2013 saw me in a position where I was sitting around for a few years with nothing to do. I peeled off a few thousand and took a risk.

Self taught in about everything, so after reading an article about Bitcoin, I decided to look into it more. Soon realized that ASIC were going to take over BTC mining, so I focused on ALTs.

First mined LTC and my rigs were yeilding about 1000/month (at the then current rate). Difficulty rose so quickly, I switched to Vertcoin, and Dodge. (and was trading everything to LTC.

Was figuring on LTC hitting big. Then it all went bust. 2017 I moved my ltc to BTC when LTC was about 180. Holding BTC since. Earlier this year I bought 4 more BTC on a hunch at 10-14k. Was scared to buy any more above 20.

My true dollar cost avg is sitting about 5k/ coin now even with the stuff I bought this year. So hard to have a true "downside".

The choice now, is have a new Huracan, a Performante, or a SVJ? (currently have a nice Gallardo)

In all truth, I dont know what to do....
That's quite a story, thanks for sharing, srs.

Here is a screen cap of my old control software.

You were always pushing to max out the cards and would overclock to the point where they were JUST stable. Often it was clicking up and down a few mhz at a time.

If they crashed, the hash rate would drop to 0 and it would send me a text. I used wifi plugs on all the power supplies for the rigs. All I had to do is cycle the plug and the computer would do a hard reset and reboot. I wrote in commands to automatically launch the mining software and it would spin up and buzz away.

In this pic one of mine went down. You can see the temps my cards were running. I had box fans blowing on everything. WHen the temp would rise, I would have to back off on the clocks a little.

Was a fun rabbit hole to go down. I have LONG forgotten all the stuff now. Was nervous as fuk bringing some coins over to new hardware wallet. ****** T. Only moved a few thousand worth to make sure it worked. Had a old laptop I left not hooked to internet with a full Core wallet on it. Just started to get anxiety from what this has morphed into.

Also, @jasticus mentioned BlockFi. Heard of it but never knew what it was. Interesting. Anyone have feedback on it. Makes me nervous, but actually looks like an attractive thing if safe....

Watch interviews wirh the guy whi started it. They have a fk ton of accredited investors s they use Gemini’s custody and recently working with fidelity and not just that they are launching worlds first cc with 1.5% cash back btc. I have some with them for fun. Oh and they manage over a billion in assets. And they workinf on getting there banking license

My retirement plan is to use these type of platforms to live off the interest.

Some guy on Twitter made 750k worth of interest last year. Insane.

Been looking at it. Interesting for sure. Also looks interesting that you can borrow cash against holding up to 50% LTV. I have to do some more researching into it for sure, but IF safe, looks like a good way to hold.

Thanks!

The fact that there’s using Gemini custody is in my opinion proves that they are very safe because Gemini is the best exchange and the best way to hold your big coin. I have some of their as well as insurance just in case because I hate that feeling of everything in one place just in case if I accidentally lose my private keys. What you can do with the loan as you can take money out on your bitcoin use that to buy assets take the cash flow from those new assets to use to pay off your loan and then now you have unlimited money. It’s like the ultimate way in the future to build wealth in my opinion

I heard about BTC end of 13. It was $180 range. At the time, there were not many ways to 'buy' it. Then in less than a month it hit 1000+.

So I spent money to mine since it was really about the only way to get it...besides hitting up some unknown guy on the internet and meeting on the corner.

Anwyay, I would have been better off spending my first 7-8k when btc dipped back to $250 and stayed there from 2014-2017. All my funds were in Alts on an old thumb drive. I pretty much wrote it off.

Then 2017 happened and things took off again. Hindsight is of course 20/20. Could I have done better? Sure. But I dont feel too bad about where I am at either. So much so, I put more real money in to increase my position this past fall picking up 4 more coins.

Confidence? Ignorance? I dont know. But no risk, no reward.

Bitcoin mining in when the core client first dropped was incredible. You could casually mine 100 a day with a moderately powerful CPU.

This sentence speaks volumes.

There's only geeks on this page talking about bitcoin and the mining of it.

By the way, I'd rev you on my bike when riding past your cagecel gallardo just to scare the chit out of you for your ostentatious display of wealth.

What's preventing any Bank (JP Morgan, Goldman, etc) tech company (Apple, Google, Amazon) or government (the FED) from just using "bitcoin technology" and making their own coins and potentially only accepting those as a form of payment?
That is what they are planning, it's called a CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency).
What's BTC safety net when legitimate competitors join the scene?
Like Raoul Pal says, BTC is a seen as a store of value like gold, a CBDC is currency.

A store of value only works if it's treated as such by consensus.

Gold is treated as a store of value by consensus, not for any intrinsic reason. It's has a history as a store of value, so it's treated as such.

BTC may not stand the test of time, but in the meantime institutions are pouring in to the asset.
