Guys, he's going to do what he's going to do. He isn't going to take drastic steps, so this thread is really just for moral support at this point but, let's be clear, there is absolutely zero point zero percent chance he will come even close to 15% bodyfat by December 31, much less the 8-10% he'd need to get visible abs (I say 8-10% as opposed to 10-12% because my gut feeling here is that his abs are horribly untrained and underdeveloped).

If we like him as a poster, at this point we should be asking the mods to not go through with the requested perm should he fail.

I like Arn, he's a great poster, he's in supreme physical condition, but I think here he's so far removed from being in the position as the OP that he's not quite seeing the big picture. Someone skinny fat may need to take different measures than a well trained muscular athlete. Telling Ratfish he's doing great and on the way to his goal might just be doing more harm than good. Ratfish's 1-1/2" inch drop in his ribcage measurement aside, his gut looks no smaller, his muscles look even flatter and worse, nothing appears more defined and so on. It really just looks like he's burned through his glycogen stores, gotten flatter, lost a little bit of weight and a little bit of lean mass that he barely had to begin with.

My prediction: He lost 10lbs last month. I suspect a lot of that was just water weight, glycogen stores and weight that would/will quickly return after a couple high carb cheat meals. His weight loss will continue but at a much slower pace than last month. He will either power through and continue to make minor incremental gains OR he will cut back his calories even more out of frustration (or increase his time on the treadmill). If he does that, he's well on his way to frying his metabolism. There is another option, that he gets completely frustrated and has a big high processed carbs, sugary, fatty, chit cheat day or marathon. That will be devastating. In a calorie depleted state, eating a meal high in carbs and fats (whether it's burgers, pizza, ice cream whatever) will spike his insulin and send a massive wave of calories right into his fat cells. He'll also replenish a lot of the "lost" weight with a rush of carbs to his muscles and water retention.

None of those three options are good, but they get worse and worse.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

I appreciate your comments but you're misunderstanding me. I know exactly what OP is up against and I do not think his goal is achievable. I stated as much a few pages back.

If I was OP's coach, we'd be doing things differently but I'm not. I'm trying to help him and encourage him on the path he's chosen

Gotcha.

Out of curiosity, and out of due respect, not that Rat would listen to any advice you may give, but what would be your advice?

My guess: 1) dump this insane plan and make a realistic goal. 2) put on quality mass and focus on strength 3) Look to maybe first quarter 2019 to do a standard CICO diet to hopefully get leanish by Summer

?

I think the “abs are made in the kitchen” and “everyone has a six pack, you just need to lose fat to see them” people are really misguided sometimes. Yes, a good diet is part of having visible abs but for many people, (myself included), hard and consistant ab training is necessary to develop abs. Maybe for those with good ab genetics to begin with can get away with just relying on compounds and eating a few less carbs to get visible abs but for most other people that is simply not enough.

OP will most likely end up being a skinnier version of what his physique is now. Still no abs because they are not developed enough to show, at least not unless OP goes full starvation mode and gets down to like 120lbs. Nobody ever says you dont have to train chest or biceps in order for them to show so I don’t know why people take that stance when it comes to abs.

I would recommend OP trains seriously for a good 2 years. Not “cutting” or “bulking”, just lifting hard and eating enough to support muscle growth. Then he might have a chance at having the physique I think he is assuming he is going to have in less than a month but won’t. No hate btw, I’ve fallen into the same traps as OP.

Training weak points 7 days a week may not be the worst idea given what we know about frequency and hypertrophy, recovery being accounted for of course. At minimum they should be getting trained 2x a week for around a total of 8-15 sets. Start there and add volume/frequency if there is little to no improvement.

But once again, hypertrophy in most cases requires you to be in a hypercaloric state. So trying to lose a good amount of fat through caloric restriction AND improve a weak point is burning the candle at both ends.

Bump to see how OP is doing.

Also, with the deadhang chins... this is the same guy who measured his waist 1/2 foot above it and at his rib cage. Any claim he's making about chin ups might have the most honest and best intentions possible but that level of incompetence, coupled with a physique that looks like it would have a great amount of trouble getting 1/2 that number of chin ups, it makes me seriously doubt it.

you can always ride the bicycle, ensure only fat loss occurs,, you gain nice muslce through lifting and body doesn't lower TDEE through metabolic adaptation. Then you can eat as low calories as u want - even if it's all protein.

also aka the hollywood or bodybuilding diet
Weight Loss: Go carnivore or keto/low carb. Create calorie deficit. Buy packaged healthy meals if needed. Meat is good and heals, stop being lied to.
