I didn't read the thread so it may have been said already.

But one possible answer is that literally nothing happened before the big bang. Time is something, so if nothing happened, there is no "before."

Sadly, most of you will never reach the mathematical level of competence necessary to even begin to understand the nature of the early universe. Most of you wouldn't even be able to pass a basic Stat Mech or E&M course. Just lol@ you plebs talking about God and acting like that explains physics. And regarding that Ilya Prigogine quote, you are taking it completely out of context. Because you have never taken statistical mechanics, you fail to understand that he is actually making an argument against spontaneous generation of life in a system in thermodynamic equilibrium. The Earth is definitely a far from equilibrium system. It is known now that systems like this can lead to the generation of self replicating structures, and it isn't a stretch to think that this was a precursor to abiogenesis.

Basically, the quote was taken completely out of context, and you have no idea what you are talking about. And to the other guy, no the LHC will not "screw the earth." However, you are right that some technology could be dangerous.
