In a small bump of this thread. Despite some of the MISC predictions, daughter doing quite well in school. Besides having take a sociology course (required for her nursing major), and the 'blue hairs" she has to deal with, it has been going well.
She has a great group of girlfriends, and she recently started 'dating' one of the guys she really liked from when she first got there. She just did not want to 'rush into' anything. But he has proven to be a very nice kid.
On a funny note, our daughter tells us pretty much everything. (even some things at times we really dont want to hear). She calls me up and asks me advice on taking an edible. She has never smoked pot. Just hates smoking in general. She enjoys drinking and we have always let he drink even at home, so for her it is 'no big deal'. I told her the edibles wont hurt her, but you have to be careful what you taking and be around your friends. Start small. Well the first time, she said she felt nothing, but slept great. The next night, guess she found the right amount and was telling us how her abs hurt from laughing so hard all night.
I love that our daughter includes us in her life. I would NEVER have told my parents anything. We still talk or txt with her daily. Life is good. And she got her first mid-term grades. Not doing to badly.... Great fun/work balance. Life is good.

I never had an edible until about a month ago. Smoked plenty of pot in my days. Mostly in college. After fitness, I never did because I cant control what I eat. Anyway at our weekly poker games a buddy brought back a bunch of stuff from a recent trip to colorado. I figured I would try it. WOW...I probably should have gone light at first. When I took it, I was $1100 up in the game. Within 3 hours I lost all that and another k on top. I am a pretty good and diciplined poker player and except for the occasional bad beat, that is the most I have ever lost in one of our games. Note to self....dont take edibles and play poker!

Yep sociology was the worst class I’ve ever taken. Literally half the class was black and the whole class was about giving them a victim mentality where racism is the reason why they all can’t achieve anything. Meanwhile my best friend is Asian and his parents came over not able to even speak English and they both got masters degrees in computer science through hard work and own their own homes etc. Fking ridiculous but these people say it’s racism keeping them down and ignore their advantages like affirmative action etc that will help A LOT if they just try at all. Ducking pathetic.

She has plans for financial freedom outside whatever her 9-5 is. We have already started her down the path. She will start buying properties once she has her first job. She already has 2 years of established credit. She is a smart kid and VERY hard working. She worked 30 hours a week her Sr year of highschool and has almost 20k of her own money saved. Driven kid, and very smart. Plus as parents, we have all we need, and I would hope to help my kids start their lives with more than what I had. I moved out with my clothes in garbage bag and everything I owned in a 15 year old pickup truck that I bought with summer working construction. My mom was great, but could not afford to give us a head start in life. What she gave me was way more than that though. Hope to give my kids a little more.
She really knows what she wants out of life. I am happy for her. I hope that she finds a boy deserving of the quality of person she is and the mother that I know she will be. Tough world these days, but I know whoever she chooses to be with will have to be quite a person. She is a smart girl and will figure it out. Time for her to be young now and enjoy the experiences that life will bring her.

Teachers in general are part of the 'do nothing, done nothing' part of our society. They are essential in some parts, but higher education has become nothing but big business.
I also feel that unless you are going for a specific course of study, that college is a waste of money. Liberal arts degrees are not qualifying you to do much of anything other than be saddled with student loan payments if your parents dont write the check. Many companies (especially tech) realize that 4 year degrees as a prerequisite are not a great indicator of employee potential.
For her chosen path, a degree is essential. Once she gets out of first year, she will be in major focused courses only. As a incoming frosh first semester they put them in 2 200 level courses to 'weed out' people. 200level bio and 200 level statistics. They weed out about 90% of people pursuing the nursing major first semester. Anything less than A's will not even get you looked at. Overall, they cut 93% of the people trying to get in the program. It is a very competitive program as it is one of the best in the county.
It is her choice. She could have certainly chose an easier path and easier program, but she does not do anything 1/2 way and felt she could do it.
