In the Netherlands my attitude towards the homeless is a bit different though. There are so many support systems for them that it's almost impossible to end up in a situation where you have to sleep on the streets. Have bought food for some before but my attitude towards them is definitely a bit more negative.

I think it's a good lesson that you need to work in order to eat, but I wouldn't phrase it as "deserve". Kid might develop the attitude that the richer you are, the more you inherently deserve it. And that it makes you a better person. That would also be a false understanding of the world.

everyone is different. I got sick a few years ago and had to quit working for example.
If I didn't meet my gf, I don't know what would have happened cuz sht was fukd.
And other ppl just can't find work. Haven't searched for a while but like 1000 ppl are applying for random cashier jobs i'm sure
I don't even agree with giving them money either but the way she talked about men like that is the problem.

I had a bit of a mental breakdown maybe 10 years ago, stopped working and ended up going to a homeless shelter to live, I bummed for money a lot, I had no need for the money because there were places everywhere that gave out free meals, I used the money to buy Mcdonalds or buy tobacco, some people would call me lazy or yell at me to get a job and some even took money out of my cup (or whatever I happened to be using to get money) while I was sitting directly behind it, like they felt some kinda power surge because I was homeless and they weren't. The amount of homeless people I met that were legitimate lazy bums was staggering, a lot of them wanted to live the bum life bumming for money because it was easier than working, some of them did have mental illnesses and couldn't care for themselves though.

The disappointment I'd have is not that the wife chose not to have mercy, BUT to discourage the little one of giving mercy.
It is our responsibility to teach our children these things. There are volunteer groups that create bags for homeless. They include toothbrushes, soap, socks, other knick-knacks that help those who are homeless. We would then distribute them among the homeless. They were grateful. Take your kid to one.
When I had my kids, we did that through our local girl scout troop.

Not sure which situation I'd prefer.I had a bit of a mental breakdown maybe 10 years ago, stopped working and ended up going to a homeless shelter to live, I bummed for money a lot, I had no need for the money because there were places everywhere that gave out free meals, I used the money to buy Mcdonalds or buy tobacco, some people would call me lazy or yell at me to get a job and some even took money out of my cup (or whatever I happened to be using to get money) while I was sitting directly behind it, like they felt some kinda power surge because I was homeless and they weren't. The amount of homeless people I met that were legitimate lazy bums was staggering, a lot of them wanted to live the bum life bumming for money because it was easier than working, some of them did have mental illnesses and couldn't care for themselves though.
