Have you tried it yet? How is it? I've looked at those bike pedal things you can do at a desk. It would be great to have something like that and a desk treadmill since I have an adjustable height desk at home.

Dear diary

Not a good weekend for me. Went way over calories for 3 days. Oh well back to the grind. A few days of being on target should wash it all away. Problem is I’m in Arizona this weekend then leaving for Japan/bangkok the weeek after and fat chance I don’t eat myself silly there.

I never even thought of those contraptions for my desk. I get about 8000 steps per day just walking to and from my office and what I do during the day. Getting more would help a lot. Might be time to look on Amazon.

What did that look like? Will be living vicariously through your indulgence lol. It's really painful today for some reason. Feels like literal starvation.

I bought some tri-tip yesterday and went over my calories goal of 2,000, I ate slightly over 2,500 calories.

Weird thing is, this morning I hit a record low of 261.6 pounds, lowest I’ve weighed in five years. My theory when this type of thing happens is I needed a re-feed day to boost my metabolism.

Ha yeah. Zero chance I was going to stay within calories going home and seeing my old high school buddies. It was just booze, a tri tip sandwich, pizza, and cheese sticks that are unique from a hole in the wall pizza joint that I went to back in high school. They're some thick sticks and in no way good for you. But damn they're delicious.

Tri tip was definitely part of my bad weekend. I'm yet to find a good tri tip sandwich outside of California so I grab one every time I go home. The portion is smaller now though which is annoying.

When I go over 2,000 calories, it happens rarely, never two or three days in a row. That might be why I lost weight when I went over.

If I’m home I’m good about keeping the overages minimal and only to one day. It’s when I travel which is unfortunately all the time that I struggle and I try for the second best thing which is being as active as possible. It’s why I’ve been bubbling at the same weight for so long.

I would never judge anyone for indulging, on the weekend of March 10th I was visiting relatives in Fort Bragg and went crazy at two different restaurants, so I’m no Saint either.

It's good, i wish i got it a while back, since before i got the desk/pad combo i would always have to go outside of my apartment and walk around at a neighborhood or park, or go downstairs to my apartment's minimalist gym to talk on the noisy treadmill.

Going by my apple watch my TDEE is fairly similar to most calculators, at least on non gym days

I used to but it’s too pricey. I switched to loseit and paid like $50 for a lifetime membership. The idea behind macro factor is good if you can consistently log.

Same here but in the market for a desk. Which did you pick up?

It’s hard getting 10-12k . Feeling like I’m constantly on the treadmill or trying to walk extra. Only pick up about 5-6k steps at work if that

^ Glad to read how hard everyone is working! Seems like lots of progress is being made, so congrats to all of you.

Things on my end are moving along consistently. I'm nearly a month in and dropped 4-6 pounds depending on my water retention. There's this ironic phenomenon happening in that I'm the busiest I've ever been and really stretched thin, which makes cutting that much more difficult but also simultaneously smoother in a way as time just flies and I don't have much time to sit around focusing on my hunger. It's crazy that it's almost been a month, which means I'm 1/3 of the way through given that I made a deal with myself to do 3 months.

Cheat meals have been more modest than they've ever been. I used to take a break on Fridays and indulge a bit throughout the day. Now, I just stick to my early afternoon meals and have 1 cheat meal in the evening. Last weekend it was homemade pizza and cake. This week I'm thinking of making tacos, and that's it.

Running was getting too damaging on the knees/tendons so i switched up the cardio to stationary bike. Damn what a sweet little ride, should've been on this years ago. Bio data right there too, easy tracking.

5x/week 20-25 mins at 125-135HR followed by a 1 minutes full resistance sprint where HR hits 175+, then quick cool down.
Soreness from deadlifts/squats recovers faster than running and I can be in full control of heart rate.

Average weekly weigh ins down a pound since switching over and upping frequency an extra day.

For anyone needing motivation or looking to learn more, check out parts 1-6 of Andy galpin on Huberman's podcast from Jan 2023 about every single possible thing health/fitness related. Its dense, but its a master piece, srs.

