He was gonna be 4 million cap hit for the Ravens. A position the Niners need and they can surely afford.

The 49ers signed 11 new players in the first two days of free agency yet still have a league-best $81.1 million in salary-cap space, according to the NFL players union.

I'd be ok with Godwin, there are a few pretty good WRs who can be had in the 2nd and later. I'm really digging Zay though. Kid seems super humble, has NFL bloodlines and showed up big in the senior bowl to prove he can play with the big boys then shined at the combine as well.
The comparison isn't super fair in terms of numbers either. Zay was easily ECUs biggest weapon and they kept feeding him like crazy. Harder to get higher YPC numbers that way. I noticed you didn't compare their yards though
Combine results are pretty close too, Zay just seems smoother to me but I won't be mad at either.

Post combine the QB draft stock usually rises to unbearable levels due but this years class seem to raise more and more questions.
Just watched some of Mr Biscuits Gruden camp, and he was learning how to execute a snap count. I know he's played 13 games so his experience is minimal, but to not know how to even action a hard count magnifies just why we should avoid at all costs.

Total bummer about Dwight Clark having ALS
Brutal disease and sucks to see anyone get it. Clark is pretty much one of the iconic 49ers and responsible for bringing in the dynasty era of this team.

To me if we don't trade down it's Solomon Thomas. I see a lot of people questioning where he'll play and whether or not he fits a big need and I think it's crazy talk.
This dude has all pro potential and hardly any red flags outside of not being the same beast mode when double teamed(who is?)
No off the field concerns.
Strong, athletic, passionate about the sport, gives max effort, great leader, great teammate.
Good mix of pass rush moves but a stud playing the run.
We shouldn't overthink this. If Garrett is gone Thomas should be our guy. I hope Armstead turns into a stud but I don't trust him and his tape is limited so far, can't just assume he'll develop into a great player.

Seems like more and more mock drafts and NFL media guys are predicting Thomas at #2. High character guy, dominant bowl game and strong combine, it's a predictable pick but it makes sense.
Anyone else finding it weird that Lynch is working out Watson and meeting with Kizer over dinner, and Shanny is staying at HQ watching tape? Not saying it's a bad formula, just there's value in meeting a prospect that might be your QB for the next decade.

I saw a clear improvement from his play as a pass rusher this past season from his first year starting and then saw someone post an article about how he went out on his own and found a boxing trainer that other NFL guys worked with to improve his hand speed/strength. I love that in a player. that's what the great ones do…never satisfied with what they have and always look to get an edge.
I don't give a fuk about his tweener status. This kid will be a stud, honestly only thing that can hold him back is injury which is the case with any prospect. There are no legit red flags with this kid. I'm sure our coaches will find ways to play him and he'll make plays wherever he plays. I hope Armstead turns into a stud but I'm not counting on it and not drafting DL just to not draft DL 3 years in a row in the first would be a giant mistake.
Thomas has a really high floor and potential to be a defensive MVP type of player. No off the field issues and a great locker room guy to bring in if we want to "change the culture"
As for the QB thing…i think it screams that we're looking at next year to address the position unless we luck into a Dak Prescott like situation. I'm sure Kyle is ok with John and the other guys getting to know them as people. Kyle cares more about them as football players, watching tape to see what they can do.
John can figure out if the guys have it, he's been there himself.

Just thinking about how deep this draft class is on corners and safeties and then started to think how Baalke loved drafting them. I'd bet we'd end up with 5 defensive backs this draft if he was still the GM. Thank goodness that's over. That was one of the last straws for me last year when he drafted two corners, 1 injured, with our first 4 picks when the team had so many areas of need that needed to be addressed.
Draft time is one of my favorite times of year.

Who you guys hoping for at this point?
I'm still firmly riding the Solomon Thomas at #2 hype train. To me he offers the highest floor and ceiling and has barely any negatives outside of the stupid "tweener" tag.
If we can't get Thomas I'd like to trade down but just don't see that happening.
If it's not Thomas I think I'd go with Malik Hooker though I have serious concerns about the kid but given what else is available he'd be my top after Thomas with Lattimore right behind him.
Jamal Adams is a much safer choice but I just can't wrap my head around using #2 for an in the box safety. At least if we're going to bite Seattle's D blueprint a potential Earl Thomas or Richard Sherman makes sense.

