Buckner and Armstead are prototypical 3-4 DEs though.

I think you can probably keep Buckner on the outside in a 4-3 but ideally you want smaller/faster DEs in a 4-3.

If we do switch to a 4-3 then Kawann Short(if not franchised) should be a serious target in free agency.

Though a line of Buckner, Jonathan Allen, Armstead, Lynch could be pretty decent though it may be a bit concerning for the run blocking with Buckner and Armstead being so big.

Honestly if we did switch to a 4-3 I wouldn't be shocked if we traded Armstead and it would be unfortunate because he was just drafted 2 years ago but also because due to his injury and lack of playing time his value would be way lower than it should be for his potential.

Wolf withdraws his name from the GM search. That leaves us with 2-3 possible hires now?

That's a shame I would've preferred him due to his dad but really outside of having his dad around I'm not sure he's any better candidate than the other guys.

Perhaps he felt the other guy had the upper hand.

It's so frustrating seeing how the Pats do things living in Mass…and following the 49ers and how bad they're dealing with everything.

idk what to think guys. I do think KS will be a good hire at HC. I think he's definitely shown that hes can produce.

i really wish we could have gotten fangio back at DC.

want i dont get is the report about Gus Bradley only wanting to coach for us if Cable was the HC. Idk why Tom Cable is even a serious candidate for HC anywhere. Just seems unstable…

at this point though i'm just preparing myself for another 2-3 of crap while we get our **** together. I'm hoping Kyle sets things up right and we get a GM that can provide him with what he needs/wants, and Jed is patient.

Good to see ya bro. I think we're all in the same boat. 2-3 seasons of mediocrity should be what we're all prepared for.

Yeah Shanahan will help but we don't have the talent or even close to it on offense that Atlanta has. Hopefully we'll get there but it will take time and luck.

Like I said we are missing a lot of pieces… he will be getting pretty much the same roster from the last 2 seasons at the moment. Curious just to see if he can do something with it.

Then again we have the FA and draft.

Watching Atlanta with Kyle Shannahan and thinking it'll transfer to the 49ers is laughable at best.

In ATL he's driving a Ferrari around the track. In San Francisco he'll be driving an 86' Buick.

Same driver but don't expect anything even resembling the same result.

Yeah no QB, no stud WR, much weaker OL. Not a great recipe.

However Shanahan definitely knows offense so we have to hope he can help develop a young QB and WRs for us and not be a douche who alienates the players and coaches.

I am trying to look forward to Shanahan and it helping but talent is nowhere near same at ATL. Need to hit good draft, or make some FA signings. But TBH we don't even have Shanahan so at this point because of how things tend to go for us he'll win the SB in ATL and then stay and we're completely fuked with no coach and no GM.

very much agree. awesome, well respected as a player. i even like him as an analyst, but what do we even know about his talent evaluation?

i'm hoping he's got a history of scouting reports that shows sleepers from the last 10 yrs…idk…very much out of left field.

oh well…guess i gotta give him a chance…

To add…'giving someone a chance' usually comes with some sort of justification to do so. Jed and the niners have been god awful at front office since taking over the team…Lynch has zero history as a GM.

No thanks on the chance. No thanks on the Niners anymore. Going to make an effort to find a new team…not sure that will work, but definitely done here srs. May start by PM'n Dan and saying sorry.

Confused as well….

From what it sounds like he interviewed or at least popped up about two weeks ago as a possibility. He said he wanted it to remain quite. Surprisingly no one leaked anything about this.

Very out of left field for sure. But I'm not going to bash the move because GM is a crapshoot.

Lynch was a great player and a pretty smart dude. I believe we've seen both sides of this type of hire - your Matt Millenns and your John Elway.

I'm hoping Lynch has similar success to Elway.

At the end of the day I think it's a good pairing relationship and strength vs weaknesss situation. Shanahan being the offensive mind and Lynch knowing defense.

All GMs make mistakes and you won't find many guys available who do a terrific job Year to year because they have secure jobs for successful teams.

It's very odd to hire a guy with no experience but I think their biggest thing was to make sure the coach and GM were in sync.

Either we crash and burn with both of these first time HC/GM or strike gold. I don't think there will be a middle ground.

Obviously I'm hoping for the later option.
