I'm trying to remember why I bought it. I do recall it seeming shady af, but then it was shilled hard on here as having potential interest from Chinese govt and big institutions.

lmao, I don't feel too embarrassed tbh - I think it was reasonable at the time. My only lesson is to have a better exit strategy instead of necessarily holding onto smaller coins long term.

It's not going to be used as currency by the masses unless it's viewed differently by the IRS. Right now it's viewed as property and every transaction is taxed. If people are honest with themselves, they'll admit that alone will keep it from ever being worthwhile as a currency.

Yeah the tax situation in the US is a circus. Im waiting for January 1st to start cleaning out the dead chitcoins i have just cause i dont wanna deal with it this year.

That said, even with favorable tax rules i dont ever see it going mainstream as a day to day currency

Because most crypto noobs probably have ****ty security practices. But if you do things properly, it doesn't matter at all. There are loads of famous people, crypto influencers etc. who are known to have tons of money in crypto and the only example of a hack I can think of is Ian Balina who had his seed phrase in an unencrypted file on his cloud storage.

They can find out more details about you, and then hack your personal data (eg. cloud storage) and if you have anything like private keys or seed phrases stored there they can clean you out.

Or (far fetched) they could send you some malware with a keylogger that could give them your passwords to exchanges, and if you don't have 2FA enabled then they could hack you there if you keeps coins on it.

It's all pretty unlikely and if you aren't a total spacker with security you can be essentially impermeable to hacks even if you are flashing your cash from the rooftops. Nobody has managed to hack Satoshi, the Winklevosses, Chamath, Michael Saylor, Paul Tudor Jones or anyone like that and I doubt they ever will.

The only alt I'm significantly in right now is ETH. When the normies come in, I'll reevaluate, but for now I'm happy with just ETH. If there is an alt run I'll go with LINK and 0x, that's about it. It's going to take I while for normies to come back heavy into alts after so many got destroyed last time, and then you have the xrp news on top of that. Institutions won't touch anything beyond ETH imo.

I hate to be that guy, but I think this time it's different. Btc and Eth will dominate this run.

BTC and ETH dominated the last run as well for the most part. I think chainlink outperformed everything earlier this year, but it's been BTC and the main alts ( ETH, LTC ) killing it after defi summer.
