She didn't really respond negatively to any of it because she actually did like me in some capacity. I don't know if the friendzone thing is a defense mechanism or a lack of attraction or what.

The only point is this: don't state your intentions. Just go for what you want, ignore the verbal/text friendzone signs (within reason...), and she'll stop you or kick you to the curb if it becomes a big enough problem.
That happened to me with this girl

Date 1: drinks, dancing, madeout, hung out till 3am
Date 2: drinks, dancing, madeout, slept at her place, no sex though

Date 3 she got on that friendzone time, and shut out the kiss

Didn't want to go out again if it would be like Date 3



She wants her cake and she wants to eat it too. She talked about how her and her ex were friends for a year before they went out. How he always had a crush on her. And she talked about how she hooked up with this other dude who was a friend first. Point of of all this (I'm admittedly a bit tipsy from date earlier tonight), she tried to make me go to friendzone I said NO NO NO.
