I keep them in the camera bag. Unfortunately, the XQD cards are pricey so I don't keep as many as I used to.
You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

I use Google Nik on a lot of my pictures. Highly suggest everyone download it since its free. Only issue is when they bought it a few years ago they basically stopped updating it so there is little issues with it now. Ive been using it for a year now and I still learn little tricks.

As if today's digital photographers weren't lazy enough.

Don't know about you but the real satisfaction comes from putting in the time scouting a location, finding unique compositions, and waiting for the light. My favorite images are the ones I've taken where you can search Google for something similar and find nothing. I might have made a few mistakes the first couple of times but I returned and got it right. Trial and error. Learning. Thinking about what I'm doing. Visualizing the shot I want.

If all I did was copy someone else's photo, turn up at the exact GPS location, dial in the same settings, and slap the same actions on them in post, what exactly have I done that I can take any pride in?

Who was lighting? Seriously.

How is that waste of money going to setup and meter strobes? It's not. Chit photographers think they can buy their way to skills. The world doesn't need more center framed garbage.

If someone can't correctly expose and image, they aren't going to be capable of making an interesting composition. The camera is literally the least important piece of photographic equipment. It never ceases to amaze me how stupid people are. Only people without a clue would fall for that garbage.

Good point. Still, relatively speaking all of us today have it significantly easier than did our film based predecessors. With digital, we can take as many photos as we want to get it right. With film based media, it cost money every time you click the shutter.

To be fair, digital cameras have had microprocessors (that do a huge part of the work i.e. exposure, focus, etc.) in them for some time now.

That said, the industry can only become as technologically advance as we allow it. Consider our modern life: if we make the databases large enough, will we one day even still need an education?

I'm not opposed to advances in technology but all that talk about AI with regard to the creative process makes me cringe. It's as ridiculous as software or an app that is going to write a book or compose music for you. Are you still going to call yourself the author/composer?

I don't have any problems with the creator of the product. It sounds like a interesting challenge from a technical point of view. Though I view the value as having the technical knowledge to make the product. The product itself is actually worthless.

My problem is with the people that funded the project. At least I have the decency to know I suck at photography. The Arsereaming does nothing to get someone to a specific place before the sun comes up. A tent or dropbear repellent would be a better investment to get a quality image. I don't have respect for people that can't even figure out the correct priorities for improvement right. The Arsereaming is going to be another expensive doodad that gets used twice before being sold years down the line.

On the bright side, I'm going to buy a minty fresh D800 or D810 from one of these idiots after the D850 gets released. Gotta love morans that sustain themselves by eating depreciation.

Seems like something GWCs with too much money/not enough skill will be happy to show off at their next photo meet. Any real photographer will already know basic chit like setting a long exposure to capture motion or stopping down to get more DOF. But good for this dude if he's going to make money off it.

I just wanted to clarify my viewpoint. But speaking of gadgets that will do all the work…

How about that Sony A9? Apparently, not only does the battery life suck, but it overheats!

F-K-I-N L-O-L SONY

I wonder how many lemmings have already ditched their Canons and Nikons and jumped off the cliff for this thing.

A lot of the mirrorless junkies seem to be in denial when it comes to physics. What they take away from the body they add to the lens so unless you've got a pancake on it there's no advantage. Even worse is the whole system feels unbalanced and lens heavy. Battery life is also garbage.

My D800E is 5 years old and still going strong. Can get all the resolution I need for landscapes shooting panos with a dedicated head so there are no parallax issues. Have zero interest in mirrorless.

Portrait session shot I did of my friend who graduated from the Naval Academy. Took my backdrop outside and used a mix of natural light with strobe.

You nailed it brah. This is mostly just automating standard techniques photogs use to get around some technical limitations it won't do the actual hard work it takes to create a decent picture. Much of the time a good shot is just a formality, all the hard work has been in pre-production.

I have the same camera and other than maybe af performance there is still just zero reason to upgrade.

****ing lol @ arsenal, what a sad little gadget that will only be used by the instagram***gotphotographers of the world

part of the fun (for me) is turning up at X location and having to run through all your test shots, makes the end result so much more satisfying

Thank fuk we can do that! I'm not that old but started with film (cost of digital was stratospheric) and working blind setting up lighting was brutal. There is some technology that has legit made life so much easier.

This isn't a brag post, but I'm about to be rich because I'm the best inventor on the Misc. I just finished my first prototype to solve Sony's overheating problems. It took me less than 10 minutes because of how smart I am. My IQ is about 350. I'm a genius.

I don't think I even need to make any revisions before launching my million dollar Kickstarter. (Sorry if you're feeling inadequate. srs.)

Spoiler!

notsrs, you should feel inadequate

So the 6D II will come with a flippy screen and (apparently) dual SD slots. Who's interested?

For my part I'm going back to Canon tomorrow but with a 50 1.8 and an Elan 7, wanna see what shooting with film is all about.

These are what I read when I first started:

https://www.amazon.com/Understanding...nding+exposure

https://www.amazon.com/National-Geog...hy+field+guide

I took my first real camera everywhere with me, put around 20,000 shots on it the first two years I had it. Post everything online seeking constructive criticism.
