TFW:

Your baby is feeling a little fussy and you cradle her in your arms. You lean in close and say "Hey. It's papa, remember me?" and that smile spreads across her face.

For the next few minutes the feels when every time I say something like "hey little one, want a snack?" and she just goes "ooo" every time I ask a question. My wife is shocked that she is so "vocal and only answers you". And she has been doing this with me since delivery srs.

Got damn the feels

Like some fathers here said - day to day, things change. She can 'track' me now with her eyes, and smiles and wiggles whenever I say "it's papa!"

Another father saw me with her in my wrap and went "Congrats man!" and those feels man, some folks with e.g. a 3 year old daughter come close and do the "that's a baby!" thing.

The feels.

Congrats, op.

I have a son that will be 3 this December, and a 6 day old son.

I gotta say, I hate infancy. Didn't like it the first time and I don't like it now. I don't have it in me to adore an infant.

When my infant son cries my first thought is "ffs", but I turn and look at my wife and mother-in-law and their expressions are "omg what's wrong??"

Lol makes me feel like a savage but it is what it is. Toddlers are great. Enjoy the process! Someone explained it perfectly to me: "the days are long but the years are short."

Before you know it they'll be developing a social life outside your home. I take my son to a toddler gym and let me tell you, they're all uncivilized to varying degrees. Lol

It's kind of relieving because the tantrums are a war of attrition, and if you're not exposed to tantrums from other children you start to think "am I doing something wrong?"

You see other toddlers are realize your kid is just a kid like the others.

Cheers.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

3 years old was when things got awesome imo. Infancy? Fuk that. 2 years old? Ok, we're getting somewhere. 3 and up? Hell yeah boy let's goooooooooooo!

Didn't feel like time was going quickly until his first day of kindergarten. Little man is 7 now. Getting smarter and more inquisitive all the time.

I can temporarily adore my baby - but if she gets very fussy and I see it stressing my wife at all my priority is my wife. It always will be.

We are the soul mates that came together. If, e.g., I had to choose to save either my wife or the baby during child birth it would be my wife 100% of the time.

Our harmonious times are after feeding now when our baby is fairly chill. She can follow objects now and even giggles slightly and that. But sometimes in the evenings it is a dance between her and my wife for her to "calm down" and sleep and my wife is again my priority there.

I feel like this is common as a man. My wife carries the vast majority of the responsibility towards our baby girl and I'll come in later. Most men say around month 10.

Dude we should have another call again to share experiences, srs. For me like you say - it's sort of - there are glimpses of who my baby is, but those times where she has 'problems pooping' and calms down after fussing for a while about it until she finally poops etc. Know what I mean?

My wife and I love fine dining, and we're already making reservations for a few months and hope to find a great sitter who can take care of her for a few hours. Let's talk soon breh.

Take my lil 2 year old boy out to the park alone every chance I get. There is a splash pad too, and I jump right there with him i don't give a fuk. I love watching him struggle to climb the jungle gym just to get to the top and say "I did it!". Or when he's running and falls, i can tell it hurts but he gets up and says "I'm okay!". I love being his buddy and his coach. I'm blessed that he wasn't born too soft.

Chit aint easy. Feel like this little mother fukers life coach lol. And cant be a good life coach if I am still fukin around in my own life. Definitely made me work harder, stop partying and be more disciplined.

I learned that as much as I try to teach him, he learns the most from just watching me. Kinda fukin scary if you think about it.

Congrats miscer dad. Fuk a dad bod. Show him a good example as best you can. Rest will follow.

I get you man. So you're doing that at 2 years old. A friend sent me a video if him with his 7 month old son at a 'baby gym', where he's sort of holding up his son to a chin up bar, and his son grips it, and then 'hangs' for a bit until he drops - was amazed his son landed on his feet. So seems like you can start having fun pretty early.

This is why I got back into swimming - I loved it as a kid/teen, and want to get my baby in there as soon as possible.

Setting an example as you say is the key - that "life coach" thing. I have a bit of a potty mouth (NYC...) and I realized I really have to catch myself swearing around her if I'm talking to my wife or on the phone.

It's a huge responsibility man. A lifelong commitment really.

It does get really fun around 3.

There is a nature reserve that bisects my subdivision. My son and I go there a few times a week to throw sticks and skip rocks. The first couple months he stuck to the creekbed but now he is exploring more.

As soon as he is able I am getting him a Jr rod and were gonna pull bass outta there.

I can't multi-quote. Lexbishop shared a link with me that allows it but I lost it. Lol

LogicalLifts I agree with you that the average man feels more bonded in the later months of the first year
Once their personality begins to emerge it's a totally different experience.

I told my wife and mother-in-law that I will leave them at home when we go to the park because they are helicopters. As much as it might annoy me sometimes, I do need to be reigned in as I am very much a "it's just a scratch" type parent amd toddlers will wreck themselves.

I also told them that if you're worried now you might have a heart attack later because our toddler takes after me. I was a wildchild. I wasn't a troublemaker, but I was reckless.

