The middle class is getting hollowed out and there will only be the rich and the working poor soon, what kind of society is that to live in?

You mad I am making $30 an hour as a security guard to do literally nothing for 12 hours a day? I shakes my head at you ruthless kunts, what a country to live in. You should aim to be more like your Scandinavian overlords.

This. It's fist them since their jobs aren't that hard, but sooner or later it's going to be all of us as automation technology advances. I suggest everyone to avoid such restaurants where robots start serving, don't support this way of life or we're all going to be replaced in a decade or two. I am studying engineering and I am starting to realize what kind of power does automation have and the direction technology is going in, and I must say, I don't like it even one bit. There are going to be huge issues soon if either automation becomes a normal everywhere or if people continue reproducing at this rate. Having this much people but fewer and fewer jobs due to robots, doesn't indicate anything good.

surgery will be automated with how well flexible automation and sensors research is going. That being said, you can absolutely still go to med school, become a surgeon, retire, and possibly die before its everywhere. One of my projects is related to it

That's because you're not looking far enough into the future. The dream is where the robots do all mundane tasks for us and we just sit back and enjoy. Expect the few who will still work and get paid more for it. Universal income is needed as someone said.

And it's up to us to get it to this point instead of leaving it so the 0.1% gets to fuk up the system with automation.

The universal income thing is communism based on robotic workers making all the products. An income like that would likely create a fairly flat society economically, meaning most people would be getting the same amount of money.

Do you REALLY think rich people will allow that to happen?

They won't because our society is based on people having varied amounts of money which creates greed and lust for products. It's called "commodity fetish" in communist theory. That means people want to own "Brand X" because it's more expensive, exclusive, and so on. You can't have that behavior, which is what drives consumerism, with a universal income. Rich people will not be able to get rich.

The game rich people will play is to keep people poor. Poor people are more easily broken and will do whatever rich people want, eventually.

There is a point where too much automation would necessitate a universal basic income, but purposefully avoiding automation is just creating jobs for the sake of creating jobs.
