ratio is right, my focus point is accurate, the light is good, my lightstand and cables aren't showing up in the background, etc so it's really just professional all around and all throughout the shoot we talk about stuff like Game of Thrones, Vegas hotels, restaurants, travel, etc. I've gotten "wow you're younger than I thought!" a few times, one Playboy model even asked if I modeled myself ayy lmao. There are a decent amount of women boudoir photographers for sure, lots who used to model themselves so they actually end up being really good at it.

She's been in just about every publication you can think of, I found her through Model Mayhem earlier this year when she posted she was coming to the city and last month she sent me a message letting me know she would be in town again so we set up another shoot.
