Imagine a situation where highly educated young people's $80,000/year salaries are so detached from house prices that they have to gamble on obscure internet coins and engage in absurd short squeeze derivatives plays on a dying business model in hopes of getting a 100x return on investment that would be the minimum necessary just to be able to put down a 20% downpayment on a simple 3 bedroom home that every one of their parents could afford easily that now costs millions.....**** this gay earth I'm about to go to the moon.

2. short squeeze - if anyone broke any rules its the hedge funds, they borrowed more shares than the available float (100+%) and now in deep ****.. for every 10$ increase in GME they are losing $1B.. they are ****ed but we know they will be getting another bailout by their pals (they had a $2.7b bailout on Monday)
In nov/dec the focus has been on how RC could turn the business around thus driving the price higher (organically).. but the potential gigantic short squeeze starts getting more attention and this drove the masses to buy the stocks (ignoring business fundamentals) and ridiculous call options.. fundamentally short squeezing is also a legal strategy and we have seen it happened in the past with VW and TSLA. .. im planning to sell half my stake at 300-400 and leave the rest to see where it goes

A lot of those rich today from GME are non materialized gains. Long run GME is going to the basement. Odds you time it perfectly (and not get caught in the massive and I mean massive sell off that eventually will happen) is next to nil. Better to sell early than sell late
But congrats on the historic run up

If so this was more of a “stick it to the man, while also making a bunch of money by driving the price up”?
2) wouldn’t this level of collusion be illegal?
Thanks

strong efficient market theory went out the window
When Trump faces a reality she can't stand, she becomes highly emotional and illogical. Every crisis is met by histrionics, tantrums and an inability to deal with facts. "Its a HOAX! Its a FRAUD!"
The emotion then becomes the reality. Those of us with girlfriends are familiar with this phenomena. Donald Trump menstruating 24/7: "Blood coming out of his eyes, blood coming out of his WHEREVER."

New consoles were coming out which always improves business by a huge margin.
What happened was some people like Michael Bury (Christian Bale from The Big Short) and some other smart folks saw GME as a deep value investment which was severely undervalued. Once this info along with the fact that GME was the most shorted company in the stock market became public knowledge because of a great investing redditor, this started to catch on. And then Ryan Cohen (made Chewy into a billion dollar company competing with Amazon) became a major shareholder and board member, everyone knew GME was pivoting and will be a major force to come in the coming years. There is huge potential in Gamestop and in light of these changes it was severely undervalued. Now the stock will be squeezed to infinity and beyond because shorters refuse to cover their shorts, they keep doubling down on it.

Share price has no impact on the actual solvency of a business, so literally cannot drive a company to bankruptcy
Revenue does not equal profit. Gamestop operates as a loss, with no clear sign of this changing. Ecommerce doesnt work well for games since the clear trend is towards digital downloads which are bought directly off the console.
Even Chewy still operates as a loss and could end badly.

I think though that because this story has gone viral, instead of simply pumping and dumping coordinated short squeezing hedge funds may become a trend.

If GameStop goes up another 17%, this hedge fund will instantly collapse. $13.1 billion gone. Poof.
Elon Musk just tweeted about the stock & they're now trading at $192 after-hours… if they open at this price, Melvin Capital will go bankrupt tomorrow morning. $13.1 billion in wealth transferred from Wall St to Reddit trolls.
What we're witnessing isn't a traditional pump & dump… it is an unorganized, yet collective effort of memelords & avg Americans to completely ignore all market fundamentals &, thru the power of social media, bankrupt hedge funds overnight, taking their funds. Legality unclear.
Reddit is also in the process of meme-ifying AMC stock to revive it from the dead… this is like the Occupy Wall Street movement but on their own turf & with real financial consequences. Incredible.
For any people/journalists trying to understand the $GME situation, read this top post from /r/WallStreetBets. It explains, very well, what is happening & why.

Wall Street hedge funds literally being raided for everything they have by Main Street memers… we're witnessing tens of billions of dollars go from Wall St to Main St daily now.

A reminder to everyone reading that while this is funny & very profitable for some, eventually things will come back down. Gamestop $GME is, objectively, worth nowhere near what they're trading at. Putting money in now is no different than gambling. This isn't investment advice.
/r/WallStreetBets has written an open letter to powers that be
@CNBC
- they threaten to continue to bankrupt every last hedge-fund since Wall Street has screwed over the average American & always gets bailed out. They actually make great points, read:

This list of hedge funds' most-shorted stocks is making its rounds on Reddit's /r/WallStreetBets… many posters are discussing tackling these one-by-one. They are already buying up $AMC which is up 60% after-hours.

Man I'm not going to lie, if I had money to use just to tell a hedge fund to go fuk itself, I'd join in. Here, I'm just happy to see WSB stick it to the man. That open letter was phenomenal.
