7 days sober boyos, I'm gonna keep going but I have a family party on Sunday. I have the type of family members that will grab a beer and open it for you, pushing you to drink. Gonna be tricky to navigate.

Never had any legal issues, relationships ruined, work affected, etc. I just realized one day that alcohol didn't do anything to better my life, and would only do more harm in the long run. Plus I partied enough as a teen and well past the legal drinking age lol. I love being sober, I love never feeling like chit the next day, I love no worrying about "awfuk what did I do last night? and do I need to apologize?" I love knowing that my body will stay healthier longer (not to mention keeping them wrinkles away as much as possible).

I saved this post the day I decided to quit drinking, and it was very helpful to me during the initial bouts of temptation, and I hope other find it helpful/inspirational/cool/whatever as well

This could be my story too. I sufferd no consequences. It never gets better and people around me were dropping like flies from the partying lifestyle. I wasn't partying by any stretch of the imagination, but alcohol is nothing but poison. Being sober is amazing and I wish I'd done it sooner. Since quitting every single area of my life has improved. Every single one, it's unreal.

Same here brah, no lie. Some people at work came out positive so I may have it but since i got it January i'm still functional. About to do a chest workout though, can't be lazy if it's not really that bad. (for me at least)

Stay strong brahs, before you know it you won't even think about drinking/smoking

Best part for me is all that money I have saved in place of smoking, bought a new phone, a boxing bag stand and a punching bag. Feels good man

I'm sorry to hear about your injury getting worse and subsequently relapsing (I assume the injury played some role in that). Well, hopefully you're able to get up again and get back into that fight. I strongly believe that we do not lose until we give up and stop trying.

I wish you the best of luck! Hopefully they can be cool about it and not push it. And congrats on one week!

I feel the same. And I try not to have regrets; at least we are being sober now instead of even later or never.

Uh oh, hopefully you don't get it! Or sick in general! And lol yes, it's ridiculous the amount of money and time we spend on substances.

Hey thanks for asking. I’m getting pretty close to 100%, but still have lingering congestion and fatigue. I’m glad to hear that you did not get fully sick!

I can relate and I’m sure others can to not imagining a life of sobriety/recovery back in their using days. Now I look back and wonder why the **** I didn’t peruse recovery earlier lol.

currently at around 520 days sober, don't even think about it anymore tbh although I do find myself struggling with the social impact of not drinking. It feels like this culture is centred around going out and drinking, that if you don't partake in it you are kinda lost :/

Thanks man! Good to know that you're recovering. Get that vitamin C and good foods in

Feels. Imagine all the productivity that was to be done if started earlier? But that's the beauty of it, a full blank canvas ahead of us for us to create memories and achieve goals

Big ups for keeping that up, I know in the beginning it was hard. I am the same way, haven't looked back at all, don't miss it and don't plan on partaking in the future.

Fell into the "after-work drinks and then keep doing it at home" trap last night. Had 3 at the bar, 6 little cans at home (equivalent of about 3.5 pints) and then ordered in 8 pints. I at least had the "self-control" to not finish them all off, 2 of the drinks are still in their uncracked cans, but it wound up being about 10.5 pints. Last week believe I had 12.

On the plus side, I managed to go the entire working week without a single fast food delivery. That's genuinely the first time in the last 2 years I've gone 5 days without ordering in. Getting myself a burger and some wings today, but goal for next week is to not order in at all; have a work function in the week where we're at a club, plan will be to leave early and/or stagger my alcoholic drinks with water/soft drinks.

Also opened up a Vanguard account this week and arranged for monthly deposits into it. Here's hoping it pays off in 5-10 years!

Yeah I find it incredibly helpful to not get stuck in the “what ifs” since it’s not productive and oftentimes makes me feel ****ty about what I could have done differently, like not losing my nursing license. But I can’t change the past, only learn from it and look towards the future! Better to implement change now instead of never. I also find that practicing mindfulness is helpful with my recovery and my mental health.

Hell yeah, that’s good that you are recognizing the efforts you’ve been making. I definitely could say that I had an addiction to ordering food delivery, so I know that struggle. Hard to not just get drunk and high AF at home and then order some tasty ass food. Hella expensive and not worth it to make it a daily thing. It does make for a nice reward every now and then. Just keep putting in that effort and giving yourself credit for the victories (however small) that you achieve everyday!

And as for myself, today has been a pretty good day. We had a bee guy move into our sober living house and he seems pretty cool. Almost at 100% not sick, so I grabbed some lunch at my local recovery cafe and then crushed a workout. Now walking to the grocery store for some goodies.

I did drink today, but I didn't get drunk. I was 11 days sober. Went to the family party and was instantly handed a beer. I nursed that thing for an hour and a half before they got wise and opened me up another. I drank 2 beers.

When I drink I hit the bottle hard and today I felt fine just sipping on my beer with everyone else, didn't feel the need to chug one after another. Shots were available but didn't partake. 2 beers isn't enough to get drunk so am I technically still sober? Or should I restart my count?

