If you use someone's property, then you should pay for it...BUT, if the economy collapses and no one has a job and therefore no money, guess what landlordcels? The rents also collapse.
Rentcels : if you lose your job, move back home. Renegotiate the rent. If they won't budge, or can't due to mortgage, well enjoy your void period, landlordcel.

This is a tough time for rentcels I'm sure. If the government deferred mortgages on my rentals then of course I would extend the courtesy to the tenants and let them defer rent as well. However, as long as I still have mortgages to pay, they still gonna be paying rent
This is what savings are for rentcels

lmaoooooooooooooooo I've got a feeling landlords are going to get killed(srs). If you have a tenant that lost their job, has no savings, has no hope they will probably snap and kill you.
One of my tenants called me the other day worried about his job. I said I expect full rent paid on the 1st but we'll see how this plays out and I offered to set up a payment plan if he is unable to pay. He was very grateful. I suggest all landlords do the same in this difficult time.

However Trump just halted all foreclosures/evictions on Saturday I believe so I'd imagine mortgage payments are not far off. My electric company already said a few weeks ago they won't be turning off electricity for missed payments.
I do believe this situation is exposing just how bad people are at saving though. Not even a month in to the real "panic" and people already freaking out

The elephant in the room is still that in a lot of markets, landlords won't have the choice of finding a different tenant who can reliably pay on time. Layoffs will likely be a rolling feature of our economy for a while as supply chain partners who held out for better days run out of cash, etc. There ain't enough essential workers to prop up the entire housing market.
A lot of landlords, when confronted with proof that someone has lost their job, might be better off offering something like a 3-month rent adjustment to cover their cashflow needs while saving themselves a time-wasting legal misadventure. Renegotiating a contract is a two-way affair.
Separately, the idea of raising rent in this environment, any fool can see that a lot of people are going to be consolidating households and that demand is going to get dunked in raw sewage.
Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

I'm only arguing against the people who seem to think that they're entitled to a free place to live for a year or more.
I got laid off once. I came home, went straight to the owner's office, and told him point-blank that I knew exactly what my savings looked like, had three leads for new jobs, and needed to give him 50% this month and would give him 50% until I was employed again, at which point I'd give him 150% until I was caught up.
Nice old churchy guy, that building was his life. He wasn't happy, but agreed, probably because I was a low-maintenance tenant, and on the third month, I gave him the first 150% check. He just looked at me kind of surprised and said "you did exactly what you said you'd do, and I appreciate that".
It's not that hard for reasonable adults to level with each other and figure out how to make things work. Small claims and housing courts are full of people dealing with spergs who couldn't and judges are usually scanning the situation to figure out who the time-wasting ***hole is as much as they are applying the law. They're going to get more annoyed with people causing trouble where there didn't need to be any and it's best to stay out of them. Tenants need to hear that, too.
Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

The issue is about people paying to live somewhere and whether or not landlords are "based" for expecting payments to continue.
As you can see from some serious posts in this thread, people who have lost their jobs often sit down with their landlords and work out a payment plan (like mine did with me as soon as they lost their jobs).
The rest in this thread is infantile trolling or "the uprising!" drivel of the kind you saw from incel losers after the Joker came out.

As a landlord myself, finding tenants is actually harder than you think. Fortunately, I do not rely on only properties for my living.
DO NOT PAY HIGHER RENTS PEOPLE. THESE LANDLORDS ARE ABSOLUTE SCUM WHO HAVE NOTHING GOING FOR THEM AND WILL PRICE GOUGE HARD HIT PEOPLE IN TIMES OF ECONOMIC DEPRESSION. **** THEM
I implore all rentcels to band together and share. This will rapidly force property down to maintain yield. This will also place stress on the banks to reduce the valuation and loan amount gap. You can win. And resist rental increases. All the properties will go to a minority of the population who will inherit multiple properties from their based parents. What will they do with their empty rotting assets then? They will sell them at far lower valuations than they, or their parents, could ever have imagined. Now is the time. Government stimulus will need nothing short of a miracle to keep the markets up.
I want my bros and young boys to have the right to a home later in life. Endure now and you will win. You have age on your sides. **** them Boomers and their ****ty kids who are such losers.

I think a significant number of people here do not understand the basic concept of 'paying' for 'service provided'. Next you'll be saying that if I pay for a cleaning lady to come clean my place 1x a week that she's a parasite on me? just...wtf? Yeesh.

My friend's landlord is trying to illegally evict her right now. Saying that he's got renovations planned to take place in her unit (certainly not grounds for eviction). My guess is his mortgage can be deferred from the Covid crisis, so he's trying to reno during this deferral period. Idiot

Times like these, people lock down their real assets, top priority is property. I’d bet no more than a 15% fall, and probably a lot less.

It will drop hugely. If people follow the formula. It is not hard to gain back your right to be a landlord.

There should be some middle ground with all of this.
If someone genuinely can not afford to pay rent because they lost their pay check due to the virus, then I feel that the govt needs to step in to help them. At the end of the day it isn’t their fault that this happened to them, and if the govt had been a bit more proactive in dealing with this (I.e. better screening) then it wouldn’t have.
I don’t think property owners should be getting fukt either though, which is usually the case in these situation.
I’m as fiscally conservative as the next guy, but we can’t have people who lost their jobs, by no fault of their own, out on the streets. It isn’t fair.

It will drop hugely. If people follow the formula. It is not hard to gain back your right to be a landlord.
