Also he shouldn't have died based on the facts so far. Why not just comply? Human factors kick in and bad **** happens.
Not sure it sheds much light, but I'm local and they just said that the officer tried to detain Price (reason unclear) and that Price refused "in a non-threatening manner", which to me sounds like he said no and then started to walk away. Also said that Price "worked for the city" and it was "unclear if the two men knew each other or not".

Can't find a clip yet, but they had a little bit of video of Jonathan's father at a mic and the man couldn't speak for very long before breaking up. Said he raised his son "to do the right thing".

Really sad.

I saw verbiage in the Texas Rangers statement directly quoting Graham v. Conner. It has to do with the three below directly.

1. The severity of the crime at issue;
2. Whether the suspect poses an immediate threat to the safety of the officers or others; and
3. Whether he/she is actively resisting arrest or attempting to evade arrest by flight.

Rangers framed it in such a way that the use of force is the center of the investigation and whether he exceeded the scope of deadly force use in the state. It does not appear as though they are taking another route.

The problem with the use of force is that there is a human on the other side of the application. I'd like to see more facts and make a better analysis. Hopefully, justice is being served. There is no excuse to apply deadly force to a passive resister that is unarmed. This is looking to be the case.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/dfw.cbs...e-slaying/amp/

“Described as a “hometown hero”, “standup guy,” and “mentor who worked with children,” most who spoke out publicly about Price said they can’t see any reason why a police officer would shoot and kill him.”

“ The chief saw the video and told me he wasn’t happy with what he saw,” Merritt said.

The Texas Rangers are responsible for investigating the shooting. They sent CBS 11 News the following statement Monday night:

“At approximately 8:24 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2020, Wolfe City Police Officer Shaun Lucas responded to a disturbance call at the 100 block of Santa Fe Street for a possible fight in progress. Officer Lucas made contact with a man, later identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Price, who was reportedly involved in the disturbance.

Officer Lucas attempted to detain Price, who resisted in a non-threatening posture and began walking away. Officer Lucas deployed his TASER, followed by discharging his service weapon striking Price. EMS was notified and Price was transported to Hunt Regional Hospital, where he later died.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the actions of Officer Lucas were not objectionably reasonable. The Texas Rangers have charged Officer Lucas with the offense of Murder and booked him into the Hunt County Jail. This investigation is being conducted by the Texas Rangers, with the cooperation of the Wolfe City Police Department and the Hunt County District Attorney’s Office. No additional information is being released at this time.” “

Very sad situation. Sounds like murder. They need to train cops better. Non compliance is not an execution worthy event if the guy is just walking away. There are situations where I can see the cops point of view - suspect is not cooperating and maybe his intention is to get to a weapon. Not in this case though this is a murder. I think if you asked this guy if he meant to shoot and kill him it was a heat of the moment thing. I don’t think he set out that day to kill an unarmed man. That said in this case i cant give him the manslaughter a mistake was made pass. Guy is not a threat or armed and you executed him.

He was ignoring the commands of the officer?

He started walking away and brushed off a taser?

This all started and happened because he is a capn save a ho who refused to follow a police officer’s orders and resisted arrest.

This is the result of the blm antifa idiocy, and if police are being made impotent against blacks, who are now apparently allowed to do whatever they like, what will be the results down the line? What sort of functioning society allows this?

Not gonna let political climate or personal facts about this persons character cloud my judgment. Will await for the full facts of the case before imparting any sort of opinion.

weird af that horrible people like George Floyd are held up as martyrs and this guy, who seems like a pretty fine and normal person at the very least, gets relatively little media attention.

i'm not gonna get involved in this conversation, but im just gonna say when i first read the story i was on mobile and didn't see the image. read it.. didn't think about race. then i clicked on the image and he was black

i'm annoyed that this was made into another race issue; maybe more so that this was made about race with the facts presented.

there could be any # of reasons as to why they accidentally shot him or "murdered" him (even though it may have been murder it was prob not with intent)

seems pretty racist to me

They won't, he's on record talking about how he doesn't believe that white people are inherently racist.

It's unfortunate that he was shot, but he shouldn't have been trying to break up a fight, and he shouldn't have resisted. People need to mind their business. Let's hope the cop actually gets punished for this.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Gotdayum. Dude is getting roasted on social media.

"This is between MAGA, it has nothing to do with me. They killed their own."
"Black women: Stand Down and Stay Back."
"Stand back and stand by black queens let All Lives Matter handle this one."

^Those are just a few quotes of many I saw. Safe to say there will be minimal news coverage or BLM response.
