Interesting(though short) read on new TEs coach/Assistant HC.
http://blog.sfgate.com/49ers/2017/02...nt-head-coach/
Sounds like a really good dude. Hopefully he helps. Not sure how many of you guys remember the Rae Carruth situation but that was fuking awful.
Also a nice read regarding WRs in Shanahan offenses.
http://ninerswire.usatoday.com/2017/...kyle-shanahan/
Conclusion at the end is that his offense really shines when his QBs have elite #1 type WR.
Personally I still think drafting WR top 10 is not a wise move but if we were to trade down a bit Mike Williams or Corey Davis are legit options. I prefer Davis as I think his upside is bigger.

Our new DC
Adam Caplan ✔ @caplannfl
Former #Jaguars LBs coach Robert Saleh is expected to join #49ers as defensive coordinator, source said.
I was hoping we could get the Pats LBs coach but hopefully this is a quality hire. Can't say I'll miss Jim O'Neil.

Wow.. Glad to see things moving quick! I do not know anything about him. Google here I come.
***EDIT***
Wow… He is only 38. We are going to have a fairly young coaching staff.

Very curious to hear the plan here. It certainly hints at us moving to a 4-3 as this guy comes from the Seattle/Atlanta defensive scheme.
Question is what does this mean for Armstead and Buckner. More so Armstead. I don't think they're great fits at 4-3. Doesn't mean they can't play there but it opens up to trading Armstead and getting a more 4-3 friendly guy inside if they intend to move Buckner in.
One thing for sure is there are lots of 4-3 DEs who can be really good in this class. Jonathan Allen at #2 is most certainly in play now. Solomon Thomas is still my guy if we trade down a bit.

Seems to be incapable of making basic life decisions due to serious drug/alcohol issues.
Sad to see his career end like this… First three seasons were special.

It really sucks because right now our front 4 would look very good, potentially dominant if he kept playing the way he did before all teh suspensions/arrests got to him.
I can't wait til free agency/draft to see what we do with this team. I think the switch to 4-3 really adds intrigue to that #2 pick.

I think Pete Carroll said they run a 4-3 with 3-4 players.
It does open up more picks and I think we will be ok. I think Jonathen Allen is in play at #2 now although I think I'd rather have Soloman Thomas as he fits more of a need. We still need a edge rusher and NT no matter what defense we play.

And I don't think it's been confirmed but speculated by lots of different sources. Looks like he was with Houston from 2005 to 2010 then went to Seattle and Jacksonville after that. Only year he would've been with a team running a 3-4 base is 2005 when Capers was the HC for Houston. Once Kubiak took over they moved to a 4-3 so he definitely seems like a 4-3 guy but technically this day and age it's pretty rare for a 3-4 team to go with base package most of the game. Even when we were running it we'd spent a lot of time with 4 man fronts.
I hate the idea that we could give up on a young talented kid who hasn't had much opportunity to show what he could do but it does feel that in order to go to a 4-3 properly Armstead become dispensable. Buckner is definitely a keeper but you need a run stuffer next to him at NT. Few of those guys available in free agency this year. Then you need fast pass rushers on the outside who can play the run as well.
Myles Garrett would be perfect with whichever defense we ended up going with. Switching to a 4-3 the options have to be Jonathan Allen or Solomon Thomas or Derek Barnett. I think in a sense Buckner would play the position that Allen would be best suited for in a 4-3 front so he actually is out for similar reasons he was out if we stayed in a 3-4 front(too may bodies at same position). Thomas to me is a great player because he can be moved around and be effective. He can play DE or move inside on obvious passing downs.
Lynch and Harold…maybe even Tank have to show something at DE.
Solomon Thomas, Brandon Williams, Deforest Buckner, Lynch could be a pretty good front 4.
Of course linebackers will be a question mark as well. Bowman would be a great fit…health is the big question mark. I'd love to get Haason Reddick in the 2nd round. Between Bowman, him, Ray Ray and possibly a free agent or another draft pick we can be pretty decent quick enough.

It sucks having Bowman injured. If we had Bowman pre-injuries we'd be in terrific shape.

Weak FA class for key positions though.

Yeah i'm guessing they'll wait until they've gone over potential draft picks and FA pick ups.
I've seen beat writers talk about how Pete Caroll runs a 4-3 with 3-4 personnel but no official statement.

I am really liking all the new coaching changes. It is fresh to see a head to toe rebuild there. I would like to think it might be inticing to players here now with what is going on. The front office seems to be taking a step back and letting the GM and HC do what they need to. This is completely oposite of what we had for the last few years. I am getting exciting to see what happens during the FA.

Don't know much about the new OL coach but I like the hire of Demeco Ryans as an assistant. Always enjoy when teams hire former players as I think it helps leadership wise as well.
Low risk signing of Williams. Sounds like health was his issue so if he can get healthy he may be able to be decent depth at least.

Hmm…very intersting
NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah "would not be shocked at all" if the Redskins and 49ers agree to a trade involving Kirk Cousins at the Combine.
Jeremiah isn't a typical Rotoworld source on the NFL side, but with draft season upon us, he definitely has an ear to the ground and talks with numerous personnel people around the league. He believes there's a "better than 50 percent" chance that Cousins isn't with the Redskins in 2017, and a deal involving Cousins going to San Francisco, possibly along with the Redskins' No. 17 overall pick, in exchange for the 49ers' No. 2 overall pick is in the cards. Furthermore, Jeremiah reports the Redskins' front office still isn't sold on committing to Cousins long-term. Washington seems intent on bungling this offense that at times over the past two seasons looked like it could be one of the best in the league. Cousins would be a massive get for the rebuilding Niners.
I would be ok with that. I'm not a huge Kirk Cousins fan but obviously Kyle Shanahan is so my opinion doesn't mean much.
Cousins and #17 for #2 makes a lot of sense. If that's the deal then I'm all for it as we can get a better bang for the buck at that pick that we may at #2 overall and it would add a quality(afraid to call him franchise) QB.
Cousins and someone like Derek Barnett/Corey Davis(using cbs prospect ranking chart) would be terrific…especially if we could get Corey Davis who I think is the best receiver in this draft.
