I really don't want to get it, but I can see the writing on the wall you know? Word on the street today is when they will announce you need it in order to continue working for the company, otherwise you will be terminated. I also think across the board we'll start to see increasingly annoying mandates to the point where eventually it will make your life near impossible to live without the vaccine. At some point you'd figure they'd have to stop, but I don't see the end in sight.
Meeting today is at lunch, so hold me brahs.

Good for you OP. Stand by your principles. I know your feels of being isolated, imagine living in Canada it's x1000.
To all the Americans, just take a look at other countries to see the abuse of power. My province is at 82% with one jab aged 12+. Now they're pressuring to have children under 12 vaccinated. First, herd immunity was if we hit 75%, now they want 90%, soon it'll be 100%. Provinces have passports and major banks, institutions, and cities now require vaccination.
To those that simply state "who cares just get the jab" do not have theforesightto see that your compliance is what makes this continue.

If the vaccine was proven to be safe and effective there wouldn't be any need for a mandate. People would be lining up to get it and paying for it too. If the vaccine protects people that are vaccinated + everyone has had plenty of time to get a free vaccination = f*ck off.
Many people struggle with alcoholism and drunkeness and alcoholism do a lot of damage to individuals and to society as a whole. There has even been a good amount of research around a potential genetic link re:vulnerability to alcoholism.
But we still have alcohol available in most places for whoever wants to purchase and consume it. We don't ban alcohol because "some people" may be damaged by it or can't deal with it. We assume that adult humans can assess their own situation and make their own choices.
You can't completely NERF reality to provide some kind of complete protection for all humans.

No chit they're going to keep going farther and farther - it's only going to stop when people rise up to stop it. Seriously, think about it and look to places like Australia. Just a year ago people thought this would all "be over" once the vaccines were out but the goal posts keep moving every month basically. First lockdowns, then masks, then "Once vaccinated...", then "once 70% vaccinated", etc.
...
The change starts with people like you doing something, even if it's small. You just said in your post you "really don't want to get it". So DON'T. Be part of the solution, not the problem.

im going to get my first jab of pfizer today. literally millions of people have this chit and are fine.
i had covid in april, mild case..nbd.
my brother, 31 years old, healthy, no underlying conditions, ended up in the hospital for 3 months... yes 12 weeks. went from 240lb to 180lb at 6ft 2. legs looked like he just got out of auschwitz. hes one of the lucky ones because hes out and doesnt need oxygen.
yea the death rate is 1% or whatever but if you get hit with that 1% your life is changed forever.
all that being said.... i dont think we should be forcing people to get it

To those who said to let them fire her instead, that is what we're doing. She is a "travel nurse" doing a local assignment. So the hospital instituted the policy. Her travel staffing agency said that the hospital needs her to be vaccinated by Sept. 6th or they are severing the contract. She told the agency that's fine, and she'll work until her last scheduled day before the 6th, which is the 5th. Because she doesn't actually work for the hospital, there is no possibility of severance or anything like that.
To the few people who said "Have fun being homeless", or some variety of that, you clearly didn't read the OP. We have enough cash to live for 3+ years without either of us getting a job. If we absolutely needed to dig into our retirement accounts because for some reason over the next 3 years we couldn't find a way to make money, then our retirement accounts will take us another 12 to 15 years at least. So, I appreciate the concern, but we'll be okay. We've made a series of really good financial decisions over the last 10 years which have seemingly all led up to allowing us to choose personal freedom in this instance. Choosing to buy the 2004 Honda Accord for $3k when I could have bough the new Audi, Buying a 200k house when we could have easily afforded the 500k one, are just a few of the great decisions we've made. I have absolute 0 concern that we'll be just fine.
To be completely honest it feels liberating. I'm excited for my wife to see what her next phase of life is. She's been burned out from the hospital setting for a long time now. She used to be a staff nurse, and the reason she switched to traveling was she was hoping it would bring back the spark to and make her excited again about nursing. While we enjoyed the actual travelling part of it, the nursing part was the same, and often times worse. I'm very excited to see what the future holds for her.

What that's going to be? Who knows. Will she make more money than she will in nursing? Highly unlikely, at least for the next 5+ years. Will a lot of our life goals be pushed back or altered completely? Absolutely. Having her high(ish) income as a nurse was a significant factor in us being able to ultimately live the life we wanted to while also allowing me the flexibility to find a career that I enjoyed after leaving a career that was literally killing me. This is a game changer for our future, there is no doubt about that. I'm just saying that maybe it will be a blessing in disguise for her and for us to be forced into pursuing something different than what we had originally set out to pursue.

You don't trust nature and natural antibodies? They most likely last much longer than the vacc ones anyway. Combining your natural immunity plus this rando vacc your rate of survival just went from 0.0001% to 0.00001%. Congrats!! (I don't care if you get it or not just a really odd conclusion to make imo)

well boys...
talked on the phone with my clinical director. doesnt look good for me since these hospitals are considering students as guests and not employees.
sigh... i will try to delay as long as possible. it is really insane how living in a chithole state like IL is like living in a totally different country compared to TX.
