Cop was stupid as hell, and from what ive seen from countless videos doesnt know his authority and job. Unless he had REASONABLE suspicion, that he had committed, or was about to commit a crime, he didnt need to provide the cop with anything or even speak to him. And then he sure as **** cant detain him without said probable cause, and therefore cant charge him with interfering.

The common theme around here is if you aren't doing anything wrong just give the police officer your information so both of you guys can go on your merry way. Yeah sure maybe. But some of you idiots fail to realize you were born with inalienable rights as a citizen and all your forefathers before you have died and bleed to maintain these rights. Exercising your rights as a citizen is one of the most important aspects to demonstrate being in a free country.

Here's my problem with this situation:

The police officer sees a well dressed man with ear phones on and he appears to be picking up trash. He goes up to the gentleman and asked what he is doing. The ^suspect^ explains to him he works here ie picking up trash. The police officer even asks for an ID and the guy gives him a student ID. It's probably the moment the when the officer should've put all these articulable facts together and concluded the guy wasn't up to any criminal activity.

IMO doing his job would've been if he received a call about a guy standing around harassing people as they walk by the apartment complex and loitering.

The only thing the black guy did wrong was refusing to sit down when the officer was commanding a lawful order.

It was not even a lawful order IMO. How can it be a lawful order if there was never even reasonable suspicion of a crime in the first place. Also part of the problem is it seems 'lawful order' has never even been clearly defined, and in some states means anything a cop tell you to do. Which that right there is unbelievably ****ed, and shows we are no longer the land of the free.

It was a simple test to see if he was telling the truth. You live there? Say your number, but if you dont live there and just faking it thats the easiest way to tell someone is lying. And he didnt say an apartment.

So doesnt matter what happened from then on because he was suspicious for not answering that.

Its suspicious that if a liar was trying to lie, they wouldn't know the actual apartment, something that should have been easy to blurt out, youre willing to say you live right there, but not willing to give the apt number? which is exactly what someone lying would not know.

So it doesnt matter what he says after that because now its suspicious because he didnt say the apartment number.

then when asked for ID has no ID and tries to pass off a school ID, again, making it seem like something is shady and wrong, way past the point of "just letting it go" then he starts cussing which is also suspicious like trying to hide the lie with anger which is the classic defense when lying.

So I dont get the people who say it wasnt suspicious, it totally was.

Literally the basic clues of catching someone in a lie were all present.

it was largely due to the War on Drugs. in practice it gave police huge discretion on who to incarcerate or not, because good/personable cops know it's fukkin retarded to throw people in jail for having a little dope despite what the law says. but when you're policing high-crime areas you don't get many of these types, and there's huge pressure to inflict short-term punishment to give the impression you're doing something to stop crime.

This. You absolutely have inalienable rights in this country. People fail to realize that police officers (for good reason) have a lot more power than a citizen in this sort of situation. Your best course of action is to comply, and raise your concerns after the situation has calmed down. The problem comes when the left and the right get entrenched in their respective "police officers are evil tools of white privilege utilized to kill people of color" and "no police officer has ever done anything wrong ever." Police departments are made up of human beings and human beings are capable of terrible things. I wish there was a way to completely prevent that, and I think when instances of impropriety or even murder take place we have to address that. In the mean time, the best way to handle this type of situation is to comply then file grievances with the appropriate party.

It should have been. He just needed to establish his address by proving he lived there. The cop actually didn't need his date of birth.
