This should be the general attitude: be the best version of yourself. What was the context of that person 'accusing' you of not being able to compete with a 20 year old IG photoshopper?

In general, men are treated as success machines (provide money, power, stability), and women are treated as sex machines (provide good looks and sex). Just the sad way the toxic society works instead of treating each individual as a person. Many people touched up on how it's easier for a woman to get fit than a man by media standards, since it's skinny ish women vs roided out guys. But then you add in photoshop, choosing the best pic out of 300, and a cake tonne of makeup, and the fact that being unattractive for a woman is more noticeable than for a man, and suddenly the is more pressure stacked on women.

IRL (not on the places like the misc) IME men's appearance is no where as scrutinized and spoken about as much women's appearance is.

On the misc, a woman's worth seems to hinge of her beauty (as well as age, and sexual partner no. level).

Anyone one remember when Elliot Hulse's wife was revealed? The misc and other places online, were ridiculing Elliot for not having a model looking partner because he was good looking, popular and making money.... Elliot basically said; "I find her attractive, and she's being by my side since I was broke, and we have the same parent values... So I'm not going to get another woman, simply because some you think she has no value because of her looks."

I'm not blaming this on men only, women are just as bad "Did you see what she was wearing?!", or calling attention to each other's weight, haircuts, etc. Basically other women causally scrutinize each other's appearance.

I agree with your GF that there is more pressure on women to care about their appearance, than on men. Miscers (who think they look like chit, unless they look like a male fitness model) are the exception IMO, the majority of men do not feel that insecure about their appearance.

The majority of men don't feel pressure to paint their faces everyday, in order to improve their appearance.
