The internet changed everything. I love gear but I'm probably not a gear head as much as some . I have more money than I ever did but less gear . A new amp or guitar won't make my play better. Yes I'm shopping for a Klon clone but I like to spend my limited amount of time playing and listening to other players.

If you post in this thread about gear you get responses. If you talk about players or certain performances you get nothing.

Mornin' BNP….

I've noticed that also so that's why I don't chime in here very much.
Personally, I'm not a 'gear head' nor do I care about the latest boutique gear.
I'm only interested in seeing one's musicianship on their original songs and/or performance uploads.
Even if I don't care for the genre I still encourage those to who want to write & record their own material.

But….that's just me.

A good weekend to all.

Carry on….

I like talking about players and performances but I’m very fixated on intense virtuosity. If it isn’t insanely chop heavy then I tend to lose interest. Unless it’s someone like David Gilmour or that woodwind player who played with Dave Brubeck on Take Five.

I’m just way too geeky when it comes to guitar music.

Song? What is this “song” you speak of? I know not of such things. I know only of 20 sec long clips of the hard parts of guitar solos played in an endless loop for all eternity.

Ha….I hear you.
There's nothing easy about song writing or getting it recorded.

Then, we have to have the courage to upload it for our peers to listen to and comment on.
I struggle with that process with every song I've uploaded.

But….I don't write pop pablum so I'll never have mass appeal and really don't care.
Hence, I'll always be a song writing bottom feeder.

I write songs (along with a couple of instrumentals) because it's creative therapy for me.
It's just what I do.

I used to be that way, thinking back it took the enjoyment away from playing the guitar somewhat. I got it away from playing for a bit and now I appreciate it much more and I'm not so critical of myself and other players.

There's different things I'll focus on when it comes to guitar but the main component is that it needs to be challenging. One of the other things I practice on guitar but rarely talk about is playing guitar and singing at the same time. I've gotten to a pretty good point of being able to play relatively complex things while being able to sing smoothly over them. I just prize skill and get bored easily. But a great chord progression and melody will go a long way with me if it's crafted well.

Singing and playing at the same time for me is hard, some people can do it without thought. I got ok with it not at. Chuck Shuldiner level but ok enough to fake it. My singing days are over now.
My main focus now is developing my own style. I've been playing a long time and I realize I will not be a famous guitar player like I always wanted to be. What I now want is if someone did hear or see me play say, "that guitar player was different". I don't give a fukk if they think I was good at this point anymore

I too have reached this conclusion, coming to terms that I'm not gonna be as virtuosic as I want to be but as long as I can jam with others and sound good who gives a fukk.

He's not super virtuosic but I always like what he plays and I always like his tone.

Interesting I only listened to the first track, I listen to the other one later. Jazz horn players are more interesting to me than Jazz guitarists.

I bought a Stewmac Ghost Drive pedal kit.

A supposed Klon klone. I'll post up how it sounds after I build it

Wish I was good at it. Soldering grounds to pots and trem claws is a messy looking affair when I try to do it. My last 3 builds I've gone with the EMG solderless kits and just soldered pigtails onto the pickup wires so I could just plug them into the pots. Probably the cheap soldering iron I have lol

A trem claw might need a little more heat. Once I learned how to properly tin the wire and solder iron tip it became easy

Even though that's how it's commonly done just like soldering ground wires to the back of pots, soldering a ground wire to a trem claw is a messy way to do it. Like you said use a hot iron and add some flux.

There's still a better way. Eye terminal cable lug crimped to the wire and screwed down is my preferred way. Use an uninsulated ring terminal that takes a 5mm stud so it will fit over the 4mm wood screw threads and use a crimping tool to crimp it to the ground wire.

For me it's no big deal to solder the ground but your way is a good way too. They also sell replacement claws with a ground screw on it

They do and I have one only I screw mine directly into the bridge.

Both ways work. I just figured I'd mention an alternative for those who might not know it can be done. I like keeping everything clean back there.

Checked out USA Select. I know we're a joke to you down here but charging that kind of dough for a bolt on neck guitar is crazy. There is no way it costs them more than a grand to make when most of the work is done with a CNC and staff doing sanding, paint, and assembly are paid close to minimum wage.
