I went through something similar. Coming from someone that quit, or at least reduced my intake to more normal levels (a beer every now and then or so), do notttttttttttttttttttttt attempt to go cold turkey. I tried it not doing any type of research and the first day, I was cool. Second day, started getting those stomach pains lightly...by that night the violent cramps and uncontrollable vomiting came. Blood pressure shot sky high and I had to go to the ER. Also ended up with torn lining in my intestine and had to spend a few days in the hospital.
Easiest way, just see a doctor. They gave me this little withdrawal pill that got rid of the symptoms within about 10 minutes. After that experience i'm scared to even drink more than a beer or two a week. Those withdrawal pains were HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. I tried to ride it out on my own but there was no way in hell. Also, go talk to a counselor. You're basically doing the same thing that I was doing by trying to mask your issues via alcohol. I can tell you firsthand, it doesn't work for long.

I remember walking into the LCBO a few weeks back and it was packed. I just stood there shook my head, and thought to myself "Damn, we're all just medicating.".

Hang in there.
I've been through pretty much the same thing, always vodka everyday all day. My reality check was when my esophogous tore and I couldn't eat or drink anything for a couple of weeks(my vodka), ****ting blood(black tarry stool) got bloodwork and naturally my liver enzymes were through the roof, BP was skyrocketing to near death levels, etc..
But what did I do about a month later? Start drinking again. Started as a night out... then that turns into drinking the next day just to ease the anxiety and shakes then that turns into another fuking month down the drain.
So far I'm a couple weeks in but still struggle everyday. One thing that does keep me from drinking so much is the feeling of being sober a few days and hitting the gym all carbed up and feeling like superman, and my relationships. I know how I am when I'm in that state. I'll go out 7 nights a week and still show up to work on time everyday, with my mental performance at about 40% of course, killing brain cells daily. Sick addiction man.
The amount was typically a handle in 2-3 days depending on if I was really binging or not.

on a side, note I occasionally partake in Alchohol ,but about once a week i do engage in Ms. MJ. ANd it blows me away why 1 is legal and the other is NOT. Alchohol's addictiion and side effects FARRRR out weight the other substance.
Alcohol is responsible for a ridiculous % of fatal car wrecks in America. Something's got to change or penalties become even harsher. It's just too easy and too socially acceptable to GeT WASTED YEEHHHH BROOOOOOOOOOO and i drove home, it was crazy........

Dont forget to take extra B vitamins since alcohol kills those levels.

Hey brother i know what you are going through. I decided a few months back to dial down my abuse of alcohol. I wouldn't suggest cold turkey for a number of reasons...you wouldn't just go to the gym and try to bench 300lbs having never lifted before. You have to ease into it to avoid withdrawl symptoms, while at the same time getting help. Find a church with an addictions program, and try AA meetings. Don't listen to anyone or the voice inside of you telling yourself that you can handle this yourself...a support system makes it so much more effective. You can get through it man, but as another poster mentioned, you need to find the root of your depression leading you to drink.
