Sucks because sociology can be interesting and insightful for a lot of our weird human behaviors lol. Granted I took it 8+ years ago and my teacher was realistic and not a crazy.
I hate how psychology and sociology gets a bad wrap because of liberal professors. To progress as a species we need higher education and that includes all of these topics not just stem.
My old sociology professor had a different background as well though so he could come from a different perspective. Welder/corrections officer.

Yeah RN is a great career as they can go down to 2-3 days a week with kids. I couldn’t do that in tech. They make great money in my area, too.

Driven, I would say that describes the type of kids going this direction. Just becoming a RN is a MUCH easier path. A BSN, and a BSN from this school is for kids who intend on going on for masters and doctorate level studies.
Also IQ does not mean you cant enjoy doing things that those with lesser intelligence do for a living. I made my living in construction. Not many Phd's running around the job sites
. But in the US the medical field is quite rigorous especially as you go up in nursing levels. It is on par with doctors except you can break it up over time rather than 8 years of schooling all at once. It really is a great career for a woman who wants to have a family and be flexible. Srs though, as a 10 year RN in the ICU (with a BSN and two prior degrees) nobody cares about the school an RN gets their degree from. It's not med school. But grad schools do care about the grades and work experience after becoming an RN.
I am surrounded by young naive girls that racked up 100k in debt to become an RN. Not even a PA or NP, just RN/BSN. They'll be working for cheap for a while before they start making any real money. And as mentioned before, nursing school is not that difficult. It's not easy but I have other STEM degrees that were more complicated. Also the job itself sucks, period. But alot of these girls seem happy with it, srs. Beats the chit out of me why.

Just wanted to say 'thanks' for all the constructive comments.
All is good. Mamma (my wife) is doing OK. Was pretty tough at first.
Just ordered an Ipad so we can facetime with her. Been using a link to send it to our Andriod phones but figured talking to her more easily was worth buying an Ipad. We pretty much talk with her daily. Feels very good like maybe we did some things right.
To all the comments about college and 'why go', I agree with most. But she is going for a specific field of study. That being nursing. It is not easy picking careers as a woman, but nursing is probably the easiest career a woman can have and still put her family first. Women (at least the ones who want to raise their own kids) have no easy paths in this world.
And no, she has not be a part of any frat trains. Although we have heard the stories from her already about guys with certain frats they call 'spikers'. She lives with a suite of 6 girls and they have their heads on straight and watching out for each other.
My daughter was free to drink at home and to her the freedoms some get at college for the first time are not exciting for her. She has had those freedoms for sometime. She actually stayed in this past weekend, as she was feeling a little under and did not want to start off the week of classes being sick. Yes, we actually have apps on our phones where we can all see where each other are.
Life is good and it is a scary thing to let your kids go out in the world. But this is what all the effort you put in is for! I am amazed at her frankly. So much more mature than I ever was at her age.
She started training again and went to the gym. At 15 and 105 lbs she ATG squatted 135lbs. She has a lot of potential. But she goes on and off with the lifting. It would be a cool thing for her to find some others who enjoy training. It was a fantastic outlet for me after my hockey career was over. Without the gym I would have been lost. She dance very high level ballet for years but a ankle surgery sidelined her and she has not been back. I think lifting would be a great replacement.

OP I'm curious why you didn't send your daughter to college in a free state like Florida or Texas?

And to disappoint all the ones who guessed my daughter would be banging every frat guy left and right, sorry to disappoint. Their school has Monday off and she got her labs done early so she could come home for the weekend. (about a 3 1/2 hour drive). I went to the store and picked up here favorite sorbet she loves. Her mom is making her favorite dinner tonight. She just got in. The dogs were super happy to see her when she came up the driveway. (smart little creatures they are).
Life is good. I did not realize the amount of stress that I was carrying being nervous for her. It has been good. Besides a Bio teacher who did not post her assignment to web portal and she missed turning in her first two. (and of course this meant her life was over) , she is doing great. Like many times she called us for advice and we explained DONT email her. Just go visit during office hours IN PERSON and explain. The professor who stated first day NO late assignments accepted, told her she would exempt her from the first two.
College is much more than learning subject matter as outlined in the courses. It is about leaning to navigate though life as well.
Life and being successful, is determined so much by the people around you. You have to learn to make people want to help you along the way. No one does it on their own.
