Hi friends,

used to frequent this thread quite a bit but havent been shooting much past couple years or posting on this forum. Just got a new d500 and some lenses and want to get a housing for it soon. Probably just get the cheap aquatech on B & H for a 1k. I got a 27inch monitor and have been going through some old stuff that I will be posting and will try to get some new pics on the same level of where I left off asap.

BTW the monitor totally ups my edit game.

im thinking about shooting some action photos, specifically cyling. i love mtb and have gotten in road biking. theres def a niche in this sport because people love getting their photos taken. i think i could make some money if i was to shoot at races.

anyways, do you guys think i could shoot sellable photos with a dslr under $1000? what kinds of specs should i be looking for? cycling isn't a "fast twitch" sports so i dont think the camera doesnt need to be as fast like one shooting a football game.

looking ahead, would it be difficult to build a website to sell photos? i noticed that photographers will be a watermark so people wont use their photos without their permission. is this kind of stuff difficult?

thanks

You can start for $500ish…. Used d300 and 70-300vr made by Nikon. There's some truth to what you said about the AF being easier as everything is linear but things traveling directly towards or away can be taxing on the cameras af.

You can shoot sellable photos with your cell phone. Remember, it's not about the instrument as much as it's about the uniqueness of the photo. Bigger more expensive cameras may allow a wider selection of shots, but composition and creativity remains unique to the photographer. Always keep that in mind.

Yeah, it'll probably be really expensive. I'm just pumped I can get an A7RII + Zeiss 55mm for what the RII used to cost new.

Is it a hosting issue? You might not be able to hotlink the images.

The tags should look like:

My guess is it's a .htaccess issue on his server (hotlink protection).

Foques, easiest workaround is to just upload the images to a free service like imgur and embed them here.

If you don't want to do that every time you could edit the .htaccess file directly (or via the control panel software) and make an exception for bodybuilding.com e.g. Code: Code: RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^https://forum\.bodybuilding\.com/.*$ [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^https://forum\.bodybuilding\.com/.*$ [NC]

You were linking photos from your site not that long ago and it was working fine. Developers have allowed this site to become far too bloated so when something stops working it's like a needle in a haystack.

I would just upload them to a site like imgur. At least you know they'll embed properly.

I guesss you have to go into the store and see how much that store has them priced( call them if its a drive for you )

she called several and one had it at 900, 1000 and third had it at 830 so she picked up the 830

Checking in. Haven't been in these forums in years. I was wondering about you Dom from the last thread. Nice to see that this is more active than the filmmaker group. I don't do that much photography anymore since I took up filmmaking, but photography is still very important! I'll always appreciate it. I'm beginning to look at more paintings now too to help on my cinematography. Keep up the good work!

Here are my latest. I guess I try to have a more cinematic approach now:
Fae Eskig | Canon 60D | Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 by Mark Lester Arica , on Flickr

Canon 60D | Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 by Mark Lester Arica , on Flickr

Below is a screenshot from my IG page from my phone, of screengrabs from a video I did. Same lighting I would do for photography, except with an extra 23 frames. Unfortunately it was only taken by a cinema camera, not a stills one. If I wanted though, I could snag a 4k screenshot from the actual video. But this will do lol:

hey guys, joe schmoe here on my first post ITT. Requesting your celestial guidance and advice on my first non-phone camera purchase. I've been looking into these:

-Rebel T6 as they dip in price occasionally at local walmarts here - pretty prominent and popular dslr
-Nikon D3300 according to internet folks this is a superior entry level DSLR as the canon has outdated technology jumbo mumbo
-Sony a7 which a friend swears by it but lolnoped.jpg when I saw 1250$ price tag

Which is great for a non-professional all rounder? i'm not limited to just these, but I am on a 450 dollar budget as I will be purchasing lenses after the learning curve.

Thanks. The photo was taken in an abandoned dam in San Diego. The colors and everything else were done in post.

This was taken with my Canon 60D which I've stuck with since first getting into photography back in 2011. It's still operable 6 years later. It's pointless to sell now as the price has gone down for used. Nowadays you can buy a 60D for around $400. If you don't want to go used, consider refurbished? Hopefully the guys can chime in. I'd stick with Canon or Nikon with that budget. D3300 isn't bad. Sony isn't the best for color rendition until you start paying more (correct me if I'm wrong, definitely is true for their video mode).

So my sigma attempts have failed.
gone through 3 24mm 1.4 lenses - Sigma couldn't calibrate them, either (but wouldn't replace them for me).
Front focusing is an issue even with the dock (which I bought) AND fine tune.

welp. I guess, i'll be dropping that there $$ on the real glass after all
