In terms of photography/videography, just LOL at Sony's system. There are barely any native lenses. Tilt shift? Telephoto? Wide angle? Fish eye? Does no one else see giant red flags when all the Sony users are adapting Canon lenses and dreaming of the day when there is a Nikon adapter that will work?

If someone is getting paid and they're willing to jump through hoops to get a better product, I have no issues with that. If you're not getting paid, it's only a matter of time until you're gong to get bent over.

All of the manufactures ignored smartphones which have rightfully destroyed the point and shoot market. The consumer level products that were released 10 years ago were absolutely terrible. Seconds long shutter lag, non-existent buffers, SD/xD/Memory Stick combined with various USB and dock connections, long startup times, and various other problems that made the user experience terrible. Decisions were made based on how much money could be bilked out of consumers. It's no wonder that people ditched camera manufactured because smart phones do it better.

The decrease in revenue from loss of point and shoot sales means less money for the photography divisions of companies. Quality suffers. I expect a couple of manufactures to leave the market over the next 5-10 years.

As I said previously, my comment is in regards to non-photography forums/communities, I'm a massive proponent of constructive critique and its power to improve art in general, but its both expected and fully warranted within an artistic community and not so much so in niche threads in a massive offtopic forum.

End of the day it doesn't really matter, I'll keep giving my 2c where I believe it is wanted here and save the essay long critique posts for tp / pf / np etc forums, and you can keep doing your thing.

Also lol reddit for literally anything.

fair enough. I paid full price for my 6D when it was new out, wish i just saved that extra £ for the 5DIII looking back.

I can't link it cos i'm still a <50 post newb but I recommend the Sigma 24-105 for the 6D - much better than its canon equivalent

Despite the above comment to the contrary the Canon 24-105 isn't bad, but the Sigma Arts version is a much better deal. Also, see Sigma's 50 Arts.

Valid points but at the end of the day if someone is simply doing it purely as a hobby for some enjoyment then I think it's important to carefully deliver that criticism to avoid discouraging them. Personally it would bother me if something I said even with the best of intentions ultimately made someone quit doing it.

And of course it's easy to be a critic. Look no further than the comments on Youtube. People love teeing off from behind a keyboard never having to back up what they say with results, experience, etc.

While I'm open to anyone being critical of my own work I'll admit I do get a little defensive when I see it being done to others. If the criticism is harsh then I expect to see that they can back it up with examples of their own work. Also another big factor would be the current high end Sonys eat batteries like fat kids eat cake.

Don't mistake my annoyance at Nikon as a company and their past decades QA/support with disliking their products, the D800/(810) to me is the closest thing to perfect of a camera I could ask for, built like a brick, intuitive and natural in the hand, amazing image quality, amazing dynamic range, amazing recover-ability of shadows, lens selection is superb both Nikkor and 3rd party. Its just when you drop four figures or more for a camera body you should expect a premium service, both in terms of what you initially receive and in terms of after sales service and help, it probably has something to do with a breakdown in communication between Japans HQ and Europe/NA HQ's but the issues with the new releases and half assed recalls of the past 5 years have really impacted customer confidence.

I've massive hopes for the D810's successor, I dream of a few more FPS, bit more MP, couple stops more DR, some better video support, good port connectivity, BT/WIFI, and a movable touch screen (no really this would be amazing for landscape togs and itll save my neck getting ****ed up with weird viewing angles on tripod) if they did the aforementioned then it would sell like hotcakes. If they somehow manage to ****up however I will be holding onto my cash and looking towards the A7RII lines next successor instead.
How can they compete without a full line up of native lenses? I just spent a couple days on youtube/forums. While the general consensus is that the body is fantastic, the lack of lens selection kills its possibility for me. I know my plans are simple and could probably be accomplished going that route, but even the best laid plans need to change sometimes. So, if my plans change, I don't want to be stuck without a solution.

Damn it I can't find the link but in an interview Leica's CEO said that Nikon would go bankrupt within 5 years if they kept doing the same thing (he did say Nikon but it was implied).

Sony has finally gotten serious with their professional services but it'll be a while before people forget about their "I don't care about the customer" reputation.

Canon is the Apple of cameras. Play it safe, charge a premium for old tech, provide excellent customer service. Plus they just said that their new lens technology will allow photography that was previously not possible. Really looking forward to what they mean.

I'm happy with Fuji and now that they released the GFX I might as well skip FF and buy the crop medium format camera instead (once I have enough clients obviously).

It's about 10 years old, the lens is awful for its price. (They may have a newer version out recently but the one i'm thinking of, its awful)

I've heard that before about many companies and they're still alive and well. Nevertheless, not all bankruptcies are terminal.

Sony has finally gotten serious with their professional services but it'll be a while before people forget about their "I don't care about the customer" reputation.
Sony is first and foremost an electronics manufacturer and is huge. They can afford to take chance that product specific manufactures cannot. You should also keep in mind that support for their consumer/prosumer products can be here today, and gone tomorrow.

Canon is the Apple of cameras. Play it safe, charge a premium for old tech, provide excellent customer service. Plus they just said that their new lens technology will allow photography that was previously not possible. Really looking forward to what they mean.
Which is a good thing if you decide to invest in their products. No built-in 6/12/etc. month obsolescence. Sure competition will force it after so long, but at least its not like its a primary rule of the model. Which should give anybody that heavily invests in their products, some peace of mind.

