It's illegal to misrepresent yourself (i.e., lie) to a bank or insurance company. It's called bank fraud if you lie to a bank, and insurance fraud if you lie to an insurance company. This is told to you both verbally and in writing before you sign. What are you asserting the bank did was illegal?
