We do have to draft a QB, we don't have to draft one at #2 overall. John Lynch is doing his job right now by basically saying all the QBs in this class are surefire studs.

The more and more I think about it our goal should be to improve the team as much as possible this year with the goal of finding our QB in 2018. Whether it's the draft or free agency.

Assuming Pats don't actually extend Jimmy Garoppolo or trade him this offseason(still think he gets moved) in free agency alone we're looking at Jimmy Garoppolo and Kirk Cousins as possible available guys. We know Shanahan is high on both. In the draft it could be one of the best QB drafts in some time.

The absolutely best thing that can happen for us is to watch Mitch Trubisky blow the roof off the combine. He's already started doing good things just by measuring in over 6'2 with decent hand size. There were rumors going around he'd measure in under 6'1. One thing he doesn't have to worry about.

Mitch is from Cleveland and has made it known he'd love to be their guy. If he can shine during the combine and his pro day and really interview well i hope it forces the Browns hand and Myles Garrett falls to us at #2 and we're able to land our QB next year.

I'd see if Patrick Mahomes is available in the second round this year or Nathan Peterman in the 3rd round. Hell see if one of the Watson/Kizer guys drops to our 2nd rounder. Just because we have no QBs under contract doesn't mean we should panic.

Let's be honest if we want to sign a few QBs we can. Schaub is more than likely going to come here. Whether he's a starter or not will be determined later. Honestly I don't want someone good enough to get us a ton of wins next year lol. It's sad to say but I really want one of those QBs in next years class.
Crazy we have no QB on the roster. I'd rather have Gabbert or Ponder then Schuab though. I know Schuab knows the system but that dude sucks donkey nuts.

I'm ok with our QB sucking next year

Actually Schaub would be a solid vet to have to help any young QB. Let's be honest one way or another we're going to have a young QB on the roster who can be helped by essentially a player coach in Schaub.

I would be absolutely shocked if we didn't draft a QB this year.

Assuming we don't go with QB in the first round here are the potential targets.

Patrick Mahomes - a better passer than Kaepernick, could end up being the best guy in this class but despite what he says he's not ready
Nathan Peterman - The Kirk Cousins of this class, probably could be a day one starter but limited physically to being a great QB
Davis Webb - Jared Goff the generic version. Actually got beat out by Mahomes at TT and took over the Cal job after Goff. Could turn into a solid starter but I don't see some of the hype on him.
Brad Kaaya - funny how he was considered one of the top QBs heading into this season. Dude COULD potentially turn into a decent QB but he's chit under pressure and I just don't see him shaking that Wouldn't touch him til the 4th round
Chad Kelly - would take a chance on him with our comp pick or later but not sure he's the type of personality we want on the team

Bunch of other developmental guys like Jerod Evans, Seth Russell, Cooper Rush, Mitch Leidner, etc…

It's also nice hearing Lynch say we should stay awake for free agency. Sounds like they're planning on bringing in some quality players. Hopefully they're smart about the contracts but get us some good talent.

Reports are we're one of the early favorites for Jeffrey.

Jeffrey and Hightower signings would be awesome.

If they do go QB I hope they trade down that #2 and I think they can get Kizer later in the 1st. I just don't like the idea of dismissing taking a QB next year because they want to give this years pick a chance to grow.

I want Hightower but i'm not huge on Jeffrey since we might not have a QB until next year.

Well the problem is if a low talent team with major needs at QB doesn't like who's there at #2 why would another team want someone so bad?

I certainly would like us to trade down but we'd need some team to fall in love with a prospect that doesn't excite us as much. Most likely it has to be a QB which is tough to believe we wouldn't need but sometimes teams don't agree on evaluations. I'm sure Cleveland may regret trading down last year with Wentz available but we'll see.

However if we do trade down we'd be getting that teams 2nd rounder at minimum. #2 overall is major value. Just look at what Philly gave up last year to move up for Wentz.

They got #2 overall and Cleveland's 4th round pick.
They gave up #8 overall, their 3rd and 4th rounders last year. First rounder this year and a second rounder next year.

That was to move up 6 spots.

