You start to get diminishing returns on your rifle the bigger you go.

More cost, more recoil, accuracy loss from reduced familiarity, etc.

Guys buy 4 lbs 338 Lapuas or 300 RUMs and won't even sight them in without a sled.
Ya someone killed a bear with a .22 too. Doesn’t mean it’s smart. It’s not about playing whose dik is bigger using an less than ideal (putting it lightly) caliber and limited in range bc of it…223 is not a caliber to be shooting deer. Period. I know most of you are .223 blowhards…but you’re wrong here. Nothing you can say proves otherwise.

Who do you think had to track and drag every damn deer even after an absolute perfect placement heart/lung shot with a .243. Me. Absolute lowest cal I would go is .243 (first hand exp) and I don’t even know if I’d personally do that.

Nah man. Ammo ballistics have come a long way in the past 20 years.
With good ammo, .223 is a great deer hunting round.

Can anyone recommend me a good subsonic 300 blk round for hunting deer ? Most shots will be past 300 yards.

I’ve read a lot about how extremely versatile this round is and am interested in getting into it for hunting large game. Purchased a SIG SAUER (goat gun company) Rattler this morning.

Need a bolt rifle for hunting. Thinking Rem 700 BDL. Will shoot deer, elk, hogs, etc with it. Can't decide on caliber. Torn between getting just a .308 or something larger like a 35 whelen, 338 win mag, 300 win mag, etc…

Got bit by the gun bug again. Help.
See title.

Literally no one in this thread said it would be used with that type of round or distance. Not sure if criminally autistic

If it’s your only rifle for hunting…I’d go .308, 30-06. Plenty of caliber for those choices of game. Could even do black bear
