Gold is treated as a store of value by consensus, not for any intrinsic reason. It's has a history as a store of value, so it's treated as such.

BTC may not stand the test of time, but in the meantime institutions are pouring in to the asset.

Weird comment. Guess I am a geek then. But I also train, so I guess at least I am not a 'pencil neck' geek right?

You might ride past me on your bike. I'd give you a thumbs up. No hate here. I'd be driving with my top down and I promise the sound is heavenly. Why does it have to be a cock fight. Just enjoy life and let others enjoy.

Car is just a fun toy. My old 'ride' is below. No cockfight there. Just pure enjoyment and was a lot of fun having my own helo and landing in my backyard. Priorities are different now, and my toys are a little smaller. Been considering getting a Huracan, but I love my current ride way too much and the sound and rawness is something I would miss in the Huracan.

Dont hate so much man.... Life is good. And your bike probably is cool, but NOTHING sounds like a EVEN firing V-10. Carrera GT and Pre-LP Gallardo are rare breeds. Arguably the best sounding ever produced. Little 'cold start' vid with my son. Love to share in the car fun with my boy. Been the thing to do during COVID.

One last thing. Been hanging out at a bodybuilding site for the last 10 years. DYEL? srs.

I am not here to convince anyone that BTC has value. I have always saw the potential. But just briefly, Visa's market cap is $470 billion. Why? What value is Visa? The ability to transfer value is value in itself. But BTC is more than that. But that is just one SMALL part of. Add in being able to store value is another huge aspect. Free from third parties, free from counterfeits and secure and DECENTRALIZED.

Anyway, no point in arguing. Just dont put any money in it. It could all go to sh!t with the wrong set of regulations at any point. But the institutional money coming in really changes things. Greyscale has come in and secured 3% of the market and 25 billion stake in crypto. Resulting in further illiquidity. Pension funds and even states are looking to park cash in BTC. The dollar is falling and the further printing is devaluing cash holdings. Corps are looking for a place to store cash and turing to BTC. Mass Mutual insurance just moved 100 million into BTC. These are not 'pump and dump' investors.

Once 'whales' are getting turned into small fish and can no longer manipulate the market as was once done. The more large money that comes in from the institutional side, the more stable the platform will become. Immune to inflation, it will be a viable store of wealth alternative to gold. Even JP morgan has come around. It is estimated that if the 1-2% of personal holdings in gold start moving to BTC, we could see 150k. And that is only a small portion of the market.

So that is more of the big picture. If you dont 'get it', than I dont know what to tell you. Dont buy any.

Bitcoin is backed by....?
Energy + mining capital.

For me to double spend a block buried even 10 blocks deep (i.e. transactions from ~1.5 hours ago) would require me to mine at 51% of 150 TH/s hash rate for 1.5 hours.

This is the equivalent of me becoming superman / ssj4, lifting the three gorges dam to some mountain + river stream near my joint and having it farm for 1.5 hours to have a 0.5% chance of succeeding. The strong likelihood is that nodes will recognize my attack within 1 second, boot me off the network and I lose the money spent on mining capital + energy when I could be using it to farm block rewards instead....

To put it shortly, its not possible and Bitcoin's backing is the ultimate backing unmatched by anything that has existed and will exist in the forseeable future. A new paradigm will be needed to surpass this level of backing.

Andre Cronje published a paper on that back in like 2018

Trillion dollar bounty on BTC and nobody has been able to exploit it. Truly remarkable.

But yeah it's just sand bro. Owning BTC is like touching a bag of sand.

The ability to access cash and use it is a HUGE plus. The interest would also be no small amount, and LOVE that you get it monthly in BTC. Sucks that they only pay 6% on the first 2.5BTC but you at least get 3% above that. If btc still rises, that is well into 4 figures monthly just for parking it there.

Do you not store your btc in cold storage like on a ledger or a ******? Or do you store on coinbase custody? You should be good as long as you sent it to the right address which sounds like you know what youre doing. They also pay you daily so you can see accrued interest. Its pretty fun to watch it stack up. I would put 25% to 50%. Its safe for sure but im used to cold storage and like to have insurace on my end just incase. That one quite plan for the worst but expect the best. Also it sounds like you have alot of btc so im jelous of what youre return will be. IF you have it in you pm me a range I wont post it.

what happens (on the off chance since you're so confident) that BTC drops like 20-50% in a week/month? What happens to the coins you lent and the so-called interest you were supposed to earn?

if they're somehow leveraging for yield your BTC will literally go to 0.

It’s not risk free. But from the last interview I watched he said he hasn’t had anyone default. Also they have cash reserves if something happens. I’ve watched a few interviews and did a bit of research. They seem like a solid company. I mean they are launching the worlds first visa cc with 1.5% cash back in bitcoin. They also have tons accredited investors and manage over 1b. They have an office In news jersey and are regulated. You can give them a call tomorrow and ask your questions.

I´m tired of repeating this, but price action and scam has little correlation. Bitcoin could go to 1 million and it would still be garbage. See my sig. The fact that an opinion is widely held is no evidence that it´s not utterly absurd.

It’s not really about the backing. Even gold only really has value because everyone believes it does. Fiat currencies can be (and currently are being) massively devalued by printing more of them in epic proportions. How to protect yourself from that? Switch to an asset class than can’t be created from thin air. That’s exactly what people are doing. It’s why real estate and stocks are going up in the middle of economic devastation. Bitcoin falls under that category too, but it’s price is rising faster since there’s little significant institutional investment already in it.

That said, where the price goes from here is anyone’s guess. I thought it was going to crash at 30k

That’s like me spending a hundred hours digging a hole, then lining it with concrete or something indestructible, and claiming it’s valuable because I put time and effort into it. Not because it has any utility, it’s just a hole.

My brain fried reading that.

If I made a transaction for $10,000,000 in bitcoin 10 blocks deep, I am protected by the energy spent and the mining capital needed. So lets say someone wants to steal from my transaction by re-writing the block, they need that much energy and mining capital run for 10 blocks (1.5 hours) to overcome that. That is protection for value and ultimately the utility of the protocol.

I've put it at grade 4 level above, if you still do not understand, I do not have any more time to explain it to you.

I’ll explain it as I would to a 5 year old.

You’re describing something that is supposedly valuable because it took time and money to make it.

You can put time and money into something but THAT ISNT WHAT MAKES IT VALUABLE.

It’s valuable because people want it. They might want my hole in the ground or my grains of sand, as it happens they want a pointless algorithm.

I agree except for the last statement. There are a lot of objectively very valuable things in this world I would identify as pointless. It's always a subjective preference of enough people that makes something objectively valuable.
