Pretty sure there’s some new growth on them so I’m hopeful, although the soil on that side of the yard Fukn sucks and the previous owners also clearly barely watered them when they were planted

Also they’re ready for pets

Congrats on the tomatoes. I didn't get any that nice the entire summer last year…just some tiny cherry tomatoes.

Thanks man!!! Still living in florida
I want to move to Tennessee soon, or Georgia, and I keep saying I will do this. If not for my kid who’ll be 18 soon I’d have done it by now.

Man I wish, Tennessee and Georgia are probably good growing zones too

I need to get a whole chitton of soil dropped off or something too, the builder did a pretty bad job of grading and spreading dirt over a chunk of the back yard

I didn't know you had a kid about the same age as mine.

Tennessee does look good for growing stuff.

Pic of my "garden"

Bloom where you're planted, right?

About half of my back lawn is dead and I have an ugly bare-ish weedy track across the front lawn where the sewer line had to be replaced. I was really hoping that would flatten out and fill in. Instead I have the biggest bumper crop of weeds in my yard ever. I think maybe it has to do with apply humus to both yards and raking it in because I was hoping that would be a good thing.

Nice. Good to see some action here. Everything has finally greened up around my area. Over the weekend I started getting some things popping up in my square foot garden. Little tiny lettuce and spinach plants, so nothing too exciting yet. We don't usually even start with the non-cold hardy stuff outside for another couple weeks. I have some water walls that I plan to try out this year to get things in a little earlier.

My back lawn sucks too. I’m just making the most out of my patio . I’m trying to learn this stuff before I take off to Georgia which are good for more county living areas and they’re known for their good manners too. I love my creature comforts and push button conveniences but I feel I need to prepare to live off the grid someday.

And yup I got another who’s a young adult now whom I don’t have a relationship with cause of the moms family.
This one though I am close too still. She comes over most weekends.

Just picked these yesterday

And I picked a bunch of lettuce but forgot to grab a pic but here’s what remains of it!!!

Got green peppers today though

That’s what I have heard! And in Georgia the folks I know from there including college students from there have very good manners.

I don’t feel like grabbing more soil and unloading carrying dumping spreading and all that but I know I gotta do it. Just don’t got it in me today even after all my coffee!

Cute! You know they can eat some of your weeds too, right? So long as you aren't spraying a bunch of chemicals. Dandelions and henbit…probably some others. Do check in case there are any weird animal specific issues.

Oh yeah! I grow wheat grass and dandelion greens for them too. I am feeding that to them this evening. They already got their peppers and cilantro this morning! I’ll grab a pic shot when I hand out the weeds.
Just not MY special weed I get for myself… I know they will eat weed but they don’t like nor do they understand why their senses are all F’d up and what not … lol

Dandelion growing expert right here, lol.

Thinks are not looking good for blackberries this year. The long cold winter killed most of last years new growth. Blackberry canes produce berries on the second year, so we won't get much. The plant/roots survived and we have new growth coming up so that's good at least. The grapes I planted last year haven't started growing yet but they're one of the last plants to start growing in the spring so I'm still cautiously optimistic. It would be a real bummer if I lost the grapes. Last winter was just brutal though, a lot of plants and trees in the area didn't make it.

I didn’t know this about blackberries but good to now. Is it the same for all berries? Strawberries for example.

I haven’t tried berries yet. I have the pots of course but It’s actually aloe Vera in those blackberry pots. I just ended up with the empty pots and put to use for aloe.

My blackberries are setting on fine, but the plants are a messy PITB right now which I need to corral somehow.

And grapes made it, though they are still in their pots.

I Definitely want to end up in Tennessee or Georgia. I’m curious about the weather in other states. Was in California few years ago and it’s hot but it wasn’t a humid hot like Florida’s . Tbph though I don’t agree with David Lee Roth at all but he’s entitled to his opinion:wishes lmao!!!!!!!!!

No, not all berries. Strawberries will produce fruit right away and raspberries also produce on current year's growth. Blackberries and grapes produce on previous year's growth. There are probably more, I'm not an expert, but those are the ones I know of.

Blackberries and grapes are looking good. My blackberries look brown and dead. There might be a few canes that make it, but I don't think it will be much. My one happy thought is last year I buried several new growth tips in order to induce root formation to increase the size of my blackberry patch. Three or four of the buried tips took hold so I have several new plants coming up. I'll grab a pic later. I think the grapes are maybe starting to bud out, crossing my fingers.

And I planted a few more squares of lettuce, spinach, and beets in my square foot garden. Wanted to plant carrots, but realized I'm out of seeds. My 4-year-old and 7-year-old really wanted to help so I showed them how to poke a little hole in the dirt, add a pinch of seeds, and cover it up.

Hnnnnnnng

I'm trying to figure out whether to post this stuff in the DIY thread or here, but will keep the plants here

Bought two autumn blaze maples, two purple spire crabapple, and three Swedish column aspens

Gonna alternate the crabapples and aspens along the fence to create a barrier, then the maples will flank what will eventually become a stone firepit

And everything but the maples has been planted

The soil back here on this side of the yard is so fukn bad, the builder legit put sod right on top of clay and there are so many random stones and concrete / wood pieces in it. But digging some good holes pretty damn wide and deep then adding a bunch of good soil, hopefully they do well and thinking they will.

Got a rental truck for work so I'm going to load that up with topsoil and spread it over this area – you can also see where we started cutting the sod for what will be the stone path out to the firepit

Destor I’m jelly, you have so much property to work with. I seriously would be in Heaven. I just got a patio poverty area

So I bought the rest of the soil needed for the 8x4 bed

That’s the cheapest they had in bulk.

Now I gotta haul it all from my garage to my back patio! Tomorrow evening I am putting in work for that project

I tried a recipe for the green tomatoes I picked yesterday. Best grease fried food since breaded deep fried calf brain (Srs). Funnel cakes not bad either though.

Are fried green tomatoes good? Never tried them, maybe this year. I've been slacking getting things planted. Winter lingered on and on and then things warmed up all at once. I did a bunch of trenching last weekend to run irrigation water lines around the perimeter of my yard. The field behind my house is watered with a pump from a canal south of my home. My parents own the field, and year ago my dad ran an 3" hdpe line over to his house that he can use for water when the pump is running. It's just less expensive than using well water, and I think the water chemistry is a bit better for plants. Last weekend the big project was connecting to the line feeding to my parents' house and running a line over to mine. I think it was around 700' of trenching. With that project out of the way, hopefully I can get a bunch done in the garden. I did see new buds on two of my grape plants, so they survived the winter. Hopefully I get something on the third soon. Also, my plum tree are blossoming:
