Maybe the cop really is a nazi. But if the choice is between me showing my drivers license or getting shot by a nazi I'm just going to hand over my license.
Most normal people aren't going to ever be in a situation where they are going to be threatened by a cop like this. If this guy took a bullet to his brain it would be because he acted like a complete moron escalating a simple douchebag cop encounter to a life or death situation.

Large parts of entire cities are nogo zones because thugs have way too many civil rights. Gang bangers and drug dealers should just be executed on the spot Judge Dred style.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but a couple points to be made here:
1) The cop obviously did not have ill-intent. He knew his body cam was on and that the transpirings in this confrontation would be available for evaluation after the fact.
2) I live in a newly "gentrified" urban area and a lot of people don't understand the fine line that has to be ridden by law enforcement to keep things safe for people in nice dwellings surrounded by dangerous individuals. There are lots of people who will pose as innocent do-gooders who are actually scouting areas for things to steal or vandalize, etc. It is the job of the police to do their best to discourage these types of people from thinking they can get away with said crimes. I absolutely hate the idea that you should be asked to verify ID or residence on the spot by police but this guy obviously fit the profile of someone who had been causing problems in the area and was trespassing if he was in fact not a resident.
3) I'm not a cop but those of you who are so eager to play monday morning quarterback in situations like these obviously have no idea what it's like to be in this position and to try to do things perfectly the first time around when confronting someone. When the person being spoken to by the officer refuses to comply with his request to sit down they are automatically violating a law and the officer simply cannot walk away at that point. It's against their training.

Cop was justified in stopping and questioning the guy. Commercial burglaries are a huge thing that the general public doesn't get to see. The crime occurs overnight and the important repairs are typically done before noon or before business opens. So again, before the general public gets to see what REALLY happened.
Now, the scoping occurs during daylight hours by normal regular people. This guy was out of place and was acting suspicious. We get a ton of those kinds of calls every..single..day.
In a nutshell: self-initiated work in order to prevent commercial burglaries is a thing.
I don't know the facts about this incident, nor do I care. Just shedding some light on why he started questioning the guy in the first place. So for people like wincel, stick to your office job. You don't know chit about how this world works.

People have their constitutional rights at the end of the day. You can tell a good cop from a bad cop on the way they respect the citizen's rights.
This cop was a moron, it's inexcusable with how he acted in this video.

Show me the law that says this. I'll wait. We don't live in fuking Nazi Germany. In fact, in most states not literally run by Hitler, you can just ask "Am I under arrest/being detained?" and if he says no, you can just fuking leave. You don't have to comply with any other orders he gives you.

Depending on state, all you have to do is give him a name and possibly show ID. Colorado has some fuked up laws where they can get a reason for you being there along with your address. They did not need his date of birth AFAIK, but IANAL.

Had to get a look at this cop and sure enough he has a face that I'd want to punch if I hadn't even seen this article.
John "Smyly"? and he has a shiet face grin like that one frat dude that got knocked out.

2) Are you using the "literally Hitler" line ironically? I thought nobody said that anymore in an actual serious way.
3) The second you cite the ACLU your credibility goes out the window. Why not post a link to the Southern Poverty Law Center while you're at it?
