Every case is different but there are good people out there that become depressed/suicidal and are never any risk to anyone but themselves and they may just need some time and/or help to become a good member of society once again. The people you describe were bad people, suicidal or not. Being a police officer you should know better than to group all people with mental issues as bad people.Fukk no. There absolutely should be no legal obligation to 'rescue' anyone. I don't know if you read the texts or not. She didn't negligently let it happen. She encouraged him/manipulated him to do so. She's crazy, but I don't believe in or support charging people for bull**** like this or for cyber-bullying. If he would have told her to fukk off then blocked her and she'd have went around that and continued to contact him and harass him maybe you've got a case. But this is just one crazy person telling another crazy person to kill them-self, and they follow through.
There are a lot of crazy/suicidal/depressed people in this world. I've been shot at a few times by people that didn't have the courage to just off themselves so they try to suicide by cop. As far as I'm concerned if a crazy person kills them-self that's a huge one up for society as a whole. Just one person that's less likely to go on a shooting spree in a public location, commit a murder suicide (family member them them-self) or start shooting at cops so they kill them. While we're on that note its not exactly uncommon for someone to kill their spouse, kids or parents before killing them-self. Doesn't even make the news most of the time.
I can understand the kids family wanting 'justice.' But if they'd have been a bit more involved in his life it likely wouldn't have ended like it did. They are just lucky their kid didn't get a gun and off them before himself or go on a shooting spree in a theater, school or shopping mall.

If you read this kids texts, he was concerned with accidentally hurting someone else. He also was concerned with how his death would hurt his family. It was pretty obvious he didn't want to hurt anyone and he wasn't even convinced he wanted to hurt himself. She literally pressured him into it and in a state of being suicidal, the push from a loved one can be the difference between suicide or getting help. I don't know anything about this kid other than what I read here but based off the texts, I think if he would of got help, he could of got past this. Teens go through rough times and can make mistakes but that doesn't mean they are all going to turn out to be terrible people and go on shooting sprees.
I can't touch on the charges because I am not familiar with the laws but this kid is dead directly because of this girls actions, not just lack of action but she literally pressured him to do it and obviously that was enough for him to follow through. He was looking for a reason not to do it and even procrastinating so without her pressure, it is very likely he could of got past this stage in his life. So I do feel she should be held responsible for her actions. The punishment, I'm not sure but it should be severe and keep her off the street because she sounds like she would be very likely to hurt others again.

Nah her danger is that she has no moral apathy. Basically just a soulless harpy.
If she was "tired of attention whoring" that may result in a "DO IT" with a blocked number. This kid was trying to talk himself out of it and she was there to talk him back into it.

I'd been avoiding this thread and I wish I had of kept true to it.
Literally felt sick halfway through those text messages...
Vile. Disgusting. Heinous. EVIL. Words can't do that POS whore justice.
The icing on the cake that really made my stomach in knots..."Did you delete the messages" followed with "You're scaring me, I love you" to try and cover her tracks.
God. That was SO brutal.
She should've been given life in a Russian prison.

Kind of ridiculous to sentence her to anything.
Sentencing her is a slippery slope tbh. Like the other dude said, should a movie director be sentenced for 'inspiring' someone to be violent? No.
This case is more direct than that, but she wasn't even physically around when it happened, so I mean .....

This feels more like that Dexter where the shrink would get the patients to commit suicide it might not perfectly fit "manslaughter", but it is "evil".

The texts are heinous, they don't move me off my position. If you let some heartless bitch talk in you into killing yourself, that's on you.

Suicide is the sincerest for of self criticism. It's sad as fuk when a young person takes their own life, but just lol if you blame someone else for it.

She took advantage of a poor innocent young man with a fragile mind is what happened.
He seemed to be very green on this and she knew it.
She gets what's coming to her. She may not have done anything physically but she was clearly involved in his death.

By your reasoning, organized crime bosses shouldn't go to prison for ordering hits or orchestrating criminal actions, because they don't literally do it themselves? Do you agree that with that?
People don't make decisions in a vacuum, other people can influence people's decisions significantly (this is well known in social psychology and advertising research for decades).

Personal responsibility is important, but she obviously took great advantage of the debilitating effects of depression, and did it to benefit herself. While this may set a dangerous legal precedent, I can’t say her sentence is undeserved. The root of the problem: the the limitations of a legal system where this outcome can be extrapolated to cases where justice would not be served by said precedent. Our justice system is, and will likely remain, imperfect. Thatslifeson.
