In this thread we see the timeworn mistake of confusing schooling with education. Somehow ~3 years of extended highschool makes someone educated? Fuking lol if you completed a non-STEM degree and go around saying you're "Educated". You can get into most redundant University courses with a C average, ROFL.

Just LMAO if you think anything outside of a STEM degree is education. Most legit trades (electrical being an example), require you to go through a 4 year apprenticeship. This is basically a 4 year college degree for your trade of choice. Lets compare the usefulness of a generic business degree to a Journeyman Electricians skillset. Wonder who makes more coin?

A business degree can help a little or a lot, I don't know and really don't care. I'm not gonna pretend a degree from an elite business school doesn't matter. How many average joes start a business and fail? How many elite college educated start a business and fail? I don't know, it's up to the individual on whether they think that degree will help them in their field. In the end, if you do grow a big general contracting business you may very well hire college grads for the business side of things.

I think a lot of its practically. In the trades there is potential for some good money, and in general - a lot of the trades are probably more in demand than most college majors. After I got out of the Navy I finished a Masters in Accounting, and it still took me almost 2 years to actually find agoodjob. The bar keeps getting higher, and then there is also that conundrum of - everyone wants experience, but no one wants to give it to you.

Also, "education" is a rather vague and generic term imo. A lot of "educated" people are phucking morons with practically 0 critical thinking skills and a lot of professors are shyt. Additionally, these days if you want to learn something there are countless FREE and/or very inexpensive resources out there for virtually any topic.

I think his motivation behind debating this is he views himself as a generalist and probably resents people who are more specialized since society supposedly rewards them more. I think what's really going on is he has a superiority complex and subscribes to any form of reasoning that elevates him over people that are conventionally successful ie I understand theoretical fluid dynamics and some form of philosophy therefore I am superior to an employed specialized engineer who may not know either.
