If a natty who had been training for years and was near thier natty potential hopped on and quit working out, they would probably not gain even 7lbs lbm. That study fails to take in to account quite a few variables as well.

Somewhat agree
If I start to loose my abs I go into freakout cutting mode. But my ex made me deeply insecure about my body (pretty much only stayed with me if I was lean) and so my mindset is ****ed. Not exactly the 'balance' OP is talking about but yea.

From what I gather they’re both reasonably lean now where no one in their right mind could call them fat or “soft” and they’re both strong as fuk with an emphasis on powerlifting. While they’re chasing strength, they’re not fooling themselves by adding unnecessary amounts of fat just to move a couple extra pounds.
Whatever their supplementation happens to be is mostly irrelevant, they’d both still be nearly the same versions of themselves without it but to a slightly lower degree.
Our genetics may give us different upper limits on strength and size but they certainly don’t doom you to be fat all your life and incapable of maintaining a nice, reasonably aesthetic bf% while still being able to chase down some of those strength or size goals.

Still not sure I fully agree with the premise of this thread but I guess it depends on your definition of lean
To be certain, pure strength athletes would definitely not agree with you

To me.. lean is life. I just feel healthier and more focused when leaner. Plus my strength is just fine, not trying to compete in powerlifting any time soon.

I really despise the guys that use being natty as an excuse to be fking subpar.
The reality is the natural guy is probably not tracking his food to a T, half asses his workout, and parties it up while coping meanwhile the guy on tech (that didn’t use it as a shortcut) is training his ass off twice a day, tracking his progress diligently, and surrounds a large part of his life with the gym.
with that being said, im only 5 ft 8 170 so i don’t have room to talk compared to most of you fukers so inb4 someone discredits me via a quote and lists my stats

I train for hypertrophy.
Even with that I still get stronger.
It really depends on how lean we're talking.
My avi is stage lean.
Now I'm not that lean but i still have visible abs even though I am 20 pounds over that avi pic.
She approached with her hand extended,. I slowly stepped back. "No" she said. "I just want to shake your hand. You're amazingly gorgeous." As she walked by me she copped a biceps feel.

*Never been lean in life Crew*
Never cared to get absolutely shredded, but my abs are visible behind all the hair. I might leave humanity behind one day if I really want to get lean.

who gives a fuk, being really lean (12% or less BF) isn't even optimal performance for most sports. At a certain point performance just dips hard.
being lean doesn't mean you are fit, I've seen some fatass maw****as that can probably run laps around people on the misc. A lot of UFC/Boxing Heavyweights would probably do the same.
Not everybody cares for aesthetics, some people like to chase numbers which is cool. You don't have to be lean to be fit and healthy either.

I'm lean-ish, but the last time I was super lean I also didn't have a period and other health issues. As a woman it's just not worth it in the long run.
