Updating you brah.

I am mid way through the program, I brought the whole package for $29.

Requires approx 3 - 5 hours per module (depending on how fast you type).

It's well structured.

Hopefully this will help me along the journey, but only hindsight can tell me if this is worthwhile for psychological change. (For example: I read a book called growth mindset by Carol Dweck which profoundly changed my outlook regarding personal development, but I had no idea it had such an influence until years later. And I have done some self help exercises that gave me a 'psychological high' that I thought would lead to change, but had no long term effect.)

My one and only NYR this year, is to practice adopting a more positive attitude. Nowhere near as easy as it sounds, I think it'll be hard work.

Only a few days in and I do not think I can maintain this "positive attitude". I don't seem capable of even pretending, it's exhausting and seemingly pointless. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong, I don't know.

Like the poster right above you said, anything worth doing requires effort. Having mental fortitude and being able to laugh while others are drowning in self-pity is not pointless.

Coming back to being IN.

Been difficult to stay inanely positive since christmas since I've had this norovirus, recovered now but still can't eat enough to make it at the gym or drink coffee as my stomach feels the size of a grape.

But I'm starting a new job tomorrow, and I went out to a new town last night. While I felt the drive was awful and it was a pretty gross night, watching 25:2 men:women on a night out with miscisms on my mind, but I'm trying to think I put myself out there, had some good chats with at least a couple of interesting people.

And still made it to the gym to day and gave it my best, went to see my parents tonight and my mum had laid out a bunch of my old shirts and trousers I hadn't touched for ages for the new job.

OP is the real mvp.

Some books may help some people out:

Business/Productivity

12 Week WorkYear (set daily, weekly, quarterly targets)
Getting Things Done
E- Myth
10x Rule (my fav)

Also writing down goals daily…

"The people with the biggest problems have the smallest goals" GC

Listen to podcasts on way to work (2x speed is goat) get double the content. I reccomend knowledge for men, cardone zone, and Secrets to success podcasts.

The app Rewire you can have your goals notified on your phone 5 times a day

Great advice in this thread!

If you are depressed/upset, you are thinking about the past. if you are anxious you are worrying about the future

Also, surround yourself with the right people.

Your net worth is your network.. Find the people who can get you where you want to be

Success is just persistent consistent action daily.. it does not happen overnight. I started to time block (15m) intervals, it is difficult at first but amazing once you get in the habit of doing it

Get rid of unproductive habits… Is what you currently doing getting you closer to your goals? If not, then remove the negative activity for a positive one

80/ 20 Principle- You need to find what you are most productive and leverage your time appropriately to get where you want to be

Sorry if this is random, just a lot of thoughts on productivity/ goals

Hopefully someone finds this helpful!

Man I need to do something like this. I'm very pessimistic and always wondering why **** is seemingly always going wrong. Mostly just a problem with finances and not getting ahead. December 2016 was a ****ty month to end the year.

Need to believe good things will finally come around soon because I think some of it will, but many years from now …maybe. Always wondering what I could have done different to affect the present.

Hope 2017 will bring good things cause this sux.

Subbed to keep track and see if anything changes for the better.

this is the mindset of people with poor attitudes, hoping it will get better will put you in the victim mode and accomplish nothing.
What you need to do is take charge of your life, find a purpose. If you can't find one, find some things you're interested in and devote your time and energy to them. It's far better to work towards a specific goal/career/pursuit while at the same time networking, gaining skills, opening doors of opportunity, gaining a stronger self-image, and discover it might not be for you, than to do nothing and cry about why your life sucks and is unfulfilling.

Sorry for the rant and I don't mean to call you out. This advice may not even apply to you specifically but that "victimhood" mindset is running rampant these days, and is usually coupled with unmotivated people.

Two main focus points which OP forgot to mention or emphasize are Action and Gratitude.

Action:

The difference between a goal and a dream is Action. You can think positive thoughts 24/7 forever. But if you're not going to ACT, those thoughts mean nothing. Many people jumped onto the Law of Attraction band wagon and fall off, claiming its BS. Because they sit and meditate and think positive thoughts all day but fail to ACT!