I wish I hadn't drank any alcohol at all to be honest. I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't say no. I avoided the "I don't want to drink anymore" conversation with my family.

Hey thanks for the update! And while it sounds like you’d like to not drink at all, limiting yourself to two beers in an environment where drinking is going on (and maybe even pushed upon you), is pretty solid! I am more of a believer that recovery can be interpreted in many ways to different people, as long as it fits in your goal of sobriety/recovery. I personally wouldn’t count myself as still sober after even one drink. I like what I’ve heard in SMART Recovery; you can view your sobriety as a total of clean days since actively working on recovery. It doesn’t have to be this long ass streak (although I do both, it helps that I’m on probation lol).

If you really want to remain completely sober, you are going to have to start being able to draw boundaries with drinking and be able to firmly say no. You don’t have to even explain yourself; if they are true friends and family, a simple “no thanks, I don’t feel like drinking today” should be a complete conversation. Now granted, this is much easier said than done. But definitely a necessary ability during times like these! Either way, nice work on getting through it without getting wasted! It’s always a work in progress, you know?

Congrats on getting past the one month mark and then some! Is your ultimate goal complete sobriety? It doesn't have to be purely black or white (a cognitive distortion), which I am guilty of at many times lol. If you feel that your usage of edibles is not problematic, then I feel it's okay to claim sobriety with a distinction of everything but weed. However, that can be a dangerous trap that I've fallen into many times. Substitution can be a bitch and there have been many times where I stopped one main problematic substance by using another "less problematic" substance, which eventually became just as problematic lol. So, I think it's helpful to sit down and really think of your goals and intentions (specifically to recovery, but also applicable to life in general) and also ask yourself if your current/planned behaviors fall in line with your goals, values, and beliefs. For me, I absolutely require complete sobriety and recovery because I am the type to use anything in excess and to the point of causing disruption in my life. But there are others in recovery who still occasionally smoke weed or etc; I believe that as long as you are achieving your idea of recovery, then do that. It might not fall in line with how others define recovery, but it's your life and your choices.

Also, I was thinking and just wanted to throw this out there:

Is there anyone that would be interested in a virtual recovery meeting for miscers and/or a group chat type of thing? The meeting would be just general discussion and kind of a check-in. Not 12 steps or anything like that (although that could be brought up in discussion). Let me know and I can set something up to where we can chat on our own accord or virtually meet once or a few times a week.

That would be cool! Discord works well for things like this. I'd be up for it.

Alright, thank you for letting me know. Hopefully we can get a few more interested replies. I’ll work on setting something up tomorrow.

Here’s a cool video I am watching, lots of good suggestions in this.

7 days sober here. Kinda miss hanging out with my bar buddies and just wasting a few hours down at the bar. Feels good to wake up not hungover and getting better sleep though.

Congrats on the seven days! Yeah, it can be challenging to be sober when you did activities while drinking and/or using, especially with other people! I suggest trying to find people who are in recovery themselves or at least people who can be supportive of your recovery and build new relationships with them!

And here is the Misc Recovery Discord link: https://discord.gg/fxetDRDW

Let me know if it works, I have it set as members only. I'm not going to enforce many rules. I only ask that we treat each other respectfully whether in agreement or disagreement. Any disrespectful behavior will likely lead to being banned. I want this to be a safe and supportive environment where everyone can check in, talk about their recovery, or just shoot the ****.

Well I'm gonna guess the RR is redraider. It looks like it's set up that I need to approve people. So, I'll be checking frequently and approving the invites.

Ya then I accidentally turned on voice and I panicked and closed it. My autism is about to really shine, looking forward to this!

Lol awesome, already nice talking to you on there! I look forward to others joining! Even if it’s just to post every once in a while. I’m gonna set it up so that you can read old messages. Right now it’s a 24 hour archive, but I might do longer.

I fell off the workout horse for a while during the pandemic but I'm gonna go back to the gym and use that as another factor to keep my sobriety in check.

Went 6am Tuesday for an hour. Gonna go again Thursday. Thinking of doing alternating weeks of 2 days A week, 3 days B week for a month as I get back into the routine. Also I don't like waking up at 6am

That’s a phenomenal idea! I really believe that exercise is a great way to improve one’s health and therefore improve their life. Weight lifting has certainly helped me with my depression and anxiety as well as helping me in my recovery. And starting slow is another great idea. While it is noble and commendable to want to jump into it full force, I don’t think that zeal is beneficial in the longer term. I tend to end up doing too much and then I don’t do **** lol. So I’ve been slowly incorporating exercise and other improvements slowly and gradually. I’ve been able to be consistent with doing it and I’ve slowly been doing more and more.

And happy hump day everyone! Here’s a little clip that makes me lol

Not sure if there are any readers here, but I've heard tremendous things about this book. I actually picked it up early in my journey, but ended up sending it to a friend that was struggling with alcohol.

Hmm interesting, I'll have to check that out! I've never heard of it. And welcome to the Discord chat group!

I hope everyone is doing well and chugging along in their recovery. I just graduated IOP today and now moving down to just outpatient which is once a week!