Sounds like Brock has been arrested for domestic related issues. I haven't looked into yet so I do not know details.

God what's wrong with these guys? Can't keep your chit together and not smack a girl around?
Good thing for us is this draft is deep as fuk at corner. One of the reasons I'd rather avoid Lattimore at #2…he could be a stud but just too many unknowns with him and his injury history isn't great.

Apparently Carolina wants Fournette and are afraid of the Jags taking him at 4.
Since theres a handful of guys I'd be about equally happy taking at #2, I hope they trade back to #8 even if the return value is less than in recent years.

Solomon Thomas isn't a sexy pick for many because they don't know much about him or the fact that this would be the 3rd year in a row of going DL in the first round but DL is not WR and we're not the Lions. Thomas is a stud in the making and a rare athlete for his size…see his SPARQ score(better than any edge guy last year)

If we move down we better get something worth passing up on guys like that.

What do you guys think about these rumors about Hyde? I can't imagine the team getting rid of him. Given he has been injured every season so far. I can't blame him much for how bad the online has been. I hope they don't waste a draft pick on another RB this season. We have other places they need to fix first.

I don't think he's a great fit for Shany's system. I think adding him improves our team but not nearly enough given other needs or impact of his position on today's NFL. And honestly I think he's overhyped. I don't even think he's the best back on LSU last two years so that doesn't scream top 2 pick to me.

Turned the big 35 today…time for draft talk
Who are you guys hoping for with our first rounder? Seems like this year everyone is kind of torn.
I don't buy into the talk that Cleveland is drafting Trubisky at #1. They're going Garrett and there's no doubt about it which blows because he'd be perfect for us…so glad Kap ran that 2 point conversion in.
For me I have it in tiers of preference.
1. Solomon Thomas - I don't give a fuk about the tweener label. I think this kid will be a stud wherever we decide to play him. Should only get better in the NFL
2. Trade down - this year will be tough to trade down especially from #2, you don't want to just give the pick away for nothing but with so many teams looking to move down it's a buyers market. I'd love to move down just a few spots to pick up another 2nd but we'll see how it goes.
3 Malik Hooker - I think he's not as safe a pick as Thomas but there's no denying this kid's ability to make plays in the passing game. If he can stay healthy and get his run defense and tackling in order he can definitely be one of the great safeties in the game today.
Pretty big drop off from the scenarios above
4. Trubisky/Watson/Mahomes - I don't know if any of them are worth that pick but if we draft one I trust Shanahan's QB evaluation abilities. I was a huge fan of Kizer early in the year but he clearly needs more time so I don't think he's worth a first round pick…at least not at #2. The other guys are more polished and could start sooner rather than later.
5. Marshon Lattimore - Dangerous pick imo. Hate seeing guys who are 1 year starters and his hamstring injuries are concerning but there's no denying the talent and potential. My biggest thing is the depth at CB in this class. I wouldn't hate the pick but it would make me nervous.
6. Jonathan Allen - shoulder injuries are a concern but he was a beast at Alabama. I think Thomas has more potential in the NFL due to his athletic ability and it's hard to scout Alabama players because they're surrounded by elite talent all over the place but he was clearly their best player and could certainly do good things in the league if healthy.
7. Fournette - I think he's a great RB prospect…for someone else. I don't see the type of greatness in him that screams take this guy if he's available. We had the 4th rushing offense in the league last year and won 2 games. Even if we improve to #1 rushing offense it doesn't make us that much better. Shanahans have a proven track record of getting production out of late round picks and the position simply isn't as important as it used to be in today's NFL. He would be the one pick at 2 where i'd be kind of pissed. Yes he'd make us a better team but it would really make me question what ShanaLynch are doing and I don't want those thoughts because I think they've killed it up to this point.

HBD genus!
man, ive seen some mocks having us take mccaffrey at 2. Im a fan of his and with shanny as coach, im sure he'll know how to use CM. nevertheless.. crazy to think he can potentially go that high.
im becoming a bigger fan of hooker each day. Anything close to ed reed would be amazing. … guess they just have to do their homework on whether his passion for football is there.

For me its:
Trade down
Solomon Thomas
Malik Hooker
If we trade down a lot of people come to play. Heck just about everyone not named above lol. Honestly I can't think of anyone I don't want.

Hooker has grown on me as well. Dude can cover a lot of ground while the ball is in the air. My only knock is draft a safety at #2.