Your positive thoughts also need to be combined with faith and belief. Have faith and believe that you will most definitely receive whatever your goal is. Your mind will do mental gymnastics and try to trick you back into a negative mindset, because you've been negatively programmed to think negatively most of your life. Ignore those negative thoughts and stay focused.

Gratitude:

This cannot be emphasized enough. Being eternally grateful for everything you have is of vital importance to a positive mindset. Most people will say "My life is fukked. What do i have to be grateful for?" Well that's exactly your problem. Your life is fukked because you're ungrateful. Even a man who is deaf, dumb, blind and a cripple has lots to be grateful for. Always remember…There are always people on this earth who are alot less fortunate than you. So you owe it to yourself to express sincere, intense gratitude everyday.

wow, this couldn't have come at a better time. repped OP. I just received a promotion to manage a team of 30. I was promoted back in September of 2016. The last 5 months have been insanely tough. I've had a very hard time staying positive. I'm having a tough time dealing with my stress levels and I've NEVER been like this. Prior to the promotion, I was an easy-going, chill guy.

Now, I'm constantly worrying if I'm doing a good job. If I'm failing at this. What will I do next? I can't even begin to tell you how hard it is to keep my thoughts in check. My fiance has been amazing with me and keeps telling me to stay positive. To be present in the moment. IF I'm so fixating on tomorrow or my next role, I'll never appreciate this process.

I've been reading some material on positive thoughts and how to calm the mind. This post hits home.

Another simple thing I've noticed is changing my mindset with my alarm. Many of us begin our day with the alarm clock triggering a sense of dread as we either a) have to go to school or b) have to go to work or c) just get out of bed. A way to change the start is to begin to appreciate the sound. When you hear it, force a smile. It may seem ridiculous at first, but now, I wake up and I almost chuckle at the idea and it helps.

I try positive thinking all the time. I usually wake up, internalize some positive affirmations, and generally feel pretty good about the day. This lasts for about an hour after I get to work. Then I want to kill myself again.

sounds like you may have a trigger….even subconsciously. May be helpful to analyze what that may be and then change the habit loop on it. Not sure what you do for a living, but, let's say you're at your desk, maybe you pin something that helps you stay positive and focused. Every so often you glance at it and just know that you're the master of your life.

I know what my trigger is: I loathe my job and pretty much my entire career. It's difficult to convince myself I am "The master of my life" when I feel like I'm being cucked on a daily basis. I pretty much have no idea what to do to stop these triggers.

Watch something motivational every morning, take some time to visualize what kind of life you want, and try to feel like you're already living it. It helps you stay on track and make decisions based on the larger goal.

Wall of text version:

My mom goes on and on about the secret and the law of attraction and all that chit, but I've always thought it was stupid. I used to worry a lot and tended to expect the worst when things happened. I was pretty unhappy most of the time and my luck seemed to be terrible. Whenever I paid off something, a new random bill came in the mail. I hated my job, had no idea what I was gonna do with my life, I was lonely, and was anxious all the time. So I set a new years resolution last year to commit to maintaining a positive mindset.

Journal entry from December 31st 2015:

"Why is everything going to ****? What have I done to cause this? I mean, it must me my fault right? We control our lives right? I lift, I hit my macros, I read, I go to work, I'm nice to people, I dont spend money for no reason, yet here I am doing nothing on new years eve broke as **** feeling like ****. I dont get it. I even meditate why the hell do I feel like this all the time? Mom says I'm too negative and I'm gonna be miserable my whole life with this mindset. But she buys into the secret bull****. How is visualizing good things happening gonna change anything??? Makes no sense. IDK a lot of people buy into that ****. Maybe there is something to it. **** it, I dont have anything to believe in, why not just buy into this ****. If anything, it'll probably make me feel better. Ok so whats wrong with my life?
-I'm lonely
-I'm broke
-I have no idea what Im doing with my life
-I want to start some sort of business but I have no fukn clue what to do.
-I need to get my own place
-I need to get school back on track.
-I got laid two times all year.
-I barely see my friends
-I never meet people
-I'm anxious all the time
-My room and car are a mess
-I'm late to everything

Ok so approaching this from the positive visualization way, what do I want?
-Great gf or fun fukbuddies. Prolly not a gf, idk if I want that.
-Pay off debt
-Some sort of direction in life
-My own business/ some independent source of income
-Start going out more
-Chill da **** out.
-Get to places on time

Aright **** it, heres to 2016, year of delusional positivity".

