Got my bonus check in from work the other day. Was thinking about nabbing a panerai or jlc I've been stammering on about, bit had a change of heart. Said **** it and ordered some micros, and I've fallen back in love with them. I'll save the rest of my bonus and maybe take a trip with part of it. Told myself I'm over blowing money on $5,000 and up watches. They have their place for sure, but not right now for me.

Grabbed a Heroic18 bronzo, been in love with them for a while and they just released a new batch. For those looking for a sub $1,000 bronze watch, grab this ****er. I'm in love. Comes with three of their own awesome straps. Great value.

Also picked up Benarus vintage moray. This thing is amazing as well. Has an amazing domed acrylic crystal that looks better than the one on my speedy and even the PAM 372 I briefly owned. For $500 this is an amazing value as well.

Also got a Seiko turtle reissue incoming Monday

Miyota 9015 in both. I'd say very similarly finished to the 2824.

just depends I have purchased some watches new, and some used. If the used value is within a couple hundred dollars of the new one I'll usually just by new and avoid any hidden issues, and that way you get a warranty, if it's a substantial difference than I don't mind buying second hand at all.

Since it sounds like you're starting out, you can usually get 10-15% off pretty easily from pretty much any dealer on most brands. Sometimes 20% if you're lucky. Then if you use the same dealer over time (which is why I like to use dealers that carry multiple brands I'm interested in), they'll usually knock off more as you become a more regular customer.

There are a few brands that have a reputation for discounts that are much harder to come by with Rolex being the big one.

I'm done with the 9015 for life, it's meant to be a real workhorse but both that I've had have chit themselves badly at just under the 2 year mark.

I can't imagine them being terribly expensive fixes, no? To be fair, most higher end watches I've owned have had problems. My panerai had issues, as did my Rolex, and my Tudor's 2824 had it's rotor fall off almost. One of the reasons I'm going to cheaper watches.

Spoiler!

That's straight up beautiful.

Anyone have any thoughts on this new watch? (Unimatic Modello Uno) http://www.ablogtowatch.com/unimatic...atch-review/2/

I love the look of it and am honestly tempted to pull the trigger… but it might be the limited edition that's urging me in that direction. The company doesn't have any history (this is its first watch) but uses Seiko movement and all of the reviews seem to point to the positive. I love the simple, barebones look of it.

Looking for the next watch to expand my collection but $500 is around the upper end of my budget (ain't got no money for dat shizz at the moment)… That Benarus is a beaut for around the same price and I've been thinking Hamliton as well.

Yeah but even sub $200 every 2 years is too much on a $700 watch, at that rate id be better off buying real cheap or more expensive. It's the main problem with these intermediate watches.

What kind of problems have you been having with the 9015? I don't think I have anything that uses that movement. To be honest tho I think that's the issue with mechanical watches in general, you have to appreciate them on a level other than just a watch cause even with a more expensive watch you've got high service costs every 3-7 years. You figure 5-600 bucks for a basic 3 hand movement with a date like the Omega 1120. That's about the same as a 200 every 2 years for service, except you shelled out 3-5k upfront for the watch. I think for a lot of people that's a big deterrent cause they don't think that after paying thousands for a watch they should have to pay 500+ every few years. After 10 years you could have tacked on an extra 1500 bucks on what was otherwise a 4 thousand dollar piece. And then you take a look at watches like an ap chronograph or a patek calendar or something with an insanely high service cost in the 2-5k range per service. It's just part of the game. They're machines which have moving parts, and will require maintnance after time.

you US brahs should look into canadian vendors…you get basically an extra 39% off just by converting to our currency

Unless the watch is limited and hard to find, you should never be paying sticker price for a higher end watch. You can literally go into almost any watch store and say "whats the best you can do on this" and they'll give you a discount. As mentioned above though, Rolex is tough, but still negotiable.

There's a few of us. Always looking for a deal on the used market but since the dollar went to chit I haven't bought anything at all.
For affordables, keep an eye out on Amazon.ca.

The Orient Mako was at an all-time low yesterday but sold out very quick.

What price would you put on an 18k solid gold omega century from the 60s that's recently been serviced with some original parts and crystal replaced?

BTW, was offered a speedy in the only variations (besides some LEs an pre-pro) that I like.

A 3572.50.00, Hesalite crystal, Saphire Caseback and 1863movement. With one of the last tritium dials ever made (last year).
Added bonus; It's a birthyear piece for me.

Jumped on the opportunity and am absolutely loving it. Somehow this one doesn't look as dull.

Offered in a trade. So buy. It's similar to his, Cept this has numbers and not all stick indices. Also doesn't have that original strap and buckle.

Oh nice dude, that's solid. Congrats! I've never really thought about acquiring a birth year piece.

the mako usa is a little different has a different kind of lume, sapphire crystal and solid endlinks. theyre 225 and only available on the orient usa sight. the regular one imo has a better aesthetic, it doesnt have the mentioned features above tho.

as for the one your looking at, i have that one in the same color combo, the area id say to be cautious and check for scuffs is that chrome lip between the crystal and the orange bezel. its such a high polish that it picks up little hairline scuffs from everything, they arent really noticable from arms length but if you examine it you will notice them, and for the difference of maybe a hundred bucks from new to used, id just buy that thing new so you can avoid having any surprises. island watch usually has it for like 170, thats just my .02 tho

great info….the brah Im looking into the Mako with is Canadian too….I checked that website and after conversion Ill pay ~233$ CAD

I might be better off on amazon.ca for now

Ive hasd this problem with fragrances and havent bought anything in a while….when a sweet deal pops up in USD is really just cancels out as I gotta pay almost an extra 40% to convert my cash
