If we miss out on Chad Hansen it'll be the biggest mistake we've made since letting Harbaugh go.

Have to say I'm surprised that we've got 2 guys now out of 5 who have questions about off the field stuff. Hopefully it works out.

this. the CJ pick was the only real surprise, but at this point there must have been some things that Shanny loved about the kid.

So far I'm loving this draft. Got 2 studs in the 1st. 2 developmental guys IMO in CJ and Witherspoon. Love the Joe Williams pick.

and we're stocked up for next year too. 1, 2, 2, 3, 3. probably not done wheeling and dealing either.

We also signed a bunch of undrafted guys. And give ward his 5th year option.

It look like we addressed a lot of our problem areas. Now we see if any of them actually help.

Very excited to see how this draft class develops.

Funny thing is I think talent/potential wise the one guy who doesn't have the same excitement is the one pick I wasn't a huge fan off but hoping Shanahan finds a steal in CJ when it's all said and done.

The rest of the guys have crazy talent or potential. I am a bit concerned with some of the off the field stuff and commitment questions with a few guys.

Solomon Thomas is a perfect combo of everything which is why I wanted him bad.

Foster is a talented stud but I really worry about his ability to stay out of trouble. I hope his love of football and his family keeps him out of trouble until he's at least retires from football…hopefully with HOF like numbers and several SB wins with us.

I'm excited to see Williams in Kyle's offense but as sad as his story is this kid is obviously dealing with some chit. Can he keep it together? I hope so.

Can't wait til training camp to hear how these guys look.

Excited for the season but not expecting a big turnaround like we saw under Harbaugh. And I'm perfectly fine with that. Honestly as long as the players on the field show improvement and we're in all our games I'm ok walking away with a top 2 pick again and a part of me actually hopes that happens because we can address our QB need and not worry about the position for another 15+ years.

Feeling damn f**king good about next season. We are in good hands with Shanahan/Lynch, only question mark this draft is the QB. But as others have said Shanahan knows his ****.

awesome read: http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2017/05/01/s...ter-peter-king

takes you behind the scene for the draft.

- CJ was the only QB Shanny liked. Reminds him of Cousins.
- Shanny was high on joe williams, while Lynch didnt have him on the board at all. Talked with joe on the phone and changed his mind.
- They were crazy high on Foster
- just read.

Yeah great read, not only as a 49ers fan but football fan. Just further reinforces how sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

Part of me is scared just how much differently the draft would've been if Chicago drafted Thomas. Holy crap I'd be pissed if we grabbed Foster at 3 even after the great trade. At 31 however is another story all together.

I'm excited to see the competition this year in camp. I do pray that our rookie class ends up being a major reason for our turnaround and hopefully future SB winning teams.

Talent wise we have some excellent players. Thomas, Foster, Witherspoon, Kittle and Joe Williams all have potential to make serious contributions or become star players in this league. I hope the guys with questions about them stay on the right path and keep it together to have a long and excellent career with the 49ers.

Looking at our schedule and seeing the youth, change in scheme and time needed to really learn it I still don't see a lot of wins in our near future but as I mentioned before I'm very much ok with it.

Next years draft should have some excellent talent at the top. Honestly getting the #1 overall next season would be a blessing because a kid like Sam Darnold can help turn this franchise around with the help of the guys we drafted this year.

That's assuming the Cousins thing doesn't actually happen…of course if CJ Beathard wants to show us that Kyle Shanahan is a QB fuking wizard and turn into another Tom Brady that would be spectacular as well

Competition in camp should be awesome to follow. Sucks that Solomon won't be able to participate in some of the pre training camp stuff due to when Stanford graduates(what a stupid rule) hopefully the coaches can get him a playbook early at least or he is able to go workout with Buckner, Armstead and Michael Bennett in Hawaii.

Damn Bros., I can't wait til camp to see the competition play out.

I don't know if any position is safe. Only guys I see as locks are Staley and Buckner. Everything else is up for grabs as far as starters or depth.

QB - Hoyer is the starter and I think Barkley has a clear edge for #2 and Beathard and Nick Mullins will fight for #3. Beathard has a chance to win #2 but I think at the end of the day we go with 3 QBs and Mullins is a PS candidate.
RB - well that escalated quickly. Carlos you're on notice. Joe Williams, Bibbs and Matt Breida add some serious competition to the RB corps. Hightower, Mike Davis, Dujuan Harris…none of those guys are safe and have to show up.
WR - you guys know how much I liked Ellington but he's done. Just can't stay healthy. We basically have Garçon and then nobody else. I think Taylor makes a great slot WR, hopefully he can stay healthy despite his size. KD Cannon was a great UDFA and has a legit chance to make this roster. I think this will be one of the best battles in camp.
TE - Vance being shopped around means this is really wide open. I think it ends up being Vance, Kittle and Paulsen when it's all said and done but I think Kittle is the only lock.
OL - I do think the starting line is Staley, Bradley, Zuttah, Garnett and Brown but wouldn't shock me to see one of the young guys displace any of the guys not named Staley.

