This is totally bogus. Everyone I've ever known who owns an older (5-10+ year) BMW ends up with MAJOR issues. Usually electrical, but also often mechanical. Meanwhile, I know people driving 18 year old Lexus/Acura vehicles with basically all original parts and no major service issues.

The German stuff drives nice, but it's quirky AF and it's a pain in the butt. "Don't drive like an idiot and you'll be fine" is one of those lines that doesn't mean anything. It just assigns blame to the person who owns the car that keeps breaking down, even though it's probably an automatic with almost zero driver skill needed.