Today

-ZERO DEBT
-Run a business
-Transferred out of Community college!
-amazing girlfriend
-Great group of friends, great social life
-Very rarely nervous or worried.
-Much closer to my family.

What I did

-Every single morning I watched some sort of motivational or uplifting video
-Listened to a lot of podcasts
-Read 49 books directly related to mindset, business, or other topics that interest me
-Glanced at a note in my iphone with quotes or reminders a few times a day

-10 minute worry journal. If something was bothering me, I set a 10 minute timer and wrote out what the issue was, what I could do to fix it, what I cant change, and why it upset me. When the timer went off, I forced it out of my mind. Every single problem I've had this year has had a simple action to take or habit to form, or was not worth worrying about.

-reminders went off on my phone every few hours that said "stay the course".

-Every night before bed, I'd review my day, and re-write a description of my life as I want it to be in the present tense. Usually left me feeling grateful and fired up.

-Whenever something struck my attention, I followed it.

-Whenever I thought I should work on something, I committed to it. Stupid example, I cant draw or write legibly. So at least once a day I'd start doodling, trying to draw perfect shapes and write the alphabet out as well as I could in print and in cursive. I used to be basically fluent in spanish, but I lost some of it. At work I started helping spanish speaking customers and my phone is in spanish. I read spanish wikipedia pages when I look chit up, and I'm pretty close to fluent again.

Coincidences

Two different times this year I got an unexpected bill I couldnt afford at the time in the mail. Instead of stressing, I put it in my folder and said "It'll work out one way or another". BOTH TIMES I got an unexpected check in the mail. One was a class action lawsuit from an old job I quit two years ago. Apparently they broke labor laws that year. That check was $32 more than the unexpected bill. The other time I got reimbursed for a membership I was never able to use. I meant to cancel, I guess I didnt, got billed for two years, and sent an email saying "hey, I meant to cancel this like two years ago, didnt realize I was still being billed. I guess I should pay more attention to my finances. Anyway, I cancelled through the website but just wanted to make sure the cancellation went through. Thanks". ~6 months later I got a check in the mail for the full amount of my two years of membership, which came out to something like $100 more than a medical bill that I wasnt expecting.

I was driving in my city, ran into a friend who had just come back from college. She yelled out to me: "HEYYYY PARK SOMEWHERE IM HAVING A GRAD PARTY!!" I parked, said hi, walked in to a family function. I get in line for the taco stand right behind this HBB. Happened to know her sister, we clicked immediately and talked most of the day. She left, I didnt get her number or anything. Literally the next day I stopped by a mall that I never go to to get my friend a birthday present, and she was in the store. Got her number, and for the last 6 months she has been the perfect girlfriend, there is nothing I dont like about her.

-Found a need in a market and decided to try to fill it. Posted that i was looking for an artist, within 5 minutes got a response. Saw some of his artwork and loved it. Crazy coincidence, this fukn guys hobby is the same as mine and he has big connections in the industry. He showed a sample to his friend, a very well known guy in the industry. The guy pre-ordered 50 units. 50 units per month was my one year goal. I was aiming to hit that by November 2017, but January 2017 is already set with 53 pre-orders.

i could go on and on, I kinda already have.

I cant believe how this year has been for me. 2016 has been the greatest year of my life so far, and the only thing I changed was deciding to buy into the law of attraction. I dont think theres some mystical force that attracts what you think about, I think its a psychological thing that helps you make better decisions and live every moment with the big picture in mind. It seems like you can look at the life you visualize everyday and compare your current behavior with that as the final goal. Whenever you're faced with a decision, you can choose based on what will bring you closer to that life.

As requested: Book list. Read all of em, 49 were from this year.