The team i'm eye balling is Buffalo. I hope they fall in love with one of the QBs and see us, Chicago and the Jets picking ahead of them and Cleveland only a few spots behind with some great draft picks to move up ahead of them.

#2 for #10, Buffalo's 2nd round pick and a first next year seems like a great deal to me.

We can't even tank properly. I'm hoping some team a few spot down falls in love with Watson and gets desperate. Lynch might be bluffing with all his talk about how much he's loving this QB class.

What would it take to move up 1 spot? Barring injury and/or an Aldon like meltdown, he's going to be a problem from day one for the next decade.

I'd be happy to give #2 overall plus 3rd, 4th and Armstead to make it happen. They can even take the rights to Anthony Davis if he feels like playing in the future.

The QB drills aren't really a great indicator as the only top prospect to bomb at the combine was Cam Newton but here's the two things that stood out:

Watson is such an intriguing prospect, his footwork and general movement was so smooth.

If we're grading on arm strength and release… Mahomes is levels ahead of everyone else. If he's available in round 2, he's worth the flyer.

As much as I like Garrett I don't think he's worth trading up for. Best we can hope is Cleveland falls in love with one of the QBs enough to pass up on him or another team moves up for a QB ahead of us. I think odds of that are pretty slim though.

Garett in the 1st, QB in the 2nd/3rd and signing Jeffrey/Hightower would make me happy.

Wouldn't be the worst thing if Garett goes to the Browns, there's still plenty of defensive talent available plus he's not going to a rival or even a contender.

Yup…grand scheme getting a kid like Garrett makes us much better. Who knows what happens next year and who will be available but I can't help but think if we lost that game we could've ended up with Myles Garrett this year and one of Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen or Josh Allen next year and see that duo become a better version of Khalil Mack and Derek Carr for us for decade+.

I will say that as good as Garrett is, this is a terrific draft for pass rushers.

Garrett, Jonathan Allen, Tak McKinley, Solomon Thomas, Derek Barnett, Charles Harris, Carl Lawson, Haason Reddick, Tim Williams, Taco Charlton, TJ Watt, Derek Rivers, Jordan Willis, Demarcus Walker, Ryan Anderson

All of these dudes are round 1/2 prospects and I'm probably missing a few along with later rounders who will impress.

2011 was a studly draft as far as pass rushers and this one could be even better.

4 picks in the top 110, 6 in the top 150, this is the perfect time to assemble a strong front 7. I think the secondary can be decent if they don't have to cover a guy for 5+ seconds.

I don't think it means that much. May just want to see how the market shakes out. I mean let's be honest these guys were backups on a 2 win team. They obviously saw some good things in Kerley and re-signed him.

I just hope we don't jump the gun on a QB but free agent WRs will certainly need to know who may be throwing them the ball.

Not really surprised at all. I liked Harris and we can still resign him later on. I'm sure he is looking for more money though.

Looks like we're releasing Torrey Smith. Not sure how I feel about that. He wasn't a great fit but he was still talented but the contract was a bad one given his recent production.

Would've been nice if we could trade him but dude is a class act, guess we're giving him the favor of letting him out early so he can get in on the early rush in free agency.

Feels bad about that one… Given he was paid either way. He never got a chance to reach his potential. we save a lot of money by letting him go which I am fine with, I just hope they spend it on someone decent.

Now this is a bit surprising. He's a class act so I wish him the best. He was a poor fit to be our #1 WR and probably best that both sides moved on.

I expect more surprises.

Yeah I don't want to see us blindly spending money.

Ideally we bring in a couple of tier 1 guys then try to fill in some gaps and add veteran leadership with the lower end prospects.

Hopefully our front office/new coaching staff starts getting us better draft classes which in turn will allow us to keep our talent for much longer with all that cap space and allow us to add serious talent in free agency when we're closer to competing.

Unfortunately the bad thing is when the team sucks and in rebuilding mode you're not getting people in for cheap. You basically have to pay them way over value and then watch them sign and give the cliche "I want to be part of the process of getting this team back on track blah blah blah" speech at their media sessions.

While i'd like to get Alshon Jeffrey or Pryor on here like i said before the one guy i hope we open up the wallet for is Hightower. I'm ok saving most of the money for another year.
