Go to detox, don't just quit. Alcohol and benzo withdrawals can kill you.

If you can't get into a detox, go to the hospital they can detox u there

That's the first step

Make sure you go through detox correctly and with support. My mother just went through her own detox last month and ended up hanging herself in her closet.

Been there done that... I have gone through many cycles of withdrawals from alcohol. Had seizures, audible hallucinations... Was sober for about 9 months last year, before I thought I could try to have a couple drinks and be done. That turned in to a slow relapse, so make sure you don't make that mistake. As far as your depression/anxiety in the morning, that is alcohol withdrawal. I had the same thing, and I would have to have alcohol or I would be freaking out all day with constant anxiety. If you are strong enough to do an alcohol taper on your own, google hams network taper. This works well, but you have to make sure you only drink to get rid of the shakes/sweats/anxiety. You need to make sure you don't drink more then necessary, otherwise you will get drunk and ruin the taper. Tapering alcohol sucked for me, but hopefully you will be ok after 3-4 days. Otherwise, you could go to the doctor and get prescribed a benzo for withdrawal. They will give you ****** or something similar. This helps way better then tapering with booze, but it's up to you if you want to go to the doctor... As far as recovery goes, do a 12 step or another therapy group. I personally do SMART Recovery since I am not a fan of the AA groups and the religion angle they push. SMART Recovery is more psychologically based, and helps you get sober on your own using techniques therapists teach. Been sober for a couple months now and it is way better... The first steps to get sober suck, but it is definitely worth it. Trust me. Good luck man. You already made the first step and realize you need to stop. That is the most important thing.

damn bro, hard to hear some of this. But yes a slow tapering off is probably your best short term fix, but you also have to think Long term, like many have mentioned go get professional help .

on a side, note I occasionally partake in Alchohol ,but about once a week i do engage in Ms. MJ. ANd it blows me away why 1 is legal and the other is NOT. Alchohol's addictiion and side effects FARRRR out weight the other substance.

Alcohol is responsible for a ridiculous % of fatal car wrecks in America. Something's got to change or penalties become even harsher. It's just too easy and too socially acceptable to GeT WASTED YEEHHHH BROOOOOOOOOOO and i drove home, it was crazy........

Also, I forgot to mention you will want to have a good diet and try to eat a bunch of veggies and fruits over the next few. Take a good multi as well. B vitamins are especially important, mainly B1 since alcohol depletes this from your brain. You might get nauseous from not having alcohol so just try to eat what you can. Keep us updated on your progress.

Feels bro, repped.(on spread, i will get you) You're going to make it.

I had a couple shots of vodka at work a few days last week. I just had a bad week over all. It sucks, that feeling, during the day, so I get it. But when I do drink I never want to workout or anything. I use that as motivation to pull me out of the endless cycle. I care more about my goals physically etc than getting a buzz. So I usually force myself 1 day without anything but water and I wake up the next day feeling good and back on top of it.

I totally understand the cycle thing though.

I am old so my advice comes with a bit more experience. Alcoholism runs rampant in my family and has destroyed many lives including my sister. She finally gave in and went to AA and has been sober for three years and is living a great life now.

I always thought that AA was for losers who were weak minded and I looked down on them for needing a crutch like the 12 BS steps, but I went to a meeting with her and was floored at the stories that I heard there of true strength in "giving up" and handing the reins to AA. I left there with a whole new understanding of addiction. I don't look at these people as weak minded fools like I once did.

Taper off with a detox and then start taking an amino acid complex that has both glutamine and taurine in it, which are precursors for GABA. Do this and most of your anxiety will start to let up, and you'll rarely have the urge to drink, 100% srs.

Man, I read this thread and i'm surprised at how many of us are in the same boat. I drink daily (about 5-6 shots), but never at work...I don't think I'll ever progress to that point, but fuk, a few more years go by, and who knows?

I've been trying to stop, but it's clear I can't. I can go a day without, but the next day I'm back in the liquor store.

I was talking to one of my neighbors whom I never spoken to in 4 years of living in this neighborhood, and he told me he had been sober for 27 years. Got too many DUI's and almost killed someone, and apart of his plea deal had to get sober or face jail time. I was thinking I should probably seek him out and talk to him a bit more.

I sincerely wish you all the luck and strength in the world to combat this. This is what the misc is about...not FA chit, but the real chit that effects us, and our quality of life.

Real life + 1 . I'm married w/o kids, and i've been working 65+ hour weeks the last 2 month or so. I Can't even imaging adding the additional pressure of raising a responsible family + all the expenses that come with it. Life slowly beats you down when you put in that much time and are trying to eat right/ work out just to maintain ( especially over 30 )

I can see why a guy who works 60 hour weeks with 2 or 3 kids and a naggy wife starts drinking . holy chit.

Stay strong brother, you got hundreds of bros here for you.

Anxiety/depression is no joke, it is what led me to addiction as well but you can overcome this by being strong and getting the proper support around you.
Millions of people deal with this every year and most of them would not be as strong as you keep being healthy and hitting the gym, stay busy try not to be idle that is when the mind will begin to think about your addiction.

PM me any time.

I'm married w/o kids too brah, and I too couldn't imagine raising a family. Walking into the house everyday with this beaten down look (both of us), the only thing that can kill the dry mood of the day is a couple of drinks. Then things normalize a bit, but yeah...I don't even want to think about balancing all that plus sleepless nights, diapers, soccer practice, homework, kids growing out of chit on a weekly basis, etc...I'd lose my mind and a drinking problem would be the least of my worries.

I Think it happens to a lot of dirty 30's...Life really hits you in the fuking face, and life's helmet is [insert vice here].

I remember walking into the LCBO a few weeks back and it was packed. I just stood there shook my head, and thought to myself "Damn, we're all just medicating.".

you stay safe out here too brah

Wishing everyone ITT the best in overcoming their vices. I too have found myself drinking more and more frequently, occasionally too much during the week to the point of being hungover at work. I have a very addictive/repetitive personality, if I don't watch out anything I do regularly becomes a daily habit. Good for exercise, eating well, etc. Not so good for drinking and drug use. I can go weeks without drinking, then every day for a week. I'll be subbing this thread and following it for advice/to help out others when I can.

I quit cold turkey last month. I only drank ONCE in September, haven't drank at all this whole month either. I used Kratom to help with withdrawals, which consisted of panic attacks and anxiety more than any other symptom. I had been drinking pretty much every day for well over a year, maybe over two years. You'll be fine.

Once you've quit it's hard socially for a while but once you've done every social situation w/o a drink you will actually love it. I love being sober after 4 years now. I don't even want a drink I swear

I seeked help in august this year, told my mom and sister that I have had depression for a long time, my mom helped me seek professional help and i started medication. my school also adjusted, in order for me to continue

there is no shame seeking help brah, dont let pride og "being tough" stop you, things will get better, but you gotta fight

The bottom sentence is especially true. I only get "depressed" thoughts when I am in the rut. When I am out and sober, for even only 2 days, my mood improves and I feel perfect. More witty and happy. Sharp. But it is also so damn easy to stay in the hole and dig deeper rather than dig out. Again bro, good luck.

I'm exactly the same way brah. It's easy for me to not drink, or, if I do on a rare occasion happen to go out during the week, have a couple drinks and call it a night. Once the weekend comes along it's like my conscience flies out the window and the party animal in me comes out.