Strangely enough my lifts are still progressing. Almost back to 225 bench and I haven’t done that in 3 years since I had a hospital stay. That and some other unrelated health issues kept me out of the gym a lot for 2 years so I lost a lot of strength. Looks like I was out long enough to be able to recomp while still slowly losing weight.

I enjoy hiking myself. Honestly a lot more than the gym. As I get older I find myself doing non gym exercise more. I set a goal to hike 500 miles last year and fell quite a bit short but with the weather being trash 9 months out of the year it was hard to travel enough to warm and sunny places to hike. Still got quite a few good ones in. 3-5 miles is my sweet spot with some incline to get the heart rate going.

I just got one from Flexispot, i think it was the E2 pro? I got it after browsing the subreddit for standing desks, and after finding a good deal

yeah and ****meters/fitbits/watches can be inaccurate sometimes. for wrist-worn devices, just the act of moving your hand or arm around raises steps, for example if you were at your desk.

****meters sometimes don't pick up steps if you walk too slow. my steps on the walking pad didnt register if i walked at 1 mph

edit: why is p.edometer censored?

I bought some wrist straps, and they came in yesterday. I used them today while doing bent over dumbbell rows, and I did 10 more reps during the first set than my last recorded record high of that Exercise.

I was 261.2 pounds this morning, which is my lowest in about five years. Hopefully I’ll be in the 250s soon!

nice progress considering you are pretty lean already. Does anyone follow Mike Isratel? He recommends eating maintenance after you cut for as long as you cut. As someone who has yo-yo'd from 30+ to 15% over the years I'm gonna try it out. Seems like all my cuts once I get at or slightly below the 15% mark I lose all sensibility and body goes into binge/instinct mode and crashing. Possibly because I had to cut for 6-7 months usually started at a high body fat %. He also recommends doing no more than 3 months of cutting at a time.

I do this myself. I have to admit, I don't track so religiously outside cuts anymore. I consider myself at least 'semi-retired' from the whole year-round grind of cut/bulk. I've had great success in the past 5 years just taking it easy basically June-February, eating a nutrient-dense diet, cheat once in a while, and overall focusing on a healthy lifestyle, with a 3-4 month cut in the winter to bring myself down year by year. It's unconventional but it works quite well. This year, I'm poised to finish this cut leaner than I've ever been in my life. I managed to put on only 4-5 pounds since the end of my last cut by trying to eat around what I believe is my maintenance.

What's a full day of eating looking like for people here who are cutting? For myself, a typical day would look something like this:

11am: red/black bean chilli with a bit of lean meat
3pm: omelette with cheese

Every day for the last few days has been a record low for me as far as the past five years are concerned:

Monday, 3/18/24 262.2
Tuesday, 3/19/24 261.6
Wednesday, 3/20/24 261.2
Thursday, 3/21/24 260.4

I’m almost about to hit the 250s!

I wanted to share what I’ve been eating for breakfast and lunch every day, because I think they are crucial variables in my success with my weight loss goals:

Breakfast

One cup Quaker Oats (measured dry, before cooking)

After the oatmeal is cooked, I add one cup of plain non-fat Greek yogurt, one teaspoon of cinnamon, and one scoop of flavored whey protein powder. You can get 48 ounce canisters of Greek yogurt at Costco in the refrigerated section for a decent price.

Lunch

After training with weights, I eat:

One can of Del Monte or Green Giant sweet peas, cooked and drained. I prefer Del Monte, but Green Giant is cheaper.

Two large hardboiled whole eggs.

Three large hardboiled egg whites, I throw the yolks away.

Two toasted slices of Dave’s killer bread. I like to cut each whole egg in half and put it in the bread, so they’re like tacos.

I think eating hardboiled eggs really helped me, because there is healthy cholesterol in the yolks, and cholesterol is a precursor to testosterone.

I’ve had a lot of success with weight loss eating like this, if you try it out and it works for you, report back and let the group know how you did.

6pm: lean meat, complex carb, green (ex: grilled chicken breast, sweet potato, broccoli)
7pm: protein pudding (chocolate whey protein, cocoa powder, cinnamon, greek yogurt, dark chocolate)
