My wife told our son something today, and it kinda pissed me off.

For anyone accusing her of hinting at me, she wasn’t. She was with me when I was young af and had nothing living paycheck to paycheck. She used me as an example when talking to our son about hard work. And yes she contributes about 30k a year which isn’t much, but she does it because she wants to. Without her we would still pull in 200k+
Part of me thinks she was slightly regurgitating some of the stuff I’ve said in the past to her. I’ve always despised the homeless, as I’ve always viewed it as a lifestyle vs being an unlucky situation.
Sure people can fall on hard times, but those people don’t stay homeless, so I don’t include them in that. I’m referring to the actual bums that choose to live that way.
Regardless, I’m 32 now and my views have changed slightly. I have a little more compassion than I used to. I’m not one to ever give them cash. A meal maybe, but never cash. For some reason what she said just didn’t sit well with me. Which is saying a lot when I think back historically to my own views.

You’re classifying people into just two groups, those who work themselves out of homeless. Or just addicts. But what about a legit real mental retard with an IQ of 50 who fell through the cracks and is homeless and may or may not be an addict? This is a large component of the homeless pop

Have you ever met poor people? Lived with them and around them? Seen how they operate? I have. I've been at ground zero. There's a reason they're poor, just like there's a reason homeless are homeless.
Unless they are literally orphans, how irresponsible and dangerous do you have to be to have literally zero family members willing to let you crash with them until you're on your feet? No parents, uncles, aunts, siblings, friends, or anything? You're telling me these people managed to make zero emotionally connections with people that would help them out while they got back on their feet.

As far as questioning the reality of people who deserve help and yet are not getting it a lot of people can become "orphans" by middle age and the system for getting help from an agency can require ticking a lot of boxes and providing a lot of documentation which [duh] those most in need of such help are rarely able to get through. I had an aunt who lived with her parents her entire life [mildly retarded?]. My mom had to fight like hell to get her a little monthly payment and then into a facility to stay after their parents had both passed. If my mom hadn't stepped up to do that then her sister could have absolutely been shoved out on to the street.
There is a homeless woman who likes to swing and sing loudly [and not well] at a nearby park. I'm glad she finds some joy somewhere. There is another older woman who I often see sitting at the edge of the Kroger parking lot in all sorts of weather. We are adjacent to a bus line and even for people who can find a place in some sort of shelter that isn't too dangerous or awful most require residents to get up and leave by 7 AM or some such and they are not allowed to return until a set time, may have to wait in line to try and get a bed for the night, and are then more or less locked in until the next day.

200% srs.
you know how during auto****y our body replaces, recycles, and destroys damaged proteins, this is an important step, kinda like when you clean up your house, or take a shower, we need to constantly destroy and replace the waste, bums on the street are a waste, like feces that come out of our asses, they need to be gotten rid of,
When we don’t clean up the garbage in our bodies, we end up with cancer, all these mutations, such as protesters, bums, ****philes, politicians, bankers, trannies, all those are mutated and damaged organisms, they need to be destroyed before they develop into cancer.

I offered a beer to a guy begging for money at a red light. He said "no, I'm trying to get off that" and walked away. Before the light turned green, he was back and said "I'll take that beer, it's a warm day".
It's all I had to give at the time.

These are the things that are good to think about so that when I have kids I can give a more nuanced approach to teaching some life lessons. Otherwise I 100% could come across as jaded in some ways.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Lack of or no healthcare then losing a job due that issue is not uncommon
If you have no safety net then it is easy to come onto hard times…a lot of people that end up homeless aren’t addicts. Many become addicts once homeless because it allows them to escape their reality

Curious why some of you think eating is this basic right that should be given to you. What species gets to eat that can't provide for itself? Those animals starve off and die. Best case scenario is there's a pack that supports one another, but usually each member still brings value in some form or another that allows them to be a part of the benefits which includes eating.
I agree with her completely. Is it a bit cruel and callous to say it out loud? Yeah but she's 100% correct as well. In this life you need to be able to provide for yourself and your son should know that lesson. She's literally trying to teach him to avoid being some leech expecting handouts.
This is something Democrats would support tbh.

Knowing my wife, I don’t think she actually meant it THAT literally. Especially the “eating” part. IMO it’s a 99.99999% chance that the money will go to drugs, alcohol or gambling. I’m just not sure if I should talk to her about how she worded it, or at least talk to our son about the not deserving to eat part.

As mentioned already ITT the land that can support life is owned by someone else, so good luck with your hunting and foraging goals. I guess you can dumpster dive if you can find any good ones and they aren't locked and no one runs you off.Contributing work and getting food to eat wasn't dependent on a system of employment for pay with very different outcomes for each person. Maybe that one good deed and that one meal can be a start in turning somebody's life around, and making your community and society as a whole better.
So cut them a break if you want, but it's also not ok either and that message should be communicated.... probably to the bum himself. You don't have to be mean about it but there's 0 reason he should be in that position. He needs to get his sh*t together and stop expecting others to support him.
Straight up that's the reality of the situation. OP's wife is 100% spot on
If all that happens though is you give that bum money and walk away you didn't help him. You just perpetuated poor behavior. The real support you should be giving them is not the money itself but the communication that's clearly needed to move past begging.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

What about women? Not a lot of women today would be able to support themselves if they weren't slobbing knob or showing booty and boobs online.

Try an experiment. See how long your wife would be willing to stand outside in 100* heat hoping for some $$ for a drink. She'd quit in 10 minutes. There's this guy who panhandles and he has his young kid with him. Cool looking kid that always has a beanie. What most people don't do is look at the person and see if they're clean. If they're clean I'll help you out. If it looks like you're on a bender, pass. This guy and his kid are clean and last time I saw them I gave them a small bag of dog food for the puppy the kid likes to carry around.
You're wife sounds like a spoiled biatch. No hate but most Miscers who are married on here have pretty terrible wives. Maybe 1-2 exceptions.

That last point you made is actually key. I've talked to homeless people and have treated them as human. The way they open up and even become emotional when you treat them with basic respect and actually ask about their lives can be pretty impacting. Just handing over a few dollars and walking off, not so much.

That's the reality of it. Easier to say those things when you're born into a good family, have money, fuk the right dude (OP). Statistically, TONS of people are literally one missed paycheck from being out on the street. For her to say NEVER give money and just hard work blah blah. Yeah fuk her. My younger bro, came from a loving healthy background in our family. Had all the doors open in life for him. Turned to drugs and the wrong people. If for some reason one day him surviving an extra day meant OP and his Wife giving him 2$, I would hope they do the right thing. Sounds like we'll be planning a funeral thanks to OP's wife. This is just an example but it's also reality for a lot of people out there. I'm not saying give EVERY person $$ or you'd be broke. But it would serve you, the community, and maybe society to do a good deed once in awhile regardless of what the person CHOOSES to do with it.Seems a bit harsh and over the top in the way she communicated it, but ultimately she is right.

Back when I drank a lot I had so many days where I told myself I was done with it. Took a long time to happen. But someone getting $$, especially today with a top of 104*, may just be that day.

In earlier times you could leave the village and head off into the woods. Food would be there to hunt, or it wouldn't.
This is not an option anymore.
Man has a natural right to eat though i think. Even if it takes force or violence to get it.
