Apparently you don't understand emergency response and how it works. That's not surprising considering it's the misc. You also see, the zoo and their emergency response team decides how to handle these situations. If they can dart/tranquilize, they'll do so. If they can't, they'll shoot. They are trained for this very reason. The mother didn't make any call, the professionals at the zoo did that. I understand you're upset and you're emotional but you're coming off as someone with some sort of disorder so you need to chill the fck out.

Yes. I agree with you mothers take their eyes of their children. I have done the same to my 8 year old son.
However, none of the times has it result in life or death choices of my son, nor has his mother been in that situation.

I feel that as a parent common sense dictiates you should be a little more careful in environments in which YOU cannot control. IE: traffic, zoos, nature, volcanoes.

On a second note, this specific incident isn't the zoos fault. But zoos in America in general.. Have you ever been to a zoo before? Most of the ones I've visited in Canada are like this, animals are usually 10-15 feet below the observation area and there's a fence about 4-4.5 feet tall which you could climb over if you intended to get into the enclosure. If you're making this argument it needs to be made against all zoos (I don't really disagree with you but this zoo is no different than many others and most likely isn't violating any laws/regulations with the set up they have)

A 4 year old should not be able to make it into gorilla enclosure, and yes, that applies to all zoos.
