Oh nice dude, that's solid. Congrats! I've never really thought about acquiring a birth year piece.

Pics?
Dallas (the dude who offered you the watch) has been asking $750 for the watch for the longest time and still hasn't sold it. The dial isn't in great condition, my Centuries always have pristine clean white dials, and I still struggled to sell, took me more than a month to get only $950. I'd value the one you linked at $500-600.

Might as well just pop in a new movement for like $80 if it breaks lol.

Heads up for my MWC brahs. Black orient mako USA is on sale at islandwatches for $160, down from $225. Just ordered the white one at full price, but this is a great deal for the price.

so ****ing cool. Out of curiosity what does it cost to get into flying? Licence (private, recreationally, obvi), lessons, and eventually an entry level craft?

There are so many ways it can be done. You can go to an expensive 4yr school and get a bachelor's degree in flying and spend around 200k all in.

You can go to an accelerated program and get it done around 75k but no degree and be done in 6 months.

Or you can do what I did and take your time. Get the required licenses as you can afford them (no debt for me) and find people in the industry that are willing to help you as you go. Not usually financially but can help you get time in planes and maybe guide you along the path of gaining experience. I currently donate time as a flight instructor to younger pilots that work hard as a way to pay forward the help I got along the way. It took me about 3.5-4 years to get from no license to making a living flying and around 30k since I was methodical and planned the cheapest route. My peers might be paying back loans while I'm planning what watch I want next.

If you want it done fast it will cost a lot more. But learning to fly will never be cheaper than it is today.

for sure brah. It can be a great hobby too. For the price of a Sub you can become a private pilot and start there. You gotta start somewhere.

Want to get myself a nice daily watch:

Eye is on Olivier bronze diver, but Poison already sold his and been watching the used sites.

I'd like a bronze tool watch with date, but they tend to run big. Helson and Prometheus both seem too big. Any ideas? Budget <750.

Current collection is Rolex 5513, vintage Seamaster, current tool watch is a Citizen Sailhawk.

I can't vouch for the company themselves, but I believe they started as a kickstarter campaign. Good looking but slightly above your budget at about $800. They have some other bronze models as well.

They need to do that in 38-40mm, black face, PVD coating and the orange bezel… I'd buy two.

HHHHNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG to both, gjdm!!! Seriously mirin, not only what you've acquired, but also the way you did it. Much respect. Do you take watches in exchange for flying lessons? I've always wanted to fly as well, even more so after having co-piloted (with full control mid-air) an L-39 Albatros fighter jet. It's such an amazing feeling, and incredibly liberating! Do you own your own plane yet?

Ouch :-/ I learned this rule of thumb the hard way; if the dial is ****ty, don't invest in it, and don't service it. Your buddy could've bought a solid 18k Omega from me for $700, or a fantastic pristine all original solid 18k Seamaster De Ville Automatic (incl orig bracelet, buckle and box, this baby is 50 years old, but it's in better condition than most watches from 10 years ago). Actually he still can, both are still available .

By the way, if any of you guys are looking for a great watchmaker in the US, I know someone who does excellent work, and on average he only charges about $115 for a full service if I recall correctly. And if you're looking for an even greater master watchmaker in Canada, you have to buzz The Buzz.

I used too. The picture with the B&R was in a plane i used to co-own. I sold my share once I started flying for work. I didnt use it as mucb. I would love to get back in to something like that though but it can make being a wristwatch enthusiast look like a cheap hobby when the maintenance bill comes due. You win with the L39 flight. That kind of thing is high on my to do list.

That's what I figured. I looked up prices, and planes are pretty affordable ($200-400k for the Albatros), but I imagine maintenance is at least a couple thou… if you're lucky.

Hey brahs.. Looking for a dive watch for max $500. Would prefer a Swiss movement and a max case size of 40mm. Was looking at the Squale Atmos 20 but it's too expensive here in Australia. Any suggestions?
I only eat food in bar form. When you concentrate food, you unleash its awesome power, I'm told. That's why I'm compressing 5 pounds of spaghetti into one handy mouth-sized bar…

in that price range squale OS prob your best bet, you can look into steinhart if you want Swiss,l and under 500, maybe Hamilton, but idk about the diving collection they have. check the used market too. Any particular reason your ruling out a Japanese watch? Seiko would be right in your ball park with the sumo imo.

Sorry, should have said I want a max case size of 40mm. Super small wrists.

I see all brass, which I'm hesitant to go with over bronze bc of wear. A8 in bronze with date would be killer.