Sony has the A-mount because they bought Konica Minolta's camera division. Konica Minolta had to leave because nearly every Maxxum 5D, and every Maxxum 7D were recalled. They all had the "first black frame" problem. There are no longer parts available to repair the cameras, so any camera that wasn't repaired will eventually only take black pictures.

Sony also installed rootkits on people's computers in 2005.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_B...ootkit_scandal

The Playstation Network keeps getting hacked. In 2011 every user's data was stolen.
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2011/...s-been-stolen/

In 2014, there was "The Interview" hack.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Pictures_hack

A stolen credit card number is annoying to deal with. If hackers get a hold of product registration information, anyone that has several bodies/lenses will have to worry about getting robbed.

Fuji is still providing support and firmware updates for the X-E1 which was discontinued in the middle of 2013.

They can't yet, it's why I pointed it out as a main reason I can't consider them yet. I really hope all the major brands step up their game, competition is only good.

Actually that's a contradiction. Unfortunately we don't get to pick and choose the criticism we get. But we can be selective on what we think is valid, and what is not.

it'll piss me off if someone looks at a picture i took and points out a handful of things wrong.

thats not how imo constructive criticism works

Not suggesting it has to be a giant circle jerk of happiness but some people just aren't very good at delivering constructive criticism. Some aren't good at taking it either.

Take someone who's genuinely in a position to be critical. Let's say they see 20 things wrong with your photo and list half of them and not in a very polite way either. How do you respond to that? It's easy to think "okay I'm sh*t at this, I quit."

I think it's better to point out a couple of things that could be improved while focusing on some positives as well. You can go away and work on them. It's a lot easier to learn that way and still enjoy it vs. being bombarded with negativity.

There are a lot of great photographers who'd cringe at some of their early efforts today and might have quit if it got torn to shreds at a time when they had a lot of passion for it and were still learning.

I've recently started tutoring 1st year architecture students and it's been a learning curve on how to give feedback on peoples work. Say the wrong thing and they'll just implode / start to cry

eh. I prefer to not be fluffed before the critique, but I do want to see the work of the one who critiques first.
When someone just goes off on an image and has bupkis to show for themselves, I normally ignore that. Another reason I appreciate your feedback so much.

And funny thing on the d750.. I own 2.. one is looking at 97K actuations, and no issues so far.

I once took a screenwriting class and the first day of class the instructor very carefully went over the methods and reasons for giving critiques (basically the whole point of any art class).

The third week of class we turned in our first screenwriting assignments. One student was a little too direct on the negatives of another student's work and the student jumped up and started shouting obscenities (I thought it was going to come to blows). He then gathered up all his belongings, left class and never came back.

Thing was, his work was the best in the class, save the those few weak parts pointed out by the other student which I happened to agree with.

I talked to the teacher about what went wrong (in an effort to learn how to more passively give critiques) and he just said, "you can't win them all."

BTW, the teacher also found no fault with the above critique.

I used to believe that too, but in reality you don't have to be an expert (most critiques aren't) to see mistakes, error, areas for improvement, etc. in others work.

Artist develop their style, but no matter how long it took them to develop it, some others still might not like it.

My general rule is, if more than one person says the same thing, then the critique at least deserves my attention. Even if my conclusion is I'm satisfied with the way it is.

Lol, I am immune to harsh criticism now. Studying architecture you present your design on a weekly basis to egotistical tutors who only view your work from their ideology of how architecture should be, which results in extremely blunt/harsh feedback - was tough to swallow at first but now it's just the norm

however i'd say every 1 in 2 girls breaks down in tears every week

anyway, here's another image, the brief was "combine your favourite film, building and artwork" lol

Any good beginner dslr, don't have a high budget. Probs around 300 bucks, if not I'll stick with my phone.

Personally with $300 I wouldn't bother, saving up a little extra and having a budget of ~$500 you could get quite a decent entry level camera + lens. (Nikon D3400)

My first camera was a Lumix G2, god what a terrible camera.

Went ahead and ordered the D500 and the 70-200 vrii. I can't justify the new version of the 70-200 at a $700 increase in price.
You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Likewise. Always appreciate your feedback.

Glad you haven't had any issues. I've been lucky with all my Nikon gear over the last 10-15 years. Only thing that's failed on me was a grip which happened in the middle of a wedding. Mirror jammed once on my D800E in MUP mode when I first got it but turning it off, switching to S mode and taking a shot fixed the problem.

I'm sure if I shot brick walls all day I might find something to complain about but not in the real world. Most of my glass is pretty old now but if it ain't broke… I still love my 85 1.4D and 70-200 VR1.

VRII is a great lens so you can't go wrong there. New zoom ring location on the E would probably annoy me.

]Anyone here possibly have a good mount from Sony e mount to canon? Trying to have at least decent autofocus on the a7ii. Not trying to do metabones since I've heard those can be just as bad but paying a premium for crap. Any help would be appreciated since I'm new to the mirror less world and its been a change but a good kind of change

Here's some shots from the mirror less

P.S traveling to Chicago next month any insane cool spots to shoot? Would love to explore as much possible
