Nothing wrong with an AR for HD.

Not debating your knowledge, rather curious as no military background; does a light not give away your position in a dark house where you have the upper hand due to knowing the layout a lot better than an intruder?

It will give away your position but it will blind whoever you're pointing it at. These aren't like the lights on the back of a cell phone, it's very disorienting, if you get one pointed at you it will take a few seconds to adjust, you wouldn't be able to get off accurate shots quickly unless it's something you're used to. Knowing what you're shooting at is #1 though, and for that a light is necessary regardless. Don't want to shoot your brother/whoever for trying to surprise you or something.

Also, this is another popular tactic lots of people (FBI) use when clearing areas with a light. Hold the light away from your body so if someone shoots at the light they're not actually aiming at you.

A strobe light in your face when you've been in the dark for several minutes is going to **** up your ability to aim. I've tested mine by having my wife turn it on me in the dark and it's enough to make you close your eyes and look away.

Like blumpkin says you don't move to them, let them come to you and shoot them in a doorway where it's the narrowest and easiest to predict where they are

I don't even have a gun. I will never have a gun because the prevalence of firearm 'accidents' are relatively sky high. Firearms are incredibly dangerous to have in a family home.

You say that I need training. Please, do elaborate. Where does the logic for this 'need of training' stem from?

Training would reduce your chance of an accident, would help you control your fire, and be proficient with the gun you train with.

Family home as in kids? Get a fingerprint gun safe and teach your kids what a gun is, they should know you have one, and what it does.

Btw: "Over the last two decades, the number of unintentional
fatalities involving firearms (excluding homicide and
suicide) has dropped by 58 percent."

This, as gun ownership is increasing

If you're trained, then fair enough.

But someone with little to no training in a house trying to clear rooms with an AR sounds like a potential disaster to me.

lol

but clearing a house with a glock is so easy right?

brb part of rifle goes through the frame of the door and enemy grabs it and pulls you in, you still have a chance of pulling it back, grabbing to it and shooting at enemy

brb part of glock shows through the frame of the door and enemy grabs it, pulls it out of your hands and now youre weapon-less

shouldnt be clearing rooms if you dont know how to do it

Clearing a house with a glock shold be easy enough.

Any shots fired will be at close range.

Compressed on aim better for moving in tight quarters.

But now that I think about it, houses in the US are much more expansive than what we have here. So my thinking probably doesn't apply to most of your houses.

It's a rifle with a high capacity and high level of customization with ammo. Perfect for a "who knows" situation if an invader is armed.

but no, ol smokin joe thinks emptying one of your two chambers in a double barrel is enough to scare off any intruder at all and they definitely won't fight back.

nah m8, would rather put them down and out and know I can.

Not saying they're trained and are going to go all in, but a recent string around here was three coming in all armed with shotguns and handguns firing off when they come in. Don't want to be underarmed just because I think someone is going to run if they encounter resistance, especially if it's multiple people that know where I live.

That being said, if it's an average dindu, they would run if they heard someone was home. Gun is for the others.

An AR with proper ammo is far superior to any handgun.

Handguns are not fighting weapons. They are defensive weapons.

When Law Enforcement raids a home or Marines kick a door in over in Iraq no one is carrying a handgun into the fight. Except maybe the first guy on ballistic shield duty.

Handguns are not fight stoppers. Save for a CNS shot.

If I have time or a warning I'm grabbing my M4. If not it will be the 1911 or Glock or Beretta 92. Whichever is with me or closest to me.

I was nearly home invaded by three men many years ago. I was able to prevail. My 1911 saved my life.

It's something that can and does happen. It was completely random. In the middle of the day and in broad daylight in a very nice neighborhood.

In Florida we are in very good legal standing for using lethal force in our homes or any domicile we occupy legally.

Criminals are scum and usually too high or too stupid to back off and leave.

Those of you that think they will run away are in for a very serious wake up call.

Racking a shotgun or chambering a pistol may sound like a good idea. Except you may not have two hands free. I didn't. I was already in a struggle. He was already on me and it happens very fast. You're already behind the curve at that point. Action beats reaction every time.

Plus if they are truly bad they will hear you rack your shotgun. Now they know where you are...
If I were a bad guy and I were armed and I heard a shotgun rack behind a wall... I'm going to put some rounds through that wall. Just an idea to think about.

If they have the balls to come into your home while you're there then they are not going to run off easily.

If all they wanted was our nice **** they would empty the house while we were gone at work. Think about that.

Anyone coming into your home while it's occupied wants more than your PlayStation 4.

Stay safe.
"Johan tells me that your luggage, is the luggage of the poor."

"The will to survive is not as important as the will to prevail... the answer to criminal aggression is retaliation." - Col. Jeff Cooper USMC Ret.

he did. first it was fire a warning shot in the air, then it was just shoot through the door. needless to say, doing this is not self defense, and would constitute felony assault and attempted murder.

on an unrelated note doe, heres some pics of sub guns cause merica

That being said, if it's an average dindu, they would run if they heard someone was home. Gun is for the others.
The vibrant youth that hit my elderly neighbor didn't run from his shotgun, they shot him in the chest in front of his wife.

Not sure if he froze, missed them or fumbled his gun, the full story never came out but it ended badly for him.

When there was just one guy robbing an old lady he was chased off because her nephew was in the back room and came out firing. I'd not bargain on multiple cracked out gentle giants just running at the sound of a shotgun racking..
