This statement has single sided perspective. Its ok to take. It really is. What is not ok is to take all the time. There is a thing called balance.
Every first Sunday of the month our family wakes up and we all cook something that we are good at. I make breakfast tacos, my wife bakes cupcakes, my kid makes popcorn. We pack up the car and drive to the inner city where the homeless stay and hand out food and water. We dont post pics on instagram (dont even have that stuff), we dont write the groceries off on our taxes, I do it for balanced reason. I do it to help those that could use a warm meal, I do it to let them know that there are people out there that do pause for a second to think about their well being, and I do it to show my kids its ok to GIVE and TAKE. You might want to look at that info and call me a braggert but if it helps a couple of people understand my positive perspective then its all good.

A lot of people dont like to TAKE. They are taught its weak. Its selfish. Or simply they dont want to owe anybody anything. Its truly ok to TAKE.

Agreed 100%. Sometimes the best lessons are when you engage with people who dont share your same views. I have a better understanding of the stance now. I appreciate the conversation and its a breath of fresh air to not have to deal with a bunch of people that tell you what you want to hear vs what they really feel.

I enjoy being bitter and twisted as the next guy, and when it comes to air travel I've seriously considered the pros and cons of jail time to be able to strangle my fellow passengers,

but I actually like the thing of getting everyone in on this, making a little person happy etc., it's not like the flight crew and other passengers aren't constantly fukking with you throughout the flight anyway so it's not a big new interruption. I'd certainly prefer this to a kid kicking and screaming.

It'd be sweeter if it wasn't trick or treating though, I never did it as a kid and I was brought up to see it as people begging.



The article does make a good point though that the dad has made all the other parents on the plane look like total chits in front of their kids, who don't get to do it.

One of my best friends and I disagree on a lot of things. We come from VERY different backgrounds. We also both speak our minds and we typically land in a place that makes us both more well rounded invidividuals.

I bring this up because the "iron sharpens iron" statement is one he uses a lot after some of our debates. Always thought it was a military thing but I couldnt agree more.

There is two lessons here.

1) child learns that their parents are good to them, so when they grow up they have better bonds.

2) even if you don't want to, you'll still do what they want because of your perceived societal pressure, not because they were "forcing you", which they were not.

Both important lessons. stay mad.

Heard about this story on the radio during the trip to work this morning. I'm sure the father meant well, but I'm in the "Allow her to experience missing out on Halloween to realise dissapointment is normal part of life". I also think the father is full of himself expecting everyone to jump on board because it's his three year old kid.

A good thread with some interesting points. At first I thought, "that's so sweet" and thought it was innocent enough, but then I thought more deeply and I can sort of agree on these lines-of-thinking. I mean how far do you take accommodating your child's every wish? At what point does it damage their psychological development and expectations. Or in this case, was it just an exceptional and a display of love for a child. I think you can have parents who constantly do this and expect everyone to be on board just so they feel better about themselves, and then those who occasionally go out of their ways to make a child happy but don't go overboard.

Maybe this case was just innocent and it's a heart-warming story but it does open up discussion on how some parents constantly do this to be a center of attention, and never set-up a child for a life where they can be rejected and not get everything they want.

I would glady do it to make some kids day but lol @ telling people to pass the treat back as if someones going to actually do that and then have an entire plane of people thinking they are basically hitler for not giving the kid candy. I can see where people might think he is a douche especially if he didnt give any other kids on flight some candy after making this big scene.

People who care will actually ask to see those pics, everyone else just "likes" and comments on those pics/videos because they want likes/comments in return the next time they post some bull**** personal ****.


Im usually a very cool person, and i would have totally given that girl a candy, but i can understand tht some people will just not want to be bothered by that ****. And cringed hard at the post of that dude who encourages his little kid to approach strangers and strike up conversation. I fukin absolutely hate it when im just enjoying some time with myself, or another person, and some random ******* kid comes fishing for attention while their stupid parents look at us, with a smile thinking "oh there goes Andy again haha".

It's mainly cause how can one be negative about a father wanting his 3yr old to have some fun on halloween? Especially if the father ain't forcing anyone to participate?

no one has to give a crap about anyone else's kids but that doesn't mean you gotta be so negative towards them.
