I have a fancy one but prefer the simple no frills Nikon MC30A however Nikon had to be difficult and not use a 10 pin connector on the D750 which rules that out.

If you're not using the hot shoe for a bubble level then try one of those third party wireless remotes.

Here you go. $35. Amazon . B&H .

If I'm shooting in low light <30 seconds then I don't even bother with a remote and bulb mode. I enable a 3 second delay on the shutter button. I do a lot of night photography and for me it's one less thing to worry about losing in the dark or blowing away in the wind.

I've said it before but nothing beats waiting for beautiful light.

I was in NZ last week and returned to locations several times before getting lucky with the light. This was one of them. Shot it in the day with a clear blue sky which was nice but anyone can see it like that. Returned in the afternoon but it was cloudy and not much happened. Came back at night with a clear sky and the moon rising but could barely open the car door with the strong winds.

Gave it one last shot the next morning and it looked like this.

a lot of these recent shots are fantastic but man I myself have strayed away from having that BULGING watermark on a really nice photo (unless its for something professional then so be it) but anything casual my own thing in my eyes it just gets in way of enjoying a really nice shot. Anyone shoot the solar eclipse? Didnt myself due to the lack of time management didnt buy a filter lol

Pretty crazy how you have to spend almost 1,000 on the grip/charger etc…unless you already have a d5 that is.

I just bought another Nikon d750 from B&H.

Next year I might grab the D810. It will drop 100.00 or so in price by then

Good point and Nikon forces you to buy a charger with two bays. If I remember correctly it can't charge two batteries simultaneously, the second starts after the first is done, so it's really just there to rip you off.

When the D800E came out I pre-ordered right away and it showed up after 3 months but the problem was the grip was sold out everywhere and I don't think any third party stuff was available either. I'd already ordered an L-bracket for it and wanted to use the new camera on a trip so I ended up paying $600 for an MB-D12 grip on ebay plus some ridiculous amount for shipping. One of my most painful purchases.

Smart move. It's easy to get caught up in the latest and greatest but the reality is the D810 is already capable enough.

That being said, if you've got the budget there's nothing that touches it in terms of covering both high res and action in the one body.

I rarely shoot any single shot landscapes these days, it's always panos with a multi-row system that works extremely well so I have zero interest in a few more megapixels. What is definitely tempting is the 153pt D5 AF + 7-9fps for anything that moves.

Ouch on the 600.00 purchase. I hate how companies do this type of stuff, but I understand its business. It just puts a bad taste in my mouth. Its more greed than business.

yeah, the D5 would be amazing that's for sure! Do you see yourself getting a D5 eventually ?

Ultimate would be a D5 body with the D850 sensor (e.g. D5x) although there's no market for it. Grips are bulky and never feel as good as a pro body with it integrated.

D850 with the D5 AF is definitely something I want but not an "I need it now" kind of priority. I'm happy to wait 6-9 months not to mention you avoid paying to be a beta tester. D800E is still working well for landscapes especially with the pano gear I mentioned.

D850 means new L-bracket, new grip, and new XQD cards and paying top dollar for all of it.

I'm a big believer in getting more out of the gear you already have.

Hi guys,

Good to see some familiar names still shooting in this thread. Love the work. I've just been doing some street stuff lately, had a lot going on in life. Been using Fuji x-t1 a lot, sony rx100 mark 1 a bit and my iphone 6s.

Wondering if anyone knows of a program that will stack/merge a lot of photos together into one image. Not talking about stitching/panorama, but stacking/merging/combining on top of each other to create a merge of all the photos into one.

Looking to do upwards of 200,000 pics, probably jpeg/tiff format, but my first test is 25,000 pics.

Basically I'm exporting videos into image sequences (their individual frames) then looking to combine all those pics into one image. EG: a video is 13min 37sec @ 30fps = 24,510 individual frames.

Tried lightroom which failed.

Does such a program exist that automates this process?

Kai quit his job with Digital Rev and owned basically no camera equipment. The review process at Digital Rev involved using a camera/lens for an afternoon. He's entertaining, but let's be honest. He's a gear shill.

It'll be interesting to see if the dynamic range is better than the D810. For the price of a D850 w/ grip, it would be possible to pick up a used D500 & D800/800e/810.

I couldn't find out where the D850 is going to be manufactured. Nikon's manufacturing in Thailand hasn't been the poster-child of quality. I would not want to be a beta tester for anything manufactured in Thailand.

RegiStax in Windows. http://www.astronomie.be/registax/

Various Linux programs might be able to do what you want. Darktable and Enfuse come to mind first. GIMP and RawTherapee might have the option to stack. I haven't attempted to stack or focus stack in Linux. GIMP is also available in Windows/Mac.

My guess is that Astro Photographers are going to be the most likely to know of a solution you want to do. Try tracking down an active forum and see if anyone has a good idea.

