Gains, what glass did you shoot the oculus with?

Dominik, can you recommend a good way to tether D850 to an MBP without having to get another app (ultimately, would like images go straight to a card and folder on MBP)?

17-40 f/4L. I want to go back with a 14mm fisheye since 17mm isn’t wide enough to capture the entire thing inside.

Nice shot, I feel everyone always goes long-exposure anymore with water shots.

Not affordable by any means but I've probably shot 90% of my landscapes with a 24mm PC-E prime. After 10 years the shift knob has finally stopped locking into place so I've had to retire it for now and I'm using a 2.8 zoom in that range. Bought Japanese (JIS) screwdrivers to try and fix it myself but I swear Nikon put red Loctite on the threads because even with some heat they won't budge. Have a trip coming up and I'm bummed I won't be able to use it.

Anyway 24mm on FX is the sweet spot for me. With DX the equivalent is 16mm. It's a shame they refuse to offer one. A 16mm for DX is long overdue.

15mm equivalent: Rokinon 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS Lens for Nikon F Mount

Both under $400.
I've really enjoyed the 10-24mm ($800ish), most of the times it's set at 10. That 24mm looks nice, the one with the tilt lens? What's the reasoning behind that? Can't you just tilt the tripod head? Would rather have a 10-35mm so I can use 1 lens for the majority of my shots, the wide angle is great until the wife wants a quick photo with the kid, then they're left looking a bit distorted. Also should probably look at leaving the wide behind sometimes and either piece together shots for landscape images or get more creative. The downside with the wide angle is that I tend to get lazy with the shot.

The Tamron 150-600mm has been on my wishlist for a couple years, need to go after that one, but I see alot less wildlife these days than when I put that on the list.

Black and White shot of a rock wall in Yosemite.

I had a goal of a B&W redwoods shot, with some fog/light trails, but couldn't find any shot that worked really well as B&W, seemed like alot of our shots were mid-day in the trees, the one evening we drove through and shot pictures did give some nice color to the woods, but no light beams, maybe I should've threw some dust in the air or something. Anyone want to share some tips for B&W?

Anyone use a canon tilt shift lens? I understand it is manual focus, but does it somehow let you know in camera if the shot is in focus? I am currently shooting with a 5D Mark IV.

Foques I use Windows so I'm not the best person to ask but I'll do some research and get back to you.

Live view or focus confirmation in the viewfinder.

Wrote a boring post explaining shift and tilt but a video from a pro is going to explain it better so here you go.

The only complicated part is tilt which involves the "Scheimpflug principle" however even that with live view is a lot less complicated than it once was because you can pixel peep every corner of the frame to confirm everything is in focus. Tilt allows you to manipulate the plane of focus which has several benefits when used correctly.

What do you guys think about Nikon and Cannon coming out with mirror less cameras ?

FroKnowsPhoto made a video today saying its going to be a game changer…..

Do you see the value of the current cameras going down the tubes? What about the current lenses? I'm going to end up owning the Nikon 200-500, 24-70, 70-200, and the 105…when I gradually by all of those lenses are they going to be 'worthless' since the companies are leaning towards mirror less?

Odds are they would make the lenses able to mount to the Mirrorless cameras without any issue. They would be dumb to make all new mounts. Honestly, dont even worry about the lenses.

Yeah there's no way the new cameras won't work with existing lenses. If they can make adapters for Canon lenses to Sony mirrorless cameras, then everything should be fine. The development costs of a new lens lineup wouldn't at all make sense for them to move to mirrorless.

Foques could be time to bite the bullet and try Capture One.

Going the free route Nikon Snapbridge will transfer JPEG but not RAW. Lightroom tethering sounds like a PITA.

Might as well use what the pros use. Subscription is $25/month or $17/month x 12 and the tethering problem is solved.

Another black and white image, from about 8 years ago, point and shoot Nikon P500 I think it was.

A different hike, in October at 2am to catch the sunrise the next morning. It's to blurry to be a good picture, but captures the misery of the hike pretty well. Not sure if B&W is more fitting or not.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but I got some of the dopest pics from a selfie stick that come's with a remote. It includes a tripod as well. Went to the beach to try it out and had about 50 people ask who the photographer was. Kinda cool if you're looking for that type of thing. I think I paid 80 dollars for it.

Going to buy the 12-24 sigma art lens tomorrow. Rented it today for some real estate and really liked it. I have shot 6 houses so far, and used the Canon 11-24 the first few shoots.

Would love to get the Canon, but I cannot justify spending 1k more on a very similar lens.

Any of you guys looking to get the new Sigma 105 f/1.4 ART?

Sigma is calling it the "Bokeh Master" and from the few samples I've seen, it definitely looks like the name is fitting. I have absolutely loved my 85 ART on my A7RIII so maybe I'll give it a try.

The 200-500mm Nikon showed up today!
I can’t wait to get out and shoot with it. I’ll eventually pick up a Nikon d500 to pair with it.

https://imgur.com/gallery/sz8UUVS

The next lens I buy will be the Tamron 15-30mm unless someone has a better suggestions for a wide angle lens. Mainly I want to shoot inside houses, buildings, night sky photography etc…

I have owned a 35 ART lens by Sigma and loved it. I only got rid of it because the bottom of the barrel was loose and someone wanted to buy one. Sold it to him with fill disclosure of the issue. Other than that, it was a fantastic lens. Used that money towards the 100 macro due to the 100 macro having more of a versatility factor to it. Today I will be purchasing the 12-24 ART for my real estate work. Pretty excited!

The Nikon 10-24 he's talking about is a DX crop sensor lens so effectively 15-36mm on full frame. Nowhere near as wide as the 11-24 Canon or 12-24 Sigma.

Variable aperture is a PITA in manual mode but for landscapes and architecture where you've got plenty of time to compose and dial in the exposure it's not a deal breaker. For sport, wildlife, wedding photography, budget permitting I would only use fixed aperture zooms since I'm in manual mode most of the time and the exposure changing with focal length would be a form of torture.

For anything that's not moving I still think the pano option is superior to UWA most of the time and I'm surprised I don't see it used much in here. Less distortion and more detail. Software is so good these days you can even get away with a lot handheld.

Seeking tips and tricks on shooting wildlife

I have a Nikon D750 and I just got the Nikon 200-500mm lens.

I'm going out for the first time tomorrow morning with it.

I'm going to a local park. There's usually deer, ducks, and geese. Sometimes cranes.

Can you guys give me advice on shooting those animals?

ISO I should be fine at around 100 since it will be clear skies and sunny out. If its just one animal I will shoot at f5.6. If there's more than one next to each other I'll go f8/f10. Just not exactly sure what shutter speed I should use, or what focus settings I should use.

I believe double the focal length for shutter speed usually, right ?

What about a bird in flight ? Shutter speed should be 1/1000 or faster, correct? I want to freeze their wings. What about the focus settings as far as birds in flight?

sorry for so many questions, still learning. I have a guy that's going to sit down with me in a few weeks to help me learn manual mode as much as possible. I don't want to shoot in auto.
