Ok but it is 2 different worlds. German/Italy/Irish/English/Scandinavian/Russian/Poland people etc when they all came over to the USA may not have spoken the same language....but they shared similar cultures/religion/land mass/food/skin color. Yes, they were discriminated against for multiple generations, but they became just as American as me (you remain to be seen). All the rest is a bunch of BS, times have changed for everyone - not just the evil immigrants.

(1) Yes, yes, it did. You're completely ignorant of American history if you think otherwise.

(2) We didn't do that when they immigrated - and I think it's a good thing we do - however we should be pushing the melting pot idea again more. But the things is they will assimilate - just like the evil Italians or the Irish *iggers, or any other group hated on by the group that got here slightly before them.

I have a lot of friends from Hispanic backgrounds and they are just as American as me.

My wife is of Chinese descent as well. Actually Taiwanese. Her parents immigrated to the US when she was 4. And I can tell you that they have nothing....absolutely NOTHING in common with the US as I grew up and its heritage. But they try.

Don't get me wrong. Her parents have done an amazing job raising her and making a success of themselves. In fact they are very successful. But they know nothing deep down other than what they learned here of traditional American culture.

My wife does. She speaks English with no accent. Knows everything about America that I do...for the most part. She still does not know a lot about the midwestern middle class as she grew up in CA. But she is very very American.

The difference between her and her family and all of the illegals that you are defending?

They came here legally.

They learned English. Or at least try. They understand it.

They work hard.

They asked for no handouts.

They embraced American culture. In fact the mom loves Trump haha. Celebrates all the traditional American holidays even though she can barely speak English and the dad can't speak really any.

But they try.

The problem is most immigrants that do come here?

Do none of that. But want us white people to change to their ways.

Show me one state with 40% Italian speakers or GTFO.

(BTW, to answer the question - there is none. In New York and New Jersey, roughly 0.5% of the population are Native Italian speakers. On the other hand, Spanish is GROWING at a rapid pace since the 1960s. They're not assimilating).

Italian-Americans know close to zero Italian. It’s crazy. My grandfather was born in Sicily, he came over after WWII around age 12, one of the last waves of Italian immigration to New York. He immediately renounced his Italian citizenship and for the rest of his life corrected anyone who called him Italian. That man was an American. He even refused to teach my dad the Italian language. I’m kinda rustled about it now because I only know a few words but at the end of the day that’s the story of my family. We assimilated and put in every effort to do so.

I’m not anti-immigration at all, but I’ve been to neighborhoods down South where you drive through and every sign is in Spanish, every business only caters to Spanish-speaking customers and English is not even understood. Not acceptable IMO. We don’t have that where I’m from so it was a weird thing to experience inside U.S. borders.

Right? Some enclaves here and there are OK. Some cultural stuff is OK (restaurants, stores, etc. etc.). But they go far beyond that. They straight up are not assimilating and it's getting worse.

When someone tells me the Mexicans are assimilating, I know right then there neighborhood's demographics are full blown Martha's Vineyard status.

Chit I just went to Subway for breakfast and their advertisements areonlyin Spanish.

Strongly agree man. I don’t understand why some of the Mexican immigrants refuse to assimilate. I grew up with a lot of Puerto Ricans and even the FOB ones were all bilingual, knew American cultural norms and so forth. Being a territory helps, but then you also have Cubans in Florida who do the same. They’re proud of their heritage and celebrate their culture, but they assimilate. Parts of Texas and California are like you said completely different. Nobody wants to be an American. They just want to live here.

And the thing is I actually enjoy diversity. That’s where I differ with a lot of conservatives. I see the value in it. There are hard working, intelligent people of literally every ethnic background who help keep this country running and we can all learn from each other. I think it’s a beautiful thing that we live in a country where you can get authentic Vietnamese food, walk into a Hindu temple and listen to Latin Jazz all on the same block. I am pro-melting pot. But it should be a drip, not a pour. We need strong borders and to hold immigrants to a certain standard, making sure they take an effort to assimilate.

This bullchit in New York where they’re giving migrants Xbox consoles and free hotel rooms is infuriating. If Hochul ships them Upstate it’s going to be a fkin disaster.