Assuming there are no QC issues then you should get at least 5 years out of it without feeling the need to upgrade. Should be some great deals on the D810 over the next 6 months with a lot cashed up of pixel peeping cat photographers dumping a perfectly good camera to have the latest and greatest.

It's pretty much spot on with what I expected a year ago. I thought they'd use the 42mp a7R II sensor but other than that no real surprises. Glad they did it. Actually 9fps with a grip is a bit of a surprise. I thought it'd max out at 8 to keep some distance from the D5.

Was looking at 5DmkIV specs: 30.4mp / 7fps / 61 point/41 cross-type AF / etc.

Nikon drops a 42mp D850/D900 with 6- 7fps + the D5's 153-point /99 cross-type AF and it's game over.

Canon by tradition has always been a conservative company resistant to change – there's good and bad to that – but these modern times has had a great impact of the camera industry. With the proliferation of video there's been a paradigm shift. Video is no longer an added DSLR feature, but consumers now expect their cameras to do both well.

In addition, it's no longer just a matter of Nikon vs Canon but both of these verses a lot of new players entering the game, not the least of which is electronics giant Sony. A company that has the resources and capacity to overshadow both of these.

The results being they had better change there tactics and learn to adapt and change more quickly (Nikon is better at this) or follow in the footsteps of the now defunct Kodak and be left by the wayside.

I doubt Nikon registers on Canon's radar. D800 was a big deal back in 2012 and the answer to it showed up 3 years later. Canon is an electronics giant. Nikon is a minnow by comparison.

Right now I can't see Canon matching the D850 because it doesn't fit into the strategy of separate 5D and 5DSR models.

Bottom line is if you've invested heavily in a system it doesn't make financial sense to jump ship chasing slightly better specs.

Lack of video features is going to cause people to switch. Zebra striping, focus peaking, and focus magnification are features that should be on every camera. Hybrid shooting has more ways to make money than only shooting stills.

Ridiculous specs, basically the perfect camera right now. If I wasn't incredibly invested in Canon I would have this on preorder.

Although if the rumored Canon 85 1.4L IS turns out to be true, that'll be a day 1 purchase for me.

Good news is it was just announced. Ships in November. $1600.

Long overdue. The 1.2 is a beautiful piece of glass but this is a step up for the kind of work you do. Faster AF, 4 stops of IS, and weather sealing.

I think im gonna have to warranty my tamron 24-70. Running into some slight AF issues…having a hard time focusing in areas far away and general softness is occuring. Thank the Lord for Tamron's excellent warranty status.

Im going to ireland tomorrow. Got so much cool stuff to shoot. Anyone ever been? any nice recomms.

Ayyy good timing!

I'll 100% be getting this, basically everything I could ever want from an 85. 4 stop IS at 1.4 is going to be a game changer for weddings. I think this is Canon's fastest lens with IS now?

I had an 85L loaner for a week earlier this year and while it can be stunning at 1.2, the ridiculously slow AF and really bad fringing wide opened turned me off it.

I went ahead and ordered the Tamron 24-70mm G2 lens for my new Nikon D750

I'm excited to get back into it. The next purchase will be a 70mm-200mm….I haven't decided if i should bite the bullet and spend the extra $600.00 on the Nikon or save the $600.00 and buy the Tamron G2 70-200mm. If I go with the Tamron I could take the money I'm saving and get a wide lens. I mainly will be taking pictures down town at night, buildings, landscapes, people, cars, objects etc..I also want to start doing night pictures of the sky/stars. Do you guys suggest a remote flash for those types of pictures? I want houses/buildings etc in the background, so I wasn't sure if a remote flash would be required or not.

Thoughts/opinions please

I don't do paid photography. I do it for fun to put the pictures online/and I want to start printing some for myself.

I've got a D750. It just came back from recall repairs. The D750 has had 3 waves of recalls. It doesn't make sense to buy a camera with clear quality control problems. If you're able to return the camera, it might make sense to do so. If you bought it grey market, I would absolutely return or sell it.

The Tamron G2 70-200mm is considered to be slightly better than the Nikon VRII 70-200mm. The Nikon FL ED VR 70-200mm is currently considered the best at the low low price of $2,800. Unless you're doing paid work, the G2 offers the best value.

If you're going to be doing street photography at night, you might want to pick up a 50mm 1.8. The 1-1/3 stops advantage over a 2.8 are going to be helpful. Plus they are small so you'll be drawing less attention to yourself.

What do you mean by wanting houses/buildings in the background? The larger the surface area you want to light up, the more lighting you're going to need. In general, on camera flash is never going to produce results that are as good of moving the flash off camera.

Lol after the "the eclipse blinded me" threads here. What could go wrong putting a massive magnifying glass over a camera's internals? Here is all the camera damage *******s did to rented camera gear taking pictures of it: https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/201...lipse-of-2017/