DL - This will be fun to watch. Not only in terms of battles but how we'll use our guys.
LB - Ton of unknowns here. What will Bowman look like post injury? Armstrong? Will Foster be ok with his shoulder? How will Smith look? Lots of young players here who can steal jobs.
CB - all up for grabs.
S - Ward and Reid have the inside track for the FS and SS starting jobs

Guys better come in shape and ready to ball out or they'll be looking for another job.

I thought about this today. Really exciting… I think Bowman is a lock so he should be on there. Like you said not sure how he will look…

Everytime I go online it appears that they signed other people. We added more oline recently as well. Going to be interesting to see if they can fix it. Not expecting a huge boost but with all the new depth we should be looking good.

Like you said we have a ton of people for every position now. I expect us to see a lot of players gone that have been on the team for a few years.

He still has a very tough road ahead of him to make the roster. They may want to see what he can do in camp. The other guys they obviously feel just aren't talented enough to even check out in camp.

Sucks we never got to see what Rogers could do but the knee injury wasn't fully resolved.

Nice little breakdown on Beathard.

Would sure be nice if he proved Shanahan to be a genius here.

Obviously it's impossible to tell now but in 3 years we could potentially be looking at all of these guys from this class being starters…

Thomas - obvious starter
Foster - if he's healthy and not being a knucklehead he's starting and at a high level
Witherspoon - needs to work on his tackling big time but the coverage ability is #1 corner type potential
Williams - talent is starter level, obviously the biggest question with him is off the field stuff and whether Hyde is re-signed or not
Beathard - biggest question mark from this whole group but we'll see if Shanahan can work some magic here
Kittle - could start as a rookie
Jones - could see him starting at NT and getting spot duty at 3T

Even Trent Taylor could start at slot WR.

A lot has to go right but we got some serious talent in this class, I can't wait to see if these guys are just bodies or legit players at this level.

Anyone read reports about Fosters surgery being bad? Looks like we got the shaft. He may need another surgery followed by a likely short career.

I don't know what to believe. Honestly if his shoulder is bad I'd rather he get it looked at now vs later. We don't need him this year but we'll need him full go moving forward as the team actually is talented enough to compete with the big boys(not happening this season)

However the Saints were planning on taking him at #32, they must've felt ok about his shoulder to pull the trigger. It's all about factoring risk vs who else is out there. He fell for a reason. It wasn't all his shoulder, he had the combine situations as well dragging him down.

I will say however I'm sure most of us have read the Peter King article about the draft(if you haven't you definitely should!) and how our team doctor said "what shoulder?"

That dude better be held accountable if the shoulder ends up being an issue. Though the way Foster hits…not sure how it wouldn't be an issue. I'm shocked he hasn't shattered it into a million pieces with how he tor****es people.

But value wise, especially if we had him graded as the #3 guy in the class, you can't beat taking him at #31 and hope for the best. Shoulder and off the field.

Agree on the doctor. When I read that I just cringed…like 'this is going to end badly'. Everyone has concerns on his shoulder, but this guy is so brazen he says 'what shoulder'.

To add- although it is subjective on the value had with the pick. The statements of lynch saying they would take him at 3 really makes me pessimistic at how this is going to go. He would have been a complete a$$hat to take him at 3…and by all accounts, it appears that was truly the case.

I've watched highlights of most of the guys we drafted.

I'm making my bold prediction now that the best out of this draft in 3 years is Joe Williams. His inside running style and break away speed/vision/footwork is eerily reminiscent of Marshall Faulk.

Hyde is injury prone and in a contract year. Wouldn't shock me at all if he's sharing carries equally with Williams this season.

That's why the draft is like 70% luck. If we took Foster at 3 we would have a totally different outlook on things.

Thankfully(and hopefully) it worked out.

Yeah, very disappointing. What's frustrating is there were two guys I really liked in that class at RB.

They're doing ok for themselves and their teams…David Johnson and Jay Ajayi. Was a big Tevin Coleman fan too but figured he'd go early. We really need Arik Armstead and Eli Harold to do something to salvage that draft.

None of those guys have stood out. Just terrible. When your best pick seems to be a 7th rounder you fuked up.

back to the doctor guy, do any of you guys know if he's a baalke guy as well? Or did john/kyle bring him in with them?

got me curious, since most of the dudes that handled all the "injured" players baalke drafted didn't pan out for us.

I believe the doc is not specifically a Baalke guy or Shanahan guy. From what I read they are Stanford docs who basically work with the team. Here's hoping they are right and Foster will be ok.

Also I'm really excited about the UDFA class and all the tryouts we have.

Not going to pretend I know the small school guys but the free safety prospect sounds very intriguing and I know a lot of folks were high on him.

Look forward to see if he can crack the 53. Other guys I think have a shot to make the active roster as UDFAs are

Matt Breida - RB
KD Cannon - WR
Erik Magnuson - OT
Jon Toth - C (not sure if he's actually signed by us or if we're waiting for him to get fully healthy before making it official but it was reported at one point he was coming here)

Very few starting jobs are safe this year.