Yeah! I get glimpses of her personality now but nothing substantive - because her needs are 'immediate'. So we can be mid-cuddle and if she's hungry she'll start waving her hands and kicking out and it's the countdown to fussing/crying so then it is a quick handover to mama. Those longer bursts will come soon

Our families aren't here - hers are in Germany but her aunt/uncle are coming for two weeks followed by her parents. So we'll get a month of support. We have a doula and she's pretty good - I'm at work and she cleaned up, then massaged my wife a bit etc.

When I can take her swimming things will really take off. I can already feel it

I started a game with her earlier today, where I'd put one thumb in each of her hands and when she gripped gently 'lift'. She was cooing constantly and smiling and it was so awesome.

Now that she's not only in the sleep->feed->poop->sleep and after she feeds she can chill a bit, let the games begin.

For the brehs saying it gets way better later: I believe it. And wifey is already mentioning a second one consistently so...let's see heh

Earlier ITT I mentioned that a colleague calculated (NYC) raising costs to be 2.5m per, so plans are well underway.

Thank you!

When my baby looks in my eyes and coos every time I speak to her it is because she knows she won the family lottery srs.

She sleeps on my chest facing up at me and briefly awakens, sees me and smiles, then falls back asleep until it is time for more milk.

She is growing so fast. It is true what they always say. The feels srs.

Just over two months now, and still living the good life. She is fascinated by her hands and feet now, and increasingly seems to be trying to talk to me when I talk to her.

It's flying by already. The feels, srs.

Just over 3 months now, pediatrician keeps saying "99th percentile!" for growth and it didn't hit me until my wife showed me a collage she had made of photos from the birth until now. Her face changed so much! She loves 'kicking', and I weigh her feet down with my hands so she can "leg press" (lol), and we are super lucky that she's so vocal.

Even in a city like NYC, it's nice to see so many with smiles on their faces - and honestly so many kids around these days too. Still think the father's role comes online more later, but for now it is super fun to play with her.

There is not a happier feeling I the world bro. It truly does give life a whole new meaning and direction.

I wouldn't trade it for all the money in the world.

I get you man. Just seeing her face light up with that smile, the way she coos at me when I play with her (she loves grabbing my fingers and trying to move them, haha), the way she sleeps on me in the wrap...

We went for breakfast to a nice diner and the table next to us was giddy too with her smile. They just spread happiness, srs.

Tbh I didn't know I could love a baby until I had my own. Always saw them in a not-so-positive light before.

Now she wakes up from a nap on me and looks up at me and smiles and shyly tries to hide her grin by turning away, lol.

Gosh that went by fast! I always enjoy seeing babies out and about. Makes me so nostalgic. Really hope my son makes me a grandmother one day. Not yet though! lol

Yeah it's flying by already. In the diner earlier the couple next to us - the guy turned and said "My eldest is 31, and I still remember what it's like hehe" and was waving to my baby who just grinned. Seems like happy babies bring a smile to almost everyone's face!

My wife's grandma is still alive, so my daughter will get to meet her great grandma on that side - can you believe it?

My wife's grandma is still alive, so my daughter will get to meet her great grandma on that side - can you believe it?
Yes, for those of us with adult children it really brings back great memories when we see babies. Always makes me happy when I see a happy baby.

Wow, that's great! Both of my sons great grandmothers on my exes side and on my moms side were alive for his early childhood. My mommom was so tiny he was taller than her by like 6-7 years old. lol

And the interesting thing is the way parents relate through "phases". Had someone tell me he'd rather go through the newborn phase than the 6 month phase his kid went through. Another woman told me recently that my daughter will love me to bits until she's about 13, then hate my guts until her early 20s, then "love me again", lol. Seems like it'll be a wild ride.

On height: I'm 6'0" and my wife is 5'10", so that explains the 99th percentile thing. But I'm just surprised still I guess that all that growth comes only from breast milk. And wifey has been mentioning a second too...uh oh, lol.

We're traveling this Christmas so all the extended family will get to hold her, but I'm remarkably protective of her already, they better be nice

EDIT: to the person who organized more than 30 1* thread ratings over the last few hours - seek help. Sincerely, lol.

I really think it depends on the kid. Not all teens hate their parents. My son was a horribly high needs colicky infant so the first year or two was mostly not fun, but he was a pretty good toddler. We didn't really go through the terrible twos or trying threes like some people who had those easy babies that could be put down and be content all the time. He was also a pretty good teen. Not sure if that's more due to being a boy or what but the teen years weren't bad at all. He has had more angst against his dad than he's ever seemed to have with me. Could just be a male thing.

I'm 5'1 and ex is 5'10.5 and he was always in the highest percentiles for height and weight as a baby/young child. When he was 6 months old the deli workers would ask if he wanted cheese and the bank tellers would offer lollipops. I'd be like he's only 6 months old. lol He was always one of the tallest in his class until he was around high school age. He ended up being around 5'11.

That's great that all the extended fam will be able to meet her this Christmas. First holidays are so fun! Enjoy every minute.

Mine has discovered that if she waves and says hello to people, they will wave and say hello back; so she is doing it toeverybody.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......
